Read Across America Day, also known as Dr Seuss Day, is ayearly observance in the USA inaugurated by the NEA(National Education Association). It is held on the business daythat is nearest to March 2nd, Dr Seuss birthday. NEA held thefirst Read Across America Day on March 2, 1998 to encouragechildren in reading more books and also getting them excitedabout reading. Since then, it has been held annually.
Freedom of Information (FOI) Day is an annual event on or near March 16, the birthday of James Madison, who is widely regarded as theFather of the Constitution and the foremost advocate for openness in government.Each year, the James Madison Award and the Eileen Cooke State & Local Madison Award are presented by ALA on Freedom ofInformation Day to recognize those individuals or groups that have championed, protected, and promoted public access to governmentinformation and the public’s right to know.
