Bob Graham is Head of Airports at EUROCONTROL. His task is to integrate airports into the European ATM Network and support local airport operational improvements.

He previously served as Head of Concept Strategy and Development in SESAR and gave support to the European Commission in developing the first European Single Sky legislation package as well as the initial Single European Sky ATM Research Programme, SESAR.

Bob joined EUROCONTROL in 1990, bringing his experience in both airports and en-route air traffic control. He ran airspace design, decision support and human factors projects, managed EUROCONTROL’s research and validation platforms and conducted mid-term research.

E a m o n n B r e n n a n D ire c to r G e n e ra l, E U R O C O N T R O L

Eamonn Brennan became Director General of EUROCONTROL on 1 January 2018.

Prior to joining EUROCONTROL, Eamonn Brennan was the Chief Executive of the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) where he was responsible for the provision of air traffic management services in Irish controlled airspace, aeronautical communications on the North Atlantic, and Air Traffic Control at the major Irish Airports, as well as the safety and security regulation of the Irish civil aviation industry. He has worked as a management and training consultant in London, Kuala Lumpur and South East Asia working on projects for the private sector, World Tourism Organisation and the European Commission, amongst others.

Eamonn Brennan has held many leading roles in the Air Traffic Management industry during his career. He has over 35 years’ experience working across three continents, in over 25 countries, in both the public and private sector. He has played a central role in the development of aviation policy both in Ireland and abroad and has keenly supported the implementation of the Single European Sky programme, working closely with the EU, EC, EASA, EUROCONTROL and SESAR.

Olivier Jankovec became Director General of the European Region of the Airports Council International (ACI EUROPE) in September 2006. He first joined ACI EUROPE in March 2006 as Director of Strategy & Communications.

He has more than 25 years of governmental and lobbying experience, having worked for Alitalia (2002-2006), Air France (2000-2002) and the Air Transport Directorate of the European Commission (1994-2000).

Immediately prior to joining ACI EUROPE, Olivier was the Director of Institutional Relations for Alitalia where he was in charge of governmental affairs at national, European and International levels. During this time, he was also Chair of the Association of European Airlines Policy Committee. In 2006 and 2007, he participated in the EU’s High-Level Group on the future of aviation regulation in Europe.

Henrik Hololei has been Director General for Mobility and Transport in the European Commission since October 2015. He moved to the European Commission in 2004 as Head of Cabinet under Vice President Siim Kallas until 2013, when he became Deputy Secretary General.

Before joining the Commission, Henrik held various positions in the Estonian Government between 1995 and 2004. He was mainly responsible for coordinating the preparatory work for Estonia’s accession to the European Union. In 2001-2002, he served as Estonia’s Minister of Economy.

Henrik Hololei is an economist by training and holds degrees from Tallinn Technical University and Aarhus University in Denmark.

Grazia Vittadini has been Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Airbus and a member of the Airbus Executive Committee since 1 May 2018. She also serves as Director of the Airbus Foundation Board and is a member of the Inclusion and Diversity Steering Committee.

Previously, Grazia Vittadini was Executive Vice President Head of Engineering and a member of the Executive Committee of Airbus Defence and Space. Prior to this, she was Senior Vice President Head of Corporate Audit & Forensic, responsible for the Airbus Group’s audit activities worldwide. Before that, Grazia was Vice President Head of Airframe Design and Technical Authority for all Airbus aircraft.

Always leading transnational teams in multiple locations, she also served as Chief Engineer on the Wing High Lift Devices of the A380 in Bremen from First Flight to In-Service (2005-2009) and then contributed to securing the First Flight and Type Certification of the A350 XWB aircraft as Head of Major Structural Tests in Hamburg. Major Tests for the A320 Extended Service Goal, A380 and A400M were also in her scope.

Grazia began her professional career on the Italian side of the Eurofighter Consortium, before joining Airbus Operations in Germany in 2002.

Grazia graduated in Aeronautical Engineering and she specialised in Aerodynamics at the Politecnico di Milano.

Michael O’Leary has served as Ryanair CEO since 1993. Born in a stable in 1961, he was a boy genius, who excelled both academically and at sports. Having represented Ireland internationally at bog snorkelling and flower arranging, he graduated from Trinity College in Dublin as soon as they could get rid of him. He then became another boring KPMG accountant until divine inspiration sentenced him to a life of penal servitude in the airline business.

Marc began his career in 1985 as a research engineer at the Directorate of the Canadian Civil Aviation in Ottawa. He then joined the French Civil Aviation Authority in 1987, where he successively held various positions.

Between 1996 and 1998, he worked for SOFREAVIA as a consultant on economic and financial affairs. In 1998, he joined DGAC as Director of Operations in the Civil Aviation South Division in Toulouse. In 2003, he was in charge of civil aviation in the Provence region, and served as Director of the main airport of Marseille Provence. In 2006, he headed the new South-Southeast Air Navigation Service in Marseille. In December 2006, he was appointed Head of SEFA (Aeronautical Training Operations Department). He became the Director of the National Civil Aviation School (ENAC) in November 2008. From November 2008 to January 2011, he combined both positions at ENAC and SEFA. In September 2017, he joined Groupe ADP as Executive Director of Paris-Orly Airport.

He has engineering and civil aviation engineering degrees from ENAC. He also holds a post-graduate Executive Master’s degree in Business Administration from HEC.

J o s t L a m m e r sP re s id e n t A C I E U R O P E & P re s id e n t a n d C h ie f E x e c u t iv e O ffi c e r M u n ic h A irp o r t

Jost began his career with an automotive supplier in 1994. Two years later, he joined the German construction group HOCHTIEF AG, working primarily in investment and portfolio management. In 1998 he transferred to the airport management subsidiary HOCHTIEF AirPort GmbH, where he took on various roles at the airports in Düsseldorf and Athens, in which HOCHTIEF is a shareholder. In Athens he was involved in the commissioning and opening of the new airport. Jost took on the role of Managing Director of the ground handling subsidiary of Düsseldorf Airport in 2004. In 2008 he was appointed CEO of Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. In 2019 Jost Lammers was appointed President of Airports Council International (ACI) Europe. As from 1 January 2020 he is CEO of Munich Airport.

Jost has a degree in economics; he studied business administration and economic sciences in Bayreuth, Witten-Herdecke and San Diego. Before that, Jost had entered vocational training with a bank and performed his military service with the air force.

Birgit Otto has been Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of Royal Schiphol Group (RSG) since 2014.

Birgit’s career at RSG began in 2001 when she became Senior Manager Passenger Services. She subsequently became Director Asset Management/Design & Review in 2008, then Director Airport Operations in 2012.

Prior to joining RSG, Birgit held several commercial and general management positions at Royal Nedlloyd in the Netherlands and internationally from 1989-2001.

In addition to serving as COO of RSG, Birgit also chairs the Schiphol Security and Public Safety Steering Group and Joint Sector Safety Review Board. She is a Supervisory Board Member of Eindhoven Airport, as well as a Board Member at ACI EUROPE, Next Generation Infrastructures and Royal FloraHolland. She recently became a Supervisor at the Dutch Federation of Professional Soccer Organisations.

Birgit studied environmental sciences at Wageningen University (where she passed the propaedeutic examination) and business administration at the University of Groningen.

Hemant Mistry is the Director of Global Airport Infrastructure and Fuel within IATA’s Airport, Passenger, Cargo & Security Division. He works with governments, airports, fuel suppliers and other service providers to build opportunities for partnership, efficiency improvement, effective capacity development and digital transformation.

Before joining IATA, Hemant worked as a Senior Associate for Booz Allen Hamilton, a global management consultancy, where he led competition and regulatory assessments for the European Commission and performed safety audits for national aviation authorities. He also developed various business cases for airport and ANSP investments.

Hemant’s first employment was with UK National Air Traffic Services where he helped develop ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices for new aviation technologies and operational concepts. He was sponsored by the UK Civil Aviation Authority and is a graduate of the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology.

Iacopo Prissinotti has been Director of Network Management since July 2019.

Starting his career with the Italian military as a tower and approach controller, Iacopo joined ENAV, the Italian air navigation service provider, in 1988 as an air traffic controller. He then progressed through a series of managerial roles, heading Scenarios and Strategies, then International Activities, and finally leading the International Strategies division between 2011 and 2019.

Iacopo has a proven track record at bringing together institutions, organisations and stakeholders, and delivering large and complex system adaptations. During an important period of change, he has been tasked with driving the ambitious objectives of the EUROCONTROL Network Manager (NM), and will be steering its evolution to meet the new tasks conferred by the European Commission’s decision to reappoint EUROCONTROL as the NM for the period 2020-2029, and with a strengthened mandate.

As Director Aviation, James works with clients to understand and maximise the benefits and risks posed by unmanned aviation and the challenges in digitalising and optimising airspace.

James is a former Military Air Traffic Control Officer with over 20 years of experience in the Aviation industry. During his previous role as Head of UTM and Drone programs at NATS, James developed NATS strategy for UAS integration in UK airspace. James worked with the emerging UTM industry, including the successful delivery of Operation Zenith and the Airspace User Portal, the first stages of unmanned traffic management in the UK.

Prior to NATS James was the COO of an aviation company that delivered bespoke aviation services to governments worldwide. This meant the implementation of many aviation firsts and has since continued to work to advance specialist aviation from both a business case and regulatory change stand point whilst maintaining the professionalism, standards and high safety record that the industry has fostered.

Asher Abish began working at ELTA in 1985 following one year as an Electronic teacher and military service.

He has held several key engineering and management positions throughout his years in ELTA, including Chief Eng. for multi-mode airborne radar and later a Dep. Director airborne radar department.

Asher Abish led numerous business development initiatives for the ELTA systems airborne radar in international markets. In December 2016, he was appointed Regional Director of Marketing and Sales of ELTA Systems Ltd. in charge of several parts of the world.

Asher Abish graduated in 1980 from the Jerusalem Technical College in Givat Ram as Electronic Engineer.

Ian Rodley joined OpenWorks Engineering in Spring 2019 after serving for 26 years in the Royal Air Force as a Communications and Electronics Engineering Manager.

Ian served all over the UK and overseas during his time in the RAF including a number of appointments where he was responsible for analysis of Command & Control and Air Defence systems. His responsibilities at OpenWorks Engineering include working with systems integrators to incorporate the SkyWall range into their product offerings, support to the development of SkyWall Auto and general sales.

Jonas has an MBA from Lund University.

Andrew Charlton is the Managing Director of Aviation Advocacy, an independent strategic government affairs and publishing company based in Switzerland. Aviation Advocacy’s clients include major industry suppliers, airlines, ANSPs, regulators, service providers and airports.

Andrew regularly writes about and comments on aviation. Aviation Advocacy’s Aviation Intelligence Reporter (subscription only) is an increasingly influential monthly critique of developments. Its subscribers include senior regulators; airline, ANSP and airport senior executives; and several trade associations.

Andrew has wide-ranging experience in the legal, commercial and aero-political aspects of the aviation industry. He has been involved in some of the major developments in the industry. Previously, Andrew was the Chief Legal Officer of Qantas Airways before being responsible for Government Affairs for IATA and then SITA. Andrew was the Executive Director of the Drone Alliance Europe. He is the Executive Director of the ATM Policy Institute. Andrew is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Dalton Philips is the Group Chief Executive with Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) PLC since October 2017 and is a member of the Board of ACI EUROPE.

His career began with Jardine Matheson, with roles in New Zealand, Australia and Spain. He then spent seven years with Walmart in Brazil and Germany.

In 2005 Dalton joined the Weston family, as CEO of luxury goods retailer Brown Thomas Group (Ireland), and in 2007 as COO for Loblaw Companies Ltd, a leading Canadian grocery retailer.

Between 2010 and 2015, Dalton was CEO of WM Morrison PLC, the UK’s 4th largest supermarket chain. The company has over 600 stores, employs approximately 120,000 people and serves 12.5 million customers every week.

Dalton has a BA from University College Dublin, an MBA from Harvard Business School and an honorary Doctorate of Management from Bradford University. Dalton also holds a private pilot’s licence.

Fiona Carleton is the Director of Expansion and Future Operations at Heathrow.

She is currently developing the Future Business Strategic Direction to consolidate Heathrow’s leading global hub status by creating a narrative and organisational Strategy for Heathrow.

Fiona leads on Airspace Change, Occupancy, Capacity & Resilience Strategies, Masterplanning and Operational Readiness. She has also developed Heathrow’s Passenger Insight, and led the Operations Team.

Ismail Polat is the Chief Planning Officer of IGA, the operator of the new Istanbul Airport.

He has over 20 years of planning, design, construction, ORAT and operation experience in the aviation sector.

His experience in aviation started as Project Engineer in Boston Logan International Airport Terminal A & E projects with Skanska USA. Upon his return to Turkey in 2008, he continued working in aviation, participating in several international projects in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Central Asia for public, private and military clients.

Currently at IGA, his team provides technical and engineering studies to the entire airport organisation. The aim is to ensure the operational integrity of the airport master plan and flexibility for future development in terms of airspace and airside infrastructure, CNS/ATM development and integration, aviation safety & security, operational effectiveness, level of service, constructability, infrastructure capacity, logistics and connectivity.

Andrew joined T&E in June 2014 having previously worked for the Green European Foundation and interning at the European Commission’s transport directorate.

Andrew manages T&E’s work on sustainable aviation, including State aid and VAT taxation, as part of the aviation and shipping team.

Andrew has a bachelor of arts degree in Political Science and Law and a bachelor of law from the National University of Ireland, Galway.

Aireon’s space-based ADS-B surveillance system can provide ATS surveillance-grade positioning data in ATFM and A-CDM systems in real time to enhance arrival time predictions and turnaround operations.

On 4 December 2019, a SESAR AAL2 EFVS – Enhanced Flight Vision – demo flight was run by Dassault-Aviation at Antwerp airport (EBAW) in a full OPS environment, in low visibility conditions and with a qualified crew. It was based on AAL2 studies run by the ANSP, skeyes.

This was the first time that aerodrome experimental approval for EFVS was granted by a National Aviation Authority, Belgium’s BCAA/BSA, setting an example for other secondary aerodromes.

RECAT-EU optimises wake turbulence separation minima for arrivals and departures; it has been approved by EASA and is ready for deployment at several European airports.PAIR-WISE SEPARATIONS (PWS) are based on the lead and follower aircraft type, as opposed to wake categories. Combined with the Optimised Runway Delivery tool, throughput efficiency can be increased by 10%.ENHANCED ARRIVAL PROCEDURES (EAP) consist of several SESAR solutions that can be applied alone or in combination to increase arrival runway throughput by 5% and potentially reduce occupancy times. EAP include Dual Threshold Approaches, Increased Glide Scope (IGS) and Adaptive IGS.RUNWAY OCCUPANCY CATEGORISATION (ROCAT) defines traffic sub-categories and spacing based on runway occupancy time, wake minima and reduced radar separation. ROCAT can increase runway throughput by 10% during peak traffic periods and offers more operational flexibility.

Innov’ATM has algorithms to optimise airside and landside airport resources by allowing all the stakeholders to have the right information and decisions in advance, not just the right time, so that they can manage potential disruption and delay in the most efficient way.

Innov’ATM uses AI algorithms to track and then predict delay evolution, allowing airports to anticipate and manage disruption. In the past, we looked at optimising flight movements but research shows that passenger movements at an airport will be the biggest blocker in the future.

A SESAR concept takes passenger processes door-to-door as an input into airport collaborative decision-making but Innov’ATM allows airports and airlines to feed the ANSP with passenger information – and lets them receive data on flight movements in return, which they then use to better manage passenger processes.

Information at airports tends to be collected and presented independently, making it difficult to see the overall picture, and to work out how all the elements interact. It can also be hard to generate a historical view to review how the airport previously handled disruption.

With DiGital Twin, what used to be siloed information is now presented in one place. It helps improve decision-making by giving a holistic view of airport operations. It is also an effective way of investigating past handling of disruption so as to identify what can be done better next time.
