December 2018, Issue #151 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Greetings OAA Artists, Our Potluck-Art-Party was a lot of fun, thanks so much to those who made an effort to join us! We really appreciate that Carol Brodkin-Sang presented for us on colour experimentation. Hopefully we can do another workshop together soon. Let us know if you'd like to lead an upcoming workshop or let us know if you know any interesting artists who'd like to come give a talk or a demo for us. Our November hanging at the OLT went well, it's always quite a process to get the art down and up in the few hours that we have on a Saturday morning. We thank those who help make it all go smoothly. Congratulations to those who sold their art last month, it's a good motivation to keep creating! There's always a few of our artists who forget to pick up their art on our hanging days. Just so you know, those who collect the art left behind (Carole or Francoise) will take the art home for a fee of five dollars per week for storage and transportation. It's up to the artist to collect their art or send someone to pick it up if you can't make it the day of the hanging. We have located another space in New Edinburgh to both have a Spring Award Show and use as a monthly space to hang our art. However, we will need volunteers who will be willing to sit for a few hours weekly in order to open the space to the public. Please contact us if you will be willing to give your time. We need people who are willing to put in an effort to make it work. We are also looking for someone handy to hang some chain rails in the room. We're getting a lot of positive feedback from the community about the art hanging at the Physio Clinic in the Glebe. Good job for making an effort to get your work out there. It brings people much joy - and hopefully it will lead to sales. I wish everyone a happy holiday season! See you in January at the next hanging or at our next presentation evening in February. Presentations- Speakers

Guest presenter Patricia Kenny

February 19th 7 – 9 pm Heron Road Community Centre 1480 Heron Rd, 3rd Floor, Ottawa Patricia Kenny is an Ottawa based multi-discipline artist. She graduated in 2017 from the Ottawa School of Art. She has been honoured with a number of awards and scholarships including Juror's Choice Award in 2018 during the Arteast Annual Juried Awards Exhibition. This year she exhibited her series of abstract paintings on the themes of resilience, vulnerability and rebirth in solo exhibitions at the Atrium Gallery in

Nepean and La Fab Gallery in Chelsea. She is a member of the artist run Foyer Gallery where she regularly exhibits her work in group exhibitions. Transformative experiences are universal to the human condition; interwoven in our lives as life-altering events. Imagery within the work is compelling, mysterious and often mystical or surrealistic. Direct and action-filled physicality in the process taps into the subconscious resulting in primordial, passionate and universal paintings. In this upcoming talk in February, Patricia will discuss about her inspiration and process, showing examples from a recent body of work exploring these themes. For more information about the artist please visit her website at Patricia Kenny Artist or you can email her at [email protected]
