FROM YOUR PASTOR

As we approach Thanksgiving this month, I share with you some familiar words of Scripture. Psalm 100 says:

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.

Worship the Lord with gladness;

Come before Him with joyful songs.

Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us; and we are His;

We are His people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise;

Give thanks to Him and praise His name.

For the Lord is good and His love endures forever;

His faithfulness continues through all generations.

We are all guilty of not giving God enough thanks. When we pray we usually have a long list of needs and wants that we present to God, yet we don’t take the time the thank Him for all the good things He has provided for us. Yet, this psalm is very clear that we need to offer our thanks and praise to God.

God gave His life for us, that we might be saved from our sins and receive eternal life. God provides for our needs and He takes care of us every day. Because God is so good to us, we must pause to show Him the appreciation He deserves.

We all have many things to be thankful for. It might be good health, a good job, loving family and friends, financial security, living in a free country, etc. We all have different things to be thankful for; the list is different for each of us. But the truth is every one of us has something to be thankful for. And whatever it is, we must remember tat it is a gift from God. He deserves our thanks and praise.

This month think about all the things you have to be thankful for. Spend some extra time in prayer just thanking God for what He has done for you. Read Psalm 100 ever and over again. Begin living with a grateful heart in response to God’s love and generosi-ty.

God bless and I’ll see you in church!

Matthew

Newsletter Notes

From around the Southern Province

Salem Congregation will sponsor a Habitat for Humanity house next spring. It will be con-structed in the Kimberly Park neighborhood in memory of Cedric Rodney, who served for many years as pastor of St. Philips and as chaplain at Winston-Salem State University. Cost of the Habi-tat house project will be about $65,000.

Olivet has purchased a new Allen organ for its sanctuary, which should make a lovely addition to worship services. The cost of the organ is $65,000, which is being paid by generous donations and good old-fashion fundraisings.

Mayodan’s Elders are considering starting a so-cial committee to get people in the church together to socialize or do various activities together. It would be for all ages to come together and get to know each other better.

MORAVIAN YOUNG ADULT CONVO 2015 THIS SUMMER!

JULY 5 – 13, 2015!

CZECH REPUBLIC AND GERMANY!

Every four years Moravian young adults in North America have the opportunity to come together for a Moravian Young Adult Convocation. The next Young Adult Convo is this summer as participants will travel to the Czech Republic and Germany to see many of the historic Moravian sites and to find inspiration and vision for current ministry. In the Czech Republic the trip includes visiting Prague (where John Hus preached), Kunwald (where the Unitas Fratrum, the early Moravian Church, first set-tled), and the Chalice Rocks (where members of the Unitas Fratrum met during their time of persecution). In Germany the trip includes visiting Herrnhut (where the Unitas Fratrum expe-rienced a great spiritual renewal).

All Moravian young adults ages 18 through 26 are invited to attend this summer’s Moravian Youth Adult Convo 2015. The dates for the trip are July 5–13, 2015. The theme for the trip is “Make the Moravian Journey Home and Catch a Vision for Our Future!”

For more information about Convo 2015, please check its web-site at http://convo2015.wordpress.com/ or its Facebook page at “Moravian Young Adult Convo 2015”. You can register online at http://www.planetreg.com/MoravianYoungAdultConvo2015. There is a limited number of spaces for this trip, and registra-tions need to be in by January 15, 2015. If you have questions, please contact Doug Rights, Director of Youth, College and Young Adult Ministries at [email protected] or call (336) 722-8126.

Proverbs 17:22, says, "A merry heart does good,

like medicine, but a broken spirit dries

the bones.” A wife invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said,

'Would you like to say the blessing?' 'I wouldn't know what to say,' the girl replied. 'Just say what you hear Mommy say,' the wife answered. The daughter bowed her head and said, 'Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to din-ner?'
