TRUSTEE PROJECTS 2015

1. Vinyl strip front of church – COMPLETED

2. Take down trees at parsonage – Most of trees have been tak-

en down, still some to cut

3. Tree clean-up – most of the cleanup has been completed.

Stumps need to be leveled and grass sown. Johnny Vanhoy

will contact Patrick Linville about the stump grinder.

4. Survey and cut part of tree that is on the land owned by

Tom’s Planthouse that is adjacent to the church’s property –

Arnold has tried to get in touch with Steve @ Tom’s. Did not

have his cell phone but has it now and will contact him to de-

termine which tree it is.

5. Winterize parsonage and inspect for upgrades or repairs –

No winterizing is needed due to keeping the heat on enough

to keep the pipes from freezing. Arnold will contact Eric

Renigar (who does home inspections) to inspect the parson-

age.

6. Light is out over the Men’s Bible Class door. Keith Miller will

replace the light bulb.

7. Light on the side of the church close to the mailbox is out.

Arnold will contact Duke Power at 800-769-3766.

8. Steeple lights are out. Steve Price will make arrangements to

have them replaced.

9. The light on the Oak Grove sign in the church yard is coming

on during the day. The timer needs to be changed due to re-

cent power outages.

10. A light in the Fellowship Hall is out.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER TO HELP WITH ANY OF THESE WORK PROJECTS, PLEASE CONTACT A BOARD

MEMBER OR THE OFFICE.

Newsletter Notes

From around the Southern Province

This Easter New Philadelphia aims to “return to a more structured and orderly Resurrection Service.” The ushers will channel all worshipers through the main entrance to God’s Acre. They will be in order. The band will enter first to play antiphonally, then the pastor will lead everyone else, first the choir, followed by the congregation. Orderly processions go way back at New Phila-delphia, no shuffling crowd, thank you. Emil de Schweinitz tells us what it was like for the Easter service he presided over in 1867: “A regular procession was formed at the church, headed by me, then followed several brethren and sisters who formed a choir of sing-ers, then came the sisters, two by two, and finally the brethren. We processed to the graveyard, singing resurrection hymns, in very good order, and after the Litany again walked back to the church, singing hymns.” All very neat and orderly, the New Philadelphia way.

Thoughtful note from one Board of Elders: “The Board is ask-ing that all committee meetings, fellowship gatherings, board meetings, circle meetings, and all other activities refrain from meeting from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.” But DO MEET at Holy Week readings.

In the “every little bit. . .” department: Last year Moravia members brought in enough used toner cartridges for the church to earn $500 in rewards to spend on office supplies. And $48,550 in coupons was collected for the U.S. Naval Air Station in Atsuga, Japan. “Every little bit. . . .”

With the warmth and glow of Christmas Eve lovefeast now long past, the call goes out in churches: Collect your used beeswax candles for melting and pouring into molds to make candles for next Christmas! Recycling? Moravians have been doing it for cen-turies.

Moravian Archives has started a new feature on its Face-book: “100 Years Ago in The Wachovia Moravian.” First up is Fries Memorial’s final service in its 38-year-old East Salem chapel on February 21, 1915, before moving into its brand-new brick church on East Third Street. You can read all about it on the Archives Facebook or by going directly to the March 1, 1915, issue of The Wachovia Moravian at http://moravianarchives.org/pdfs/1915-1-12.pdf.
