Dear All, This is the last week of term 2 and the end of a very busy and productive term. Ms Harris and Mr Glazebrook are both on leave and we hope having a wonderful time. Last week the Primary students went to Walla to see their annual musical production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’. The Walla students did a marvellous job and entertained the audience so well with this favourite classic. Dorothy had such a good voice that a few thought she was sing- ing to a tape and the lion stayed in character all the time and was a riot. Our students thoroughly enjoyed it and we have decided to follow this theme with the K12s next term. On the way home we called in at Morgan’s lookout and had fun clambering about and exploring. On Friday Woolworths came to Oaklands! Kylie and Kristy arrived with so many provisions. They popped up their tent and unpacked a pile of goodies including tub after tub of cut up fresh fruit. They donated a football, a netball, cones and tennis balls to the school as well as 8 cards of stickers which Isabelle proudly took up to Mrs Kerr. Then they busied themselves organising egg and spoon races, 3 legged races and handball footy targeting for all the Primary. They had prizes for the games and boy did the kids have fun. Then they lined everyone up and they got every child to make a fruit kebab. They cut bananas in half and made banana on sticks rolled in jelly crystals for everyone. We cannot thank Kylie and Cris- tie enough for all the effort they put in and for coming all the way to Oaklands to support our school. Thank you also to all the community and parents who are col- lecting the stickers for our school. It is very exciting for the students and a wonderful way to save for special resources for the school. This week has been busy with reports being finalised and programs and learning tasks being rounded off and completed. The term 2 Merit Assembly was a success and we thank the parents and friends who attended. The students get a thrill from an audience. Congratulations to all those stu- dents who won awards for sport – both the winners and participators. I am always so proud when I take our stu- dents to carnivals and watch the 100% participation. Our students have a wonderful attitude to and reputation for active participation. Congratulations also to the stu- dents receiving Merit Certificates for so many different fields of excellence. Congratulations to the students who showed a taste of the wonderful work they had done in class this term and congratulations to Year 3 who ran the Assembly so independently and competent- ly.

Dorothy had such a good voice that a few thought she was sing-ing to a tape and the lion stayed in character all the time and was a riot.

Thank you also to all the community and parents who are col-lecting the stickers for our school.

The Volunteer group from Secondary will be cooking lunch and organising some of the afternoon activities. Secondary will be go-ing to The Rock. They will be having climbing chal-lenges and lunch. This will wind up the term. Next term begins on July 16th with a Staff Development Day at Urana and Barel-lan – no pupils attend that day. Students return on Tuesday 17th July ready for a great term of learning. Reports will go out soon after we get back, followed by Parent/Teacher interviews. We look forward to seeing all parents at that time to discuss their children’s progress. The English and Math Competi-tions are in week 3 and 5. Students hoping to do well in these might like to revise a little prior to the big days. Have a happy holiday everyone and we will see you all bright and refreshed next term. Athletics Carnival On Friday the 1st of June 2012 we had an athletics car-nival at the Urana Oval with Oaklands and Urana stu-dents combined. All the children from kindergarten to Year 12 all tried hard in different events. The age groups were 5 to7, 8 to 10, 11 to 13 and secondary 12 to 14 and 15 to 18 boys and girls. At the end of the day we had the war crys and Innes won the war cry which sealed the win for Innes. Innes came first, Zanoni came second, Farrer came third and Macarther came fourth.

George Sandral and Logan Kerr Jane Carroll Jane Carroll is a professional author who came to Oak-lands Central School on Tuesday the 28th of May 2012. She came to teach us how to write a story. First she read a little book that she had written. Then she told us to close our eyes and imagine a box. She asked us to think about what colour it was, what shape it was and what was inside of it. After that she told us to write a description.

Victoria Dehn It’s Mad Mad World All of Primary, Secondary and Ms Outram, Mrs Gor-man, Ms Harris and Mr Robey went down to the Oak-lands Hall to watch ‘It’s a Mad World’ on Tuesday, 15th of May. We went because the teachers thought it was a great show for children our age. The actor bounded a chair on his chin over the top of Bethany and Xavier and juggled bowling balls and juggling balls. He had a tall wooden stick with a sharp point on the end. He bounced a glass plate on top of the pointy stick. He had nine pointy sticks and he did them all at once and he kept on screaming. He did lots of funny stuff. Bethany and Jake Richens really enjoyed the show be-cause they thought it was funny and really good. All the other children thought it was really good too and funny.

At the last P & C meeting on 18th June 2012, we added plain Navy dress shorts - length just above the knee, to the Secondary Girls Summer uniform (no white stripes or logos). These can be purchased at Brunella Schoolwear in Corowa. Uniforms are designed to be worn to repre-sent a school. When they are worn well they reflect the culture of the school and send a powerful message of students who are proud to be part of the organisation. Uniforms are not only worn at schools but in many businesses and government organi-sations. At Oaklands Central School, our uniform is a sign of our pride in our school. We en-courage parents to help their children to wear their uniform correctly. The Parent Information Handbook, which is available on our school website (in the Parents sec-tion) provides the guidelines for each stu-dent. We encourage parents to ensure uniforms are in good order; hems are at the right lev-el, small rips are mended, uniforms are ironed. We also need items of clothing named to allow our students to have mis-placed uniform returned.
