On behalf of Ben and I we would like to congratulate the Riverina and Farrer representative squads for their efforts on and off the field whilst in Newcastle. With both leagues travellirg together i1 was good to witness how good both squad got along with each other. I believe a lot of players got a better appreciation of what is actually involved to play representative football and how many friendships can be made from representing your league. Bob ··Gunny' Shields

In recognition of the great work tha1 the late Bob "Gunny" Hughes did for football and in particular in Southern NSW both games played for the Bob '"Gunny' Hughes Shields.

Juniors; Lasi weekend at the Griffith Ex-serviceman ground in Griffith the South west Juniors played the Northern Riverina Football League in Under 11 's, Under 13's and Under 15's age groups. T he South West Junior FL won all three games against the determined Northern Riverina FL. The South West and Wagga District Junior Football leagues will be playing each other on Saturday 18th June at the Narrandera Sportsground 1n the Under 13's, Under 14's end Under 15's. These games were a great success last year being played at Robertson Oval Wagga Wagga. These games again will be hotly contested and I encourage a ll football fo llowers to get along and watch some our g reat local junior talent.

RFL ROUND NINE IN FOCUS

NARRANDERA is the final team standing in the way of a clean sweep of the opening round of games for Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong. The Lions will host the Eagles at Ganmain Sportsground on Sunday in a game that could possibly throw up a surprise or two as the first round draws to a close. GGGM have opened its title defence in brilliant fashion. winning its first seven games by a neat average winning margin of 73 points. Wagga Tigers has provided the biggest test to GGGM. closing within two points midway through the final quarter before going down by 26 points. Narrandera gets its chance on Sunday and the fourth-placed Eagles may just possess a team that is capable of causing the all-conquering Lions a headache or two. Narrandera ruckman Lachlan Hunter has been the form player of the competition so far this season. Hunter pipped GGGM's Jacob Olsson for the starting ruck position in the RFL rep team and he

will be the key for the Eagles on Sunday. Olsson is likely to again miss for GGGM with GWS Giants commitments and this will pro•,ide Narrandera with a huge advantage through the middle of the ground. Part-time ruckmen David Karlberg and Jarrod Conway will be up against it in their bid to curb Hunter's influence, along with his more-than-capable ruck-forward partner Phil Aumann. The Eagles also possess a few more bigger bodies around the ball than most RFL teams and won't be cast aside as easily as some other clubs have been against GGGM. The likes of Jim Rice and Tim Mathieson will be in and under. while Pat Horsburgh and Zane Litchfield will be dangerous outside the packs. The Lions will look to utilise its speed advantage and will be placing their faith in in-form pair Curtis Steele and Daniel Hitchens. Steele and Hitchens have enjoyed a strong start to the year and their pace through the middle of the ground has added another dynamic to an al-

ready impressive Lions game. Then throw in Daniel Rankin. Mitch Carroll. Malt Rava, Luke Kohlhagen and Luke Walsh and it's not hard to see why the Lions are unbeaten. GGGM rarely get beaten at home but look for Narrandera to issue a serious challenge in the game of the round at Ganmain Sportsground.

GRIFFITH gets the chance to stay in the top five when it hosts an in-form Coolamon at Exies Oval on Saturday. The equation is simple for the Swans - win and finish the first round in the top five or lose and drop out. The wheels have hinted at falling off Griffith in recent weeks so coach Damien Scott will be after a much-improved performance from his team. Coolamon has won its last five games and is playing full of confidence on the back of strong contributions from all 21 players. This game will show us just how much the Swans

want to be apart of the 2011 finals action.

WAGGA Tigers will fancy its chances of regaining the upper hand over Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes on Saturday. MCUE has enjoyed their victories over Wagga Tigers in recent years and there is no doubt Tigers will be out to return the favour at Mangoplah Sportsground on Saturday. It is a must-win for Tigers and their finals chances, while MCUE will have some confidence after its last-start win over Turvey Park.

LEETON-Whitton should record a much-needed confidence boosting win when it travels to Maher Oval on Sunday. The Crows have been on the wrong side of too many close games in the opening half of the season and will relish the chance to score a big win over the struggling Bulldogs.

NARRANDERA EAGLES

The Eagles have a tough task today taking on the undefeated ladder leaders Ganmain Grong Grong Matong on their home ground. but will be confident after stringing three good wins together in the lead up If Narrandera can build on their form against the Swans. surely they would have to consider themselves half a chance of ending the Lions run of victories. It was a good win last round over Griffith with Narrandera putting together three solid quarters of football before taking their foot off the pedal In the final term. The seconds made 1t three wins In a row with a big victory over the Swans and will be looking to get themselves into the top five with a win over the Lions today. WAGGA TIGERS

Welcome back to all after the long weekend break. Firstly congratulations to Josh Gaynor, John Anstee & Brett Doswell on their selection in the RFL rep side & win over Sydney U/23's. Last round we had a good start to the day with the 17's outclassing the demons by 93 points in wet & slippery conditions. Awards went to Ted Lindon $30, Elliot Hull $20. Jim Carroll $10 and Will Morley collected the towel. The seconds had another convincing win dispatching the second placed demons by 10 goals. James Hodges knocking on the door for a recall to firsts got plenty of the ball to take the players mug & KOORINGAL HOTEL award, another trying to force his way into the top grade in Ted Fellows picked up the BRIDGESTONE award while Aaron Battenally collected the club towel. In first grade ii was not the result lhat the playing group or supporters wanted, being outclassed by all over the ground by the Demons to go down by 10 goals. John Simpson worked hard in defence all day to win the players mug, John Anstee was his usual reliable self to collect the KOORINGAL HOTEL award. Daniel Davey took the BRIDGESTONE award and Damien Papworth grabed the towel. This week we venture to Possum Park to take on Mango in what is usually close hard footy. The firsts will have a little bit of motivation in Josh Gaynors 150th game for the mighty Yellow & Black. Josh has given his all to the club & I'm sure we can repay him today. Tonight we have the Black & Gold Ball at the PCYC so let's grab the wins in the footy & netball and head back for a great night.

COOLAMON HOPPERS

Three things I learned this week 1. I thrnk we play OK in the rain. 2. The 17's must have killed a Chinaman whilst walking under a ladder when a black cat crossed their path. 3. Leeton's bar has a great view. A mixed bag of results at Leeton, with two wins In footy but no luck on the hotmix. The 1 's used their "Get out of Jail Free" card for lhe year. falling In Oya few points after trailing all day tn a pretty ordinary performance. We were kept in the game by Mezza Maloney. who stood out like Jofla at a Royal tea party to take the award Jnfecta of Comm Club, Calcutta and players player. Mitch Robbo was back to his mean stingy self again down back to get the Hopper voucher, with other ( rare ) good player,; including Shark. the Clock and Dom - a game best forgonen. Tl1e 2's seem to be gelling their act together. and scored an impressive win. D J Ash racked up a mountain of touches to score the Comm Club dinner, Mauo continued his nch vein of form to take the Hopper Voucher. and Gumby Steve Is bash• Ing lhe door down to l's selection. starting more winning moves than Chocka Carroll al the Rules Club disco The H's again were pushing crap uphill with a short roster, but never gave up in their loss to the young Crows. although they didn't do themselves any favours with their sloppy disposal. Boii Mcloughlin dominated proceedings hke a wha'e In a goldfish bowl to take the Comm Club prtze. with solid support from Snake Tilyard ( Hopper voucher )and Jack Hooper, whose name suggests he could be a circus acl as well as a footballer Things haven·t got any better on the numbers front 1111th injunes to Jesse and Dan - hopefully they can get back soon We got spanked on the hotmix. going down In all grades against a hot Leeton combo ( that's not saying our gi~s aren't hot either ). In the P.s Coolamon Hotel went to Maddy Kew ( she's not mad - thai's 1ust her name shortened up ) and Steel Supplies went to Mrs Garrett. B's Milney award went to Serinah Leary. with the SS lo Mindy O'Bnen. Amy Buchanan took Jhe No Flies in the C's with Riggles Macauley the Ajanta voucher, while Ashley Brill ( Bakery ) and Nicola La11,g ( Sox ) were the standouts In C2. The Juniors Canteen voucher went to Paige Garrell. with Lotlle Plem1ng snagging the Ajanta th1ngy. A quick glance al the ladders showed that the Crowettes were on top in 4 grades - they must be pretty good. This week the fabulous bus trip to Griffith . Yippee!- II we play like last game we'll probably cop a hiding. Lei's make the lnp back more enjoyable w,th some wins. CARN THE GREENS!

TURVEY PARK BULLDOGS

The Mango game was effectively out of reach early for the 1sts with a disappointing showing in the first half. The efforl after the main break was a lot better on the back of anolher big game from Truman Carroll (Mug/$50) lim Bcckmans (Envy Hair) went back to provide some run out or defence. Jeff Fletcher (Dominos) produced a strong 4 quaner efforl. and the ballwinning ab1hly of Daniel Tooze (Milton's Gear) was on show again. Steve Smith was rewarded with 3 late goals in h,s senior debut for the Club. The 2nds led narrowly at half lime but were outplayed thereafter and ran out of steam. Brodie Elworthy (Mug) continues to press for a senior spot. Nathan Flanigan (Tolland Hotel) ran hard all day, Kyle FarTL1g1a (Dominos) continues to develop nicely, and Jason Wells (Socks & Stubby Holder) provided some good leadership around the packs. The 17's took lhe foot of the pedal late 1n the game, but they'd done enough early to get the points They"ll need a 4 quarter effort against lhe Crows today A few iniunes have struck the boys In recent weeks so hopefully the recovenes are speedy. Kyle Farrugia (Ladies Aux. $20) is 1n good form, Jeremy Sykes (E•ploil) kicked another bag, Ja,e Carey (Dominos) was busy and Seb Graf (Hunters Towel) stood tall when required. The netballers had a clean sweep and all grades are sitting pret1y In the top five as we ;ippror1ch the halfw<>y mark A Grade - Mel Sykes (Mug & Athlete's Foot), Michelle Lumsden (Hunters). B Grade - Nicole Gleeson !Mug & Warehouse), Melissa Wood (Hunters) C Grade - Ca rile Rake (Mug & Rules Club). Leonie Johnson (Hunters) Juniors - Jo Fernando (Cache), Molly Cunningham (Hunters). Get over to lhe court to support the girls today as Leeton-Whitton are always tough opponents. LEETON-WHITTON CROWS

Well for a bye weekend the Club had a fair bit on, on the weekend. The Leeton Auskick Girls got to go to the SCG to play at the h;ilf time interval. Irv said all the girls had a great time. but they did get a little bit wet with the weather they have had in the last week. The U/15's Father and Son trip to Melbourne was also held with m;iny boys and Dads getting to see their first AFL games live. They went to two games over the weekend. On Frid;iy night the Silver Circle was held with Charlte Corbitt the winner. Brad Boots went away with the Representative side to play a Sydney U123's side in Newcastle. Both Brad and the side had good games to win the match easily by 60 pts. This week two of our young stars play milestone games for the Club. Brad Boots plays his 100th and Daniel Sullivan plays his 1501h First Grade Gr1mes Both these young men started playing first's while they were still playing m the old U/ 16's comp They have been great players and examples for their team mates with their courage and leadership. We wish both boys all the best and hope they can get a win tc remember this day with. Now to our last game? Another one we let slip from the jaws of victory. Hopefully time will tell whether we learn from these near loses and turn them into victories. Bryce O'Garey was again a stand out with four first quarter goals, and finished with five for the day. Cal In the ruck was also good. Micks Two's were again overwhelmed by a bigger and more experienced team Keep working boys and learn from Mick and Broady. Langy's U/1 Ts continued on their merry way with another good performance This week will be the big test for the boy's coming up against the lop team. The netball girls have only had one loss for the year to date to lead the way in most grades. Coach's She!ley, Claire and Foxy are doing a great job. so keep it up. GO CROWS11

RIVERINA UMPIRES ASSOCIATION

I hope everybody enjoyed the break over the long weekend. I know a lot of people took the opportunity to head to Melbourne and catch an AFL game. a few went to Swan hill for the races, and one umpire got in the good books with his wife, and took her away to Singapore for their 20th wedding anniversary. Well done Pottsy! 1

Back into the footy though for the second hal f of the season, and a couple of milestone games for some RUA members this weekend. Russell Walker umpires his 250th game for the RUA this weekend. Russell is a loyal member of the RUA. always making himself available to umpire matches. Most weekends would comprise a senior game one day with junior matches the next. Russell has been the Junior umpires co-coordinator, and has been on the RUA Committee. Congratulations Russell on this terrific achievement, and enjoy the day. RUA President. Rob Wilson celebrates an individual milestone out at Ganmain this weekend, when he officiates in his 400th game. This figure comprises over 200 games with the Bendigo Umpires Association in Victoria, and the rest with the RUA. Rob of course is well known 111 AFL circles around the R1venna and we wish him well in his

milestone game today. Congratulations to Mater De1 Catholic College on their win in the 201 1 Carroll Cup The RUA is pleased to be part of this annual event. It's terrific footy. and it allows the RUA to give some young umpires experience running with senior members. The RUA is short on numbers this year, and we urge anybody interested in umpiring to come and join us. The RUA trains at Maher Oval from 6pm every Tuesday and Thursday under the direction of fitness advisor Craig Ambler. You'll be made more than welcome. and of course it gives you the opportunity lo watch our great game from the best seat in the house. It's also handy for a bit of pocket money. Due to a shortage of umpires this year. we have been assisted by some clubs to help us fill uppomtments especially when 1t comes to goal umpires and boundary umpires. The RUA is grateful or the assistance and support we receive on a regular basis from such clubs as Coleambally. Temora, Leeton-Whitton, and Griffith. Nothing is too much trouble for these clubs, and the RUA appreciates your efforts. Thanks also to other clubs within the AFLR who have helped us out during those weeks when we have found ourselves short.

FROM PORT MORESBY TO COOLAMON

RIVERINA Football League club Coolarnon has a long and proud history of strong recruitment and this year has been no different. Wayne Weidemann, Matt Hard, Nigel Scott and Sam Keenan are just few of the big names that spring to mind when it comes to Coolamon's recruiting in recent years. The Hoppers have a knack of being able to bring quality players to the region and this year has been no different. Initially the Hoppers welcomed four Queensland players to the fold and while only two remain, Ben Cadzow and Dorn Nash have proved more than worthwhile acquisitions. The two other recruits that have caught the eye of late have been the names Larry Nao and Greg Aki. The two teenagers are no ordinary recruits. Larry and Greg arrived in Wagga recently straight from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The two lads are products of AFL

25

programs and academies that have been put in place in PNG, that is now starting to see several promising players corning across to Australia . Ironically, the link between the two PNG players and Coolarnon came through one of its latest recruits Ben Cadzow. Ben's father Andrew Cadzow was sent to PNG in 2000 to work as an AFL development officer and he was instrumental in lifting AFL's profile over there. Nao and Aki were just two teenagers to benefit from PNG representative teams that travelled to Australia to compete in the Queensland under 14 and 16 state carnivals. They played their first full season in Australia last year with Nambour & Hinterland in the Queensland state association div ision two. Then through Cadzow's link with Coolarnon, Nao and Aki have been given a second year of Australian football.

COOLAMON TAPS INTO PNG FOR RECRUITS

CONTINUED FROM PAGE 25 Coolamon coach Scott Easdown said the partnership has worked well for both the football club and the two players. "Larry and Greg have been really good," Easdown said this week. "We're really happy with the way they've come straight into ii and they're playing some good footy. "It's a good opportunity to broaden their horizons and experience country footy. "I think there is something like 27 PNG footballers in different Australian leagues now. It just shows the good work the AFL is doing there." Nao has established himself as a capable small forward, while Aki has impressed across with some hard hitting across halfback. "I usually play forward pocket and switch in the middle," Aki said this week.

"I'm starting to switch in the middle more now and it's good." Nao and Aki are quietly spoken teens but have proven popular among their Coolarnon team mates. At the moment, they are doing volunteer work with Wagga's AFL House, while also working with Coolamon builder Tony Rudd. The only difficulty in settling in has been the cold weather, which is something totally foreign to them. "We're getting used to it now." Nao said with a grin. Regardless of what happens for the remainder of the season on field at Coolamon, the recruitment certainly has been something different for both the two young men and the football club.

BULLDOGS' PROACTIVE RESPONSE

AS PER the media release below from the Turvey Park Football and Netball Club in regards to their club public meeting regarding a lack of volunteers. I would like to commend the club for taking the positive step to address the current weakness in their club structure. The club has not sat back and complained po or us, they have engaged their members, supporters and their community to help. It is up to the clubs community to make sure all the roles are field at the club for the 2011 season and beyond. I would encourage all other clubs in a similar position to make sure they utilise the services of AFL NSW/ACT but more importantly their members, supporters and community to help their club executive to run their football and netball club.

TURVEY PARK MEDIA RELEASE 3 June 2011

On the 2 June 2011, The Turvey Park Football and Netball Club (TPFNC) held a Crisis Meeting to discuss the current issue of lack of volunteer support within the Club. Terry Ness. ~esident of the TPFNC has been buoyed by the positive outcomes that have emerged from this meeting. Terry said after the meeting T his is a positive step in the right direction; we knew the help was out there, we just needed to do something to ensure the members were aware of the situation The meeting was well attended with approx 80 people in attendance. This amount was

28

made up of players, netballers and supporters. Paul Habel, AFL NSW Community Football Manger Southern Region was also in attendance and together with Shane Buchanan, Football Operations Manager AFL Riverina provided support and advice in the lead up to the meeting. The TPFNC would like to acknowledge and thank them for this support. The positives to emerge from the meeting were as follows: T he TP'FNC is financially sound and

stable. Reg ardless of what the scoreboard says.

this or any season. the TPFNC is a proud and strong Riverina Football League club and together, can move forward in a positive manner. T here were a number of quality people

willing to step up and be more involved in terms of the future directions of the Club. T here a number of people interested in an

executive position in the club next season. T here was overwhelming support from the

players to step up and volunteer for various roles needed to be carried out on game days. T he relationship between the Senior and the Junior Football club will be strengthened by the appointment of a Joint Club Liaison Officer. Terry Ness stressed that this w as our Club s Step One; Step Two now seems a little less daunting and will be a more positive and accessible task Terry would also like to thank the Turvey Park Junior Football Club for their support through this process, both now and into the future, w e look forward to a more integrated partnership between the Senior and Junior Club The TPFNC Committee would like to thank all those supporters that attended the

meeting and provided valuable input: and they also urge any Turvey people that could not attend to follow the lead of the people in the room last night. For further enquires please contact Wendy McPherson. Secretary of tt1e TPFNC on 0419 289681 ,

FARRER FOOTBALL LEAGUE PREVIEW

EAST-Wagga Kooringal gets its second crack at Farrer League leaders Marrar within the space of five weeks at Langtry Oval on Saturday. The Hawks have proven to be a genuine premiership contender over the first half of the season and shape as the major threat to a Marrar versus The Rock-Yerong Creek grand final. Five weeks ago, the Hawks entered the second half against Marrar on even terms only for the game to get away from them during a one-sided third quarter. The final margin was four goals. and EWK has since pushed TRYC to a one-point game as the Hawks get better by the week. Despite the heartening performances and a far superior percentage, EWK sit behind North Wagga on the table in fourth position. The Hawks really need to knock over either Marrar or TRYC at one stage so help cement a top-three finish and Chris Jackson's men will fancy their chances on Saturday. Shane Smallwood has jumped ship from North Wagga to EWK and has apparently overcome a serious knee injury to be right to play for the Hawks. Smallwood's appearance will be sure to spark some interest given he left to Bombers in similar fashion this time last season. There is no secret the form of coach Chris Jackson and star recruit Matt Clarke has been the big reason behind the Hawks' surge up the ladder. Jackson troubled Marrar's defence in their

T

last clash and he will again prove a key on Saturday. while Clark will need to stand tall against a red-hot Marrar midfield. The Bombers have lost Josh Suckling and Graeme Reid to an overseas trip for the next month. while coach Dean Howard is still set to miss an extended period of time. Marrar sit undefeated however and will back midfielders Brad Langtry, Marty Bahr and Josh Hagar, along with its fire power of Marc Sheppard and Brad Turner up forward. The game should be a cracker and the Hawks will put the acid to Marrar and see just how genuine the Bomhers are.

NORTHERN Jets will need a victory over North Wagga on Saturday if it wants to keep its finals hopes alive. The Jets have slipped off the mark in recent weeks and host the third-placed Saints at Ardlethan. The Jets are a win plus percentage out of the top five and need to find form. These two teams met five weeks ago and only one-point separated them as they played out a controversial one-point thriller under lights at Maher Oval. Jets coach Michael Wheatley was best-onground for Farrer League last weekend and watch for him to step up on Saturday.

CHARLES Sturt University will host a resurgent Ternora team at Peter Hastie Oval on Saturday. The Kangaroos have come good over the past two rounds with a thumping win over Northern Jets. followed up by a narrow loss to North Wagga.

ROUND EIGHT

Finals would still be on the agenda of both clubs and a loss will be devastating to both teams' chances.

THE Rock-Yerong Creek make the trip to Coleambally to complete the round on Saturday.

There was not much between the two teams last time and the Magpies will be out to consolidate its high position on the ladder with a big win. Coleambally is a better team at home however and will fancy its chances of pushing the Magpies all the way.

COLEAMBALLY BLUES

Coly Blues took on CSU at Coly in wet conditions two weeks ago. Coly were totally out classed In the worst perfonnance for the year by the seniors. Best players in a disappointing result were Ryan Bull, Rob Lothian and Carl Pound. Nathan Jones led the goal kicking with three majors. Congratulations to Grahame O'Connell for playing his 100th senior game. Coly 1st grade are now in a position where every game is a must win to stay in finals contention. Reserve Grade went down to younger and more polished CSU line up good to see returns to the paddock for Jay Pound and Adam Boag. Best player Matt Whiteman and Andrew Noack. Coly were also beaten a by Leeton in juniors both U11 and U13 but Coly were very competitive. In netball the U/11 girls got the day off to a promising start with an exciting game, the crowd really enjoyed the close game, eventually the Leeton Crows came out the winners 4 goals to 3. Both Danielle Mannes and Abbey Young had a terrific game and were the award winners. From then on things began to slide for the blues although all teams battled hard the results reflected the capable teams we were up against. U/13 lost by 11 goals to the Crows best on court were Hannah Buchanan & Ella Painting who received this week's awards. Our C grade team struggled to match the very skilled Bush Sows going down by 35 goals. The Elders award went to a determined defender - Amanda O'Connell and the Mug to Emma Painting. B Grade looked to be a lot closer matched and they only lost by 12 goals. Awards went to Tara Pound and Erin Dunbar - who stepped up to B grade and was right at home. A grade took on a very polished side and although defeated by 30 goals put in a strong defensive game. Awards to Maddie Mannes and Kate Jones. Looking forward lo some positive results this week. Don't forget everyone is welcome to the Casserole night after today's games against the TRYC who we welcome to coly for the first time hope your enjoy our da .

MARRAR BOMBERS

For most of us It was nice to have a general bye however we did have Representatwes playing for the Farrer League against the Black Diamond League in Newcastle wrth Brad Langtry as Captain of the Farrer League side Apparently we were competrtive against the stronger side with Marc Sheppard and Marty Bahr and Brad all named amongst the Best Players for Farrer. We also had a number of other players chosen in the initial squad which indicates the strength of the Marrar Football club this year What a close match the week before against a tough and uncomprom1sing team ,n the Northern Jets. Jets asked the question of us and we were able to provide the answer, but not without some scary moments Jazz Kahlefeldt just continues to go from strength to strength this season and thoroughly deserved the Mug for the Best Player award. Graeme Reid may have had a late start to the season but he 1s making up for lost tine wnh another great match and took out the $50 Sportsman Hotel award It wasn't much different for Ben Langtry from playing his way through the Reserves to playing firsts. He Just keeps winning best player awards and it was good to see Bangers take out the S20 Sporties Award Matt Cummins 1s playing some damn good football 1n the Two's and was clearly one of the best against the Jets Wetcome back to Kezza Roberts. Couldn"t keep him out of the action and showed why he will be knocking on the door of F,rst Grade very soon. Kezz won the Marrar Hotel six pack award Les Finemore jusi keeps showing up as one of the best every week In the Two's to take out the Worl<out Gym award and me ole mate Scott Raufers dazzled the opposibon with bnll, ant play to with the South Wagga Bu1Chery meat pack. The Marrar Baby Bombers did not record awn but Matty Q'.

Donnell winning the best ptayer award. Unfortunately, the netball coulis were quite wet early on and our C Grade played through until half time when the match was called off. The A Grade side ctecided to baHle it out 1n Coolamon and were Just beaten in a close game by 2 goals. Emma Coombe played extremely well to take out the best player award. Our B Graders deClded to delay their game unt~ the Thursday and had a gocid win. Ladies day was a resounding success and a big thankyou goes to Jammie and Tanya Grentell from Scientific Pest Management for being the main sponsors of the day. I know all the Boys pitched 1n and helped out so the Ladies could have a relamg day dnnk,ng champers, wine and enJoy1ng lhe footy The Ladies do a hell of a lot for the Footy and Netball Clubs and should be congratulated on a Job well done Tooay we meet the EWK Hawks on our home ground. the big 1mprovers m season 2011 and will be a real test for our Boys today We still have a fair 1niury list but given the

strength of our Reserve Grade hst we have been able to find our way home each game of this season. EAST WAGGA KOORINGAL HAWKS

Pipped at the post is 1 term that could be used to describe last rounds loss. after a brilliant 3rd quarter it looked like the hoodoo. which is our lack of a win at home, was about to be broken but The Rock had other ideas and stole a 1 point victory in what was a great battle. Tile 2·s continued on there winning way whilst the 1 Ts had a week off due to lack of players in the pies 1 Ts. Tile 2nd grade burst out of the blocks and by half time looked like they held a match winning lead, not sure why but the boys went to sleep in the 2nd half and nearly got rolled. In the end though they hung on and continued their marcll up the ladder. The biggest man on the universe according to coach Chene won the mug in a dominant display of ruck work. while Chris Lemon. Gowie and Micky P rounded out best players. In the 1 s it was 3rd V 2nd and we gave ourselves a huge chance of grabbing 2nd spot. a couple of The Rocks more experienced players were the difference 1n the end. Even though we are yet to beat a side above us some mental advantage can be taken out of this game and we just have to be prepared to play a full 4 quarters of footy. We can match it with the best sides, Smithy had a blinder off half back to win the mug and was well served by Grizz. Knoxy. Clarkey and Coombsey. Unfortunately I don·t have the netball awards this week but I can remember the player of the day went to Erin Quintal. well done Ez. Now the girls were again beaten in all grades but as they say in the classics it's not whether you win or lose it's ... you know the rest. Just a snippet of info on the netball girls, some might say they aren't trying or whatever just because they haven't had a win yet. but in fact there have been extra training sessions added which include sprints. laps around they oval in the dark. Indian file running and of course plenty of court time. So when they are striving to improve as much as they are. it's only a matter of time before they wiU be blowmg opposition teams away. Good work girls. This week it"s out to Langtry Oval, note to all te;ims· bring you·re A game! Best of luck to everyone and see you back at the "R1ngal.
