In celebration of the rejuvenation of unhindered worship
Luke 7:36-50, John 12:1-8
Introduction
• Oasis is rest – Matt. 11:28-30
• Oasis is refreshment– Luke 21:34
Jesus I am Resting, Resting
Jesus, I am resting, resting,In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatnessof Thy loving heart.Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,For by Thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.
Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love, so pure, so changeless,
Satisfies my heart;Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies its every need,Compasseth me round
with blessings:Thine is love indeed!
Jesus, I am resting, resting,In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatnessof Thy loving heart.

Introduction
• Worship is a refreshing, enjoyment of God.
• Worship is my rational, emotional, physical response to the character and work of God.
In the resurrected Christ, there is a relief from wasted worship.
“a small but irritating flaw that spoils the whole thing”
A FLY in the
OINTMENT!
The “Bethany” Story
• There are four accounts of anointing with ointment or perfume in the gospels
• None of them are identical• One episode, two or four episodes?• The story of Mary of Bethany is
probably a “copycat” event
Flies in the Ointment
• It is not about what others think of me– Worship is for an audience of One– Worship is about my renewed
relationship with God, not my past sin– Fearing man is the beginning of
imprisonment
Flies in the Ointment
• It is not about what I can get from this episode– Worship is not about a happy feeling or
emotional rush or spiritual high– Worship is about sacrificial response– Worship is about preaching the gospel
Flies in the Ointment
• It is not about how much I can bring to this episode– The disciples concentrated on the
monetary value of the gift– Their “fly” was the wasted potential– This world is empty, pale and poor
compared to fully worshiping Him
One Pure and Holy Passion
To know and follow hard after youTo grow as your disciple in your truthThis world is empty, pale, and poorCompared to knowing you, my LordLead me on and I will run after youLead me on and I will run after you

What will we do at TaB to create a worship oasis?
We must bear the weight of the glory of God bestowed on us by our Great Re-Creator with delight.
The Weight of Glory
“To please God...to be a real ingredient in the divine happiness...to be loved by God, not merely pitied, but delighted in as an artist delights in his work or a father in a son—it seems impossible, a weight or burden of glory which our thoughts can hardly sustain. But so it is.”
C.S. Lewis
Worship Oasis
• Worship the Crucified, Risen Savior both individually and corporately– forgiven– thankful– humble– fragrant– extravagant
