How to Design and Layout an Assignment Paper
Faculty of Ontario Bible Institute
Assignments are an important part of your course grading scheme.
If the classroom lecture hours are relatively short, the balance of the
required hours to make the intensive class a College-level course are
compensated by the professor in the handing out of student
assignments, projects, and/or internships, depending on the nature of
the course.
Some assignments may be in the form of:
Writing a Book Report (length of Faculty’s choosing)
An Exam to review your Knowledge of the Course Subject
Material
An Essay on a given Topic that is related to the Subject being
taught
In each case, the readability of the Assignment is very important to both
the professor and the student. Therefore it is requested that all work
submitted be typed in Times New Roman font, no greater than 12 point
font size, double-spaced, with headings in bold. Please also ensure that
sub-headings are in bold as well.
Included in the OBI Academic Standards Guide is a sample of a
completed assignment on Page ____. Please keep this guide as a
reference document for your projects and assignments. Any diversions
from the standard model may result in the professor returning the
assignment for replacement, or loss of marks.
Citation Preference:
OBI prefers the standardized MLA reference and citation style for all
documents. Other styles such as APA or Chicago are accepted, but for
those not familiar with these styles, we highly recommend you use MLA.
The following is a section on MLA reference and citation style for those
learning for the first time, or for those who require a review.

MLA Reference & Citation Style
Faculty of Ontario Bible Institute
References provide the exact location for the primary sources of
information used in the text of your assignments. The bibliography (list
of works cited) on the other hand, collectively provides the list from
which the citations were extracted from.
CAUTION: Ontario Bible Institute considers plagiarism as “the
presentation of the work of another author in such a way as to give one’s
reader reason to think it to be one’s own.” Plagiarism, in every academic
institution, is a form of academic fraud.
In MLA style, you make clear your references by including parenthetical
citations within your text. This is what refers your reader of examiner to
the alphabetical bibliography, which appears at the end of the document
on a separate page. Below is an example:
“The first disciples realized that God had entered right into our
own religious mind-set and, through Jesus, became the final
sacrifice. There was nothing left for us to do to make ourselves
right before God” (Day, 85).
The citation “(Day, 85)” informs the reader or examiner that the
quotation/citation originates on page 85 of a document by the author
named “Day.” In consultation with the bibliography, the reader would
find the following information under the name Day:
Day, Tim. God Enters Stage Left: Plot Twist. Oakville: The
Meeting House, 2013. Print.
The bibliography may provide a second work by this author, which in
accordance with the MLA style, the reference would appear in the list
with three hyphens substituting the author’s name. The following is a
fictitious example:
---, The History of the Old Testament. Nashville: Thomas Nelson,
2013. Print.
5
Parenthetical references should be brief, straightforward and clear. If
the context of the sentence or paragraph makes clear which document
in the bibliography the citation is coming from, then only the pages are
necessary. For example:
John C. Warren reports on fossil impressions at the rocks of the
Connecticut River that “while these deposits were taking place in
the soft condition, portions of vegetable matters might become
intermixed; and that these, with the impressions of the feet and
other parts of animals and unorganized substances, might be
preserved by the process of desiccation” (14).
The parenthetical reference “(14),” in combination with the mention of
John C. Warren at the beginning of the paragraph, clarifies to the reader
or teacher that the citation comes from page 14 of the following
document listed in the bibliography:
Warren, John C. Remarks on some Fossil Impressions in the
Sandstone rocks of Connecticut River. Boston: John Wilson and
Son, 1854. Print.

Ministerial Ethics Jeremiah Dos Santos Certificate Program
Introduction
Abortion is a controversial issue discussed by many people, organizations,
and governments. Different groups have different opinions and they act
accordingly. Some of them try to justify the issue and balance the consequence
saying that it is acceptable depending on some ‘specific reasons.’ Thousands of
babies are aborted each day around the world. The statistics state that 300
abortions are taking place in Canada every day, while it is 126,000 in the world
(CCBR).
Then some questions keep popping up when talking about abortions; such
as, is it fair to kill unborn babies? Why only killing them & not the children
who are already here on the earth, or why not their parents? Are they being
killed because they can’t fight back, or because they are not matured enough to
get defensive reactions? Are babies’ lives worthless & adults’ lives worthy?
The time has come to clarify the issue, set a strong determination and
proclaim to the entire world that ‘the truth is truth.’ The truth cannot be
changed from person to person, religion to religion, people to people or from
country to country. The truth must be the same and never changes. So, let us
find the pearl of truth about abortion in this corrupted and polluted ocean of
confusion.
Growing Fetus
A sperm and an ovary get together and make a zygote. In other words, two
living cells from two people (male and female) make one living cell. That
single cell (zygote) develops into an embryo, then to a fetus, and then to a
complete human being within 9 months in his/her mother’s womb. Let’s
consider how this baby is growing.
At the conception, fertilization and implantation are taking place in the
fallopian tube and in the womb. The new baby’s life begins at this stage,
because conception occurs when these two living cells meet together. Then, the
baby starts to grow rapidly and secretly in his mother’s womb.
