Treatment for Iron Deficiency Anemia Anemias are a group of disorders that are characterized by a reduc-

tion in the blood's ability to carry oxygen. Iron deficiency anemia is just one type. It can be caused by malnutrition, hookworms, and diets with limited meat, fresh fruit, or fresh vegetables. This type of anemia often has no symptoms and is best diagnosed by a blood test done at a physician's office.

The treatment for iron deficiency anemia includes iron supplementa- tion with diet and iron preparations. There are multiple iron supplement products available with and without a prescription. Iron supplements come in several forms that include: ferrous sulfale, ferrous gluconate, ferrous fumarate, and polysacaride iron complex. The differences in these formulations rest in how much iron can be absorbed from the prod- uct. To get the most iron from any iron supplement, use a non-sustained release prduct, take the supplement about and hour before meals, and do not use a combination product such as antacids. Iron products are some- times difficult to tolerate and can cause stomach upset. To increase tol- erability, take the supplement in 2-3 divided doses daily and take with food if given approval by a physician. Report any difficulties in tolerabil- ity or for questions about your iron supplement, consult your pharma- cist.

In one case, prosecutors filed seeking forfeiture of the $25,000 bond of Martiniano Flores Alvarez, who failed to appear in court on Sept. 30 on a charge of family violence.

In another case, prosecutors filed to forfeit the $9,000 bond of Brigido Ruiz, who failed to appear Oct. 28 on an aggravated assault charge.

In a third case, prosecutors are seeking to forfeit the $1,500 bond of Chris James Wicke, for failing to ap- pear Oct. 28 on a charge of DWI.

Friend's House Gives Christmas Program By Carol Cardenas

My Friend's House Day Care presented "The Christmas Story" on Sunday, Dec. 11 in front of a packed house at the United Methodist Church (UMC) in Eagle Lake.

UMC Rev. Ardie Nelson narrated the story with Ms. Karen's Pre-K Class portraying the characters in the recital.

Garrison Zeinert and Carlee Do- splauf played the parts of Joseph and Mary, respectively.

Gabriel Maisyn Stancik played the Angel.

Elena Cantu, Cess Losoya, Evelyn Martinez, Alyssa Struss and Madison Vasquez were angels.

Serving as shepherds were Dray- ton Canaris, Dylan Struss, Kyle Thorn- hill and Aaron Tristan.

The three wise men were Carter Cook, Cole George and Colton Jones.

Mason Glueck played the sheep and Skylar Glasier was dressed as a cow.

The class also entertained those in attendance by singing: "Clap Your Hands", "God Is So Good", "Our God Is A Great Big God", "Santa Claus is Coming To Town", "Rudolph", "Jingle Bells" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas".

After the play a silent auction and dinner consisting of beef tips and gravy, rice and green beans was served.

A great time was had by all.

Fun Family Traditions For Christmas Time The meaning of Christmas is

sometimes obscured by long lines at the mall, begging children, and the stress of rushing around town. This holiday season put the focus back on family and tradition, with some help- ful ideas from Cynthia MacGregor, author of "Fun Family Traditions" (Meadowbrook Press).

-Do you have a poet or composer in your family? Why not write your own Christmas carol this year? You can make changes to an existing song or write it from scratch. Music fills the holidays with memories and this Christmas will be extra special with your own family song.

-A homemade gift is the best kind for grandparents and close relatives. Devote an evening with your whole family, a few weeks before Christmas,

for making gifts. Turn on the holiday music, make some hot chocolate, and have a great time.

-Every Christmas package needs to be decorated. Making your own gift wrap this season is a fun way to personalize your gifts. Use colorful

markers to add holiday warmth to brown wrapping paper, or use alumi- num foil and stick-on stars to show the bright spirit of the season. Last year's Christmas cards are filled with holiday images that can be cut out and pasted to make a festive package.

-New traditions are wonderful ways

to bring your family together, but old traditions, like baking Christmas cook? ies, should not be forgotten. Baking delicious cookies fills your home with the holiday spirit as well as the smell of nutmeg, chocolate, and cinnamon: They also make wonderful gifts!

Christmas Projects For Kids There is no need to run out and

buy Christmas decorations this year! Cynthia MacGregor, author of "Mom- my's Little Helper Christmas Crafts" (Meadowbrook Press), offers some fun and inexpensive ways to spend time with your children and decorate your home. MacGregor suggests two quick and easy projects you can do with your child that will transform

regular pine cones into dazzling holi- day decorations.

The materials you will need are pine cones, paint, glue, a small jar lid, aluminum foil, and glitter.

The first project only takes thirty minutes. Start by having your child lay newspaper over the work space.

Spray-paint two pine cones silver, two gold, and leave two unpainted.
