NEUS Chapter Education Theme for 2016:

Leading Under Intense Pressure As leaders of our companies, we must perform under pressure each and every day, it comes with the territory. There are however times when the intensity of the pressure spikes. Typically the kinds of events that put us and our companies under tremendous pressure are difficult to forecast and often come with little warning. How we perform in such circumstances can define our companies and our leadership for years to come. How can we as leaders improve the skills necessary to perform at our best when intense pressure comes? We will look to acquire these skills through a 3 part series of unique experiences.

1. We will visit with a top journalist who has covered crisis situations around the world. He has interviewed world leaders who were dealing with extraordinary pressure. He also personally endured his own high pressure situation this year. Get his perspective.

2. We will live a day in the life of a New York City Firefighter at their training center. We will literally experience their intense pressure and then discuss its applicability.

3. With the help of 2 experienced SEAL Team 6 veterans, we will explore physically and mentally what the SEAL approach can teach us about leading under intense stress.

These 3 educational events should inspire, inform and stimulate us mentally and physically. I look forward to experiencing these “only in YPO” activities with you.

An Evening with Lester Holt

Lester Holt BioJournalist Lester Holt, 56 started out in radio as a teenager. He landed a job as a television reporter in New York City in 1981. In the mid-1980s, Holt began his nearly 14-year run on Chicago's WBBM as a reporter and news anchor. He joined NBC in 2000 as a reporter. Before long, he landed work on such shows as Today, MSNBC's Lester Holt Live and Dateline. He also became the weekend anchor on the NBC Nightly News in 2007. After Brian William’s suspension last year, Lester became the interim Nightly News Anchor while continuing with his grueling Dateline and weekend anchor responsibilities. After 5 months of speculation, Holt was formally named the permanent anchor of NBC Nightly News, making him the first African-American to be the lead anchor on a broadcast network's weekday nightly newscast. During Lester Holt’s career he has covered with great poise hundreds of crisis's domestic and foreign. Lester showed the same cool under pressure during the interim period after Williams was suspended as he professionally shared the news each evening while those around him speculated if he should keep the seat. Since Lester took over The NBC Nightly News it has returned to #1 in the ratings. Now that’s leadership under pressure!

Program Description: An Evening with Lester Holt-Lester Holt will share an intimate evening with just the North East YPO Chapter

-He will come straight from the Studio to have cocktails with us at 7:30pm followed by dinner at 8:30pm (Restaurant TBD, will be a private room)

-We will turn the table on Lester and interview him on a range of topics. In keeping with this year’s theme of leading under intense pressure, we will focus on situations that Lester has covered where he has witnessed and interviewed leaders under pressure

-He will also then take questions from Chapter members and then enjoy a relaxed, casual dinner with you

-We will hire a photographer to photograph each member with Lester

Chief Rob Roy, Founder of

Rob is a 20 year veteran of the SEAL teams. While in the SEALs, Rob served with SEAL Team Six, and ant-terrorism and maritime interdiction team that serves as one of the US Government’s key devices in the Global War On Terror (GWOT). Rob has toured with many operational units including the US Army Special Forces, the CIA and US Customs. He also served as a Leading Chief Petty Officer for the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Motivators.

As an accomplished military veteran, an actor (you may recognize him from “Deadliest Warrior”, “Rhino Wars”, “Ultimate Soldier” or as the voice of “Wardog” on PlayStation’s Navy SEAL: SOCOM games), a public speaker and writer (The Navy SEAL Art of War coming Spring 2015), Rob also uses his knowledge and experience to help transform the lives of men and women through training, seminars and speaking engagements across the nation. In 2005, Chief Roy founded SOT-G, with one mission…to provide effective and efficient solutions that enable clients to operate safely in challenging territories, as well as develop their leadership potential far beyond what they would have ever imagined. Execute with DisciplineThis seminar uses the leadership and team-building techniques, and strategies of USNavy SEAL Teams. The 'Execute with Discipline Program' is a combination ofpresentations and team building events. Each program is designed with clear andconcise objectives with an overarching lesson in peer‐to‐peer collaboration and anemphasis on contingency planning. Our goal is to help develop within each team,group or organization the ability to utilize and leverage the strengths of others, whileminimizing the weakness of the individual or team. This type of training is instrumentalin military training by forcing action instead of reaction. It will force them to think as ateam outside the box: anticipate events with minimal information while effectivelycommunicating the tasking and priorities. This seminar will provide clear and concisedirection and opportunity, as well as a gateway for personal growth. As we strive formaximum participation and inclusiveness to ensure individual effort within a groupenvironment. This seminar will be broken up into two parts.
