Cloud computing services… aren’t they all the same? Think again. Oblakoteka soars above its competitors with super-scalable cloud services backed up by an ultra-flexible, software-defined storage infrastructure based on Lenovo and Microsoft technology.

The name says it all. Moscow-based IT services provider Oblakoteka’s moniker comes from the Russian word ‘oblako’, meaning cloud. Which is very apt considering Oblakoteka specializes in delivering virtual infrastructure resources to some of Russia’s biggest cloud service providers. Through its clients, Oblakoteka supports companies from a wide range of industries, from finance and retail to manufacturing.

There are many cloud service providers in Russia, so what sets Oblakoteka apart?

“We’re passionate about helping our clients help their customers get the most out of the cloud,” says Maxim Zakharenko, General Director at Oblakoteka. “We’re always on the look-out for cool, new technologies that will improve the performance and quality of our cloud services.”

Working closely with Lenovo, Oblakoteka implemented one System x3650 M5 server cluster at both of its data centers, with each cluster configured as a single software-defined environment. Powered by the Intel® Xeon® E5 processor family, the two hyperconverged configurations deliver impressive performance levels.

“We were working to a tight deadline, which is why we decided to team up with Lenovo on the hardware side,” says Alexei Permyakov, Technical Director at Oblakoteka. “They’d already developed and tested a hardware bundle for Windows Server 2016, so we didn’t have to mess about with configuring servers and other low-level tasks ourselves. The Lenovo staff were super-helpful and made sure we got everything set up correctly in our data center.”

Oblakoteka is the only Russian cloud provider that offers cloud services based on Windows Server 2016 technology, well ahead of its competitors. That’s why only Oblakoteka can provide its clients all the latest Windows features, like Storage Spaces Direct (S2D).

Alexei Permyakov comments: “S2D allows us to build and scale storage solutions for clients really quickly and easily. Software-defined storage is growing in popularity all the time, and S2D is helping us to meet and cash in on that demand.”

With S2D underpinning its cloud offerings, Oblakoteka can be sure of delivering the fast, flexible services that clients expect.

“Our clients are using our cloud services to do amazing things,” says Marina Zaychikova, Marketing Consultant at Oblakoteka. “One client, PE Zhitkov V.P., used it to host an automated dispatch control system for one of their customers in the logistics industry. Automating the dispatch of delivery vehicles saves the customer about 55% on analog radio and telephone equipment costs! Moving to the cloud has completely changed their business for the better – and more companies want to do the same.”

As demand for cloud services in Russia keeps growing, Oblakoteka is ready for the challenge. The company is already looking at implementing Lenovo ThinkAgile SX for Microsoft Azure Stack, which will enable it to deliver popular Microsoft Azure Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) services from its own data centers.

Maxim Zakharenko concludes: “With the Lenovo and Microsoft technology in place, we’re very confident that we can deliver the services people want without delay – now and in the future.”
