Social & religion related observations You must be one of the observers in society about various activities executed by the monks. You may be

one of the direct executives or participants of such activities. Just check if you are one of those and think

what is right and wrong? Suggest you to take a stand on the point which you feel strongly correct and

stop if you feel what is happening is wrong.

Background - 1. Monks are supposed to be

1. Deeply studying the principles of religion and sharing with the followers. The both the cases

are seen rarely. Also followers do not demand such guidance, putting the questions.

2. Involved in deep worship of god at various time slots like early morning & evening. Most of

those are not seen doing so.

3. Following guidelines laid by the God

What do they do? 2. Instead of above most of the monks

1. Deal with money collection in the form of donation, offer the money thus collected to earn

interest. Is this correct?

2. Grab or seek donations of the properties and deal with various transactions.

3. Gather their favorable followers and transact money, land & other assets matters through them.

4. Are instrumental in building temples, trusts, schools and hospital as commercial & business center

5. Have become power centers of their kingdom, building image, demanding respect, preferring only

rich people to be around.

Page 2: Observations about monks and social leaders

6. Politicising the groups and creating new creeds

About followers 3. Why individual social person gets around such monk? Simply because it offers those people

platform to lead a group of people, to be front runner, to get a publicity here & there.

4. Once such leaders are known within society, it helps for their businesses & groom their personal

relationships.

Solutions 5. What is to be done?

Responsibility of people

Do not forget Fundamental principles

a. As a part of society we all to observe seven deadly sins and avoid those

Wealth Without Work

Pleasure Without Conscience

Knowledge Without Character

Commerce (Business) Without Morality (Ethics)

Science Without Humanity

Religion Without Sacrifice

Politics Without Principle

b. People can control the activities of the monks and in turn monks can advice routine behavior of

the people like dos and don’ts.

c. People need to maintain the boundary and observe the strict following & implementation of the

practical guidelines & principles by the monks. It is time to redefine the principles.

d. People should define the boundary limits for the monks. When we say monk should follow

practical guidelines & latest compatible with time & technology, limits are not defined. Few

guidelines are extreme and terrible in each of the religions. E.g. not to use mike & speaker even

while addressing the rally of 10,000 plus people (say during Diksha), and on other hand contrary

life is just lived like another social person or even more luxurious e.g. few are using camera &

media for publicity, almost living like social people like washing clothes, ironing, ordering special

food, shaving using latest instruments, using air-conditioners, mobile, laptop, internet, mediator

for political problems, mediator for the marriages, etc, etc. These are extreme implementations.

(What is the difference as a monk and social person?)

e. It is high time to nationalize the assets build and operated by local trusts and monks. There is a

gold worth of four lacs crore in just one of the temples. Is it in safe custody? It is high time

reserve bank of India should get all such movable assets to their safe custody. Is it safe if some

national calamity arises in the area? What has happened at Kedarnath & other Chhatisgard

state?

Page 3: Observations about monks and social leaders

f. People to encourage monks to limit their activities related to religion only. People should take

leadership position for social activities.

g. Direct Expense of Chaturmas or other religious functions generally ranges from 40 lacs to 2 cr,

indirect expense would be much more like people visit travelling from long distance places, etc.

Leaders collect & spent huge money arranging various events like appreciation of upawas tap

(fasting) like tela (3 days), aadhai (8 days), etc! Is this correct? We experienced that in 13500 Rs,

school kit for a year fr 150 poor children can be managed. Which kind of expense would you

promote?

h. Similar expenses are done by various social trusts for elections, meetings, moving around, media

& publicity, etc. Would not it be better to spend such funds for education, scholarships,

supporting poor people or widow, etc?

Appeal

6. Many intellect & common people stay away from these happening.

1. Only reason is they cannot voice their views in public. It’s a challenging task to tune and rebuild

religion. So they watch helplessly, why? Suggest putting your views across and get debated. Use

social websites and share. Use 1:1 forum with monks or common public platform. It’s a high time.

Bring a change, whatever small it might be.

2. Also do not be a part of such groups, political and/or social forums while working on religious

activities. Encourage those to be handled by society without involvement of the monks, let monks

do their duties.

3. Please stop spending unnecessary & unwanted. Expense must have utilization value.

4. Do not accept following stupid arguments & do not encourage monks pursuing following

i. There is a life in electricity, cell, cell-phone, remote control, watch, TV, Radio, etc

ii. Not to eat green vegetables or keep those limited. (Green vegetables are must for good

health, having iron and source of hemoglobin, etc)

iii. Drink water after cleaning pots using ash & such water is healthy for life.

iv. Filtering water just using cloth makes it pure. (It has to be done using appropriate filter)

v. Not to eat vegetables on particular day like Second day (Bij), Fifth day (Pacham) or 8th day

(aatham), 11th day or 14th & 15th day (why???, does sin if at all eating vegetable on

particular day more? or does volume of bacteria more on particular day? )

vi. Loving spouse or sexual intercourse is a sin. Semen has millions lives & intercourse means

killing those many lives!(It is natural and nature’s most beautiful gift. In fact pure

relationship to be encouraged). It has potential life but not a life unless there is union of

male & female sperm.

vii. Encouraging kids & children lesser than 18 for Diksha, becoming monks.

viii. Gathering at particular place/city for common prayer! It is waste of time, energy, efforts,

fuel consumption and cost! The same can be done by each individual at their own city.

Page 4: Observations about monks and social leaders

ix. Fasting in group of thousands might be ok but celebrating it as a huge festival & spending

huge amount of money, gathering of the guys & their family members, etc. This is just to

project the leadership of monk and a social worker.

5. Monks to guide on following 20 types of sins & improve personal behavior

1. Non-violence

2. Not to cheat & tell lie

3. Not to theft

4. Not to adultery

5. Not to be possessive

6. Not to be angry

7. Not to be egoistic, but to be polite

8. Not to be hypocrite

9. Not to be greedy

10. Not to be deeply attached

11. Not to hatred

12. Not to quarrel

13. Not to slur

14. Not to backbite

15. Not to blame someone

16. Not to contradict unnecessary

17. Not to manipulate

18. Not to believe in unlike faith

19. Not to drink alcohol

20. Not to eat non-vegetarian food
