POLICYAmbercare will provide INFORMATION and TRAINING for ALL PERSONNEL at risk for occupational exposure

PROCEDUREAll personnel at risk for

occupational exposure will participate in a training program which will be:Provided at NO COST to Ambercare personnel and during working hours

Provide during orientation, PRIOR to the time of initial assignment of tasks where occupational exposure may take place

Provide training (after initial orientation) and annually thereafter

The training program will consist of:Material appropriate in content and vocabulary to educational level, literacy, and language ability of Ambercare personnel being trained. It will contain the follow elements:

A copy of the regulatory text on the bloodborne pathogen standard – and explanation of its content to each applicable employee

General explanation of the epidemiology and symptoms of bloodborne disease and the modes of transmission of bloodborne pathogens (DO A TIP SHEET ON THIS)

Explanation of Ambercare’s exposure control plan (where it’s location is and how they can obtain a copy of it)

An explanation of the appropriate methods for recognizing tasks and other activities that may involve exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials

Explanation of the use and limitations of methods that will prevent or reduce exposure (work practices, PPE)

Information on the types, basis for selection, proper use, location, removal, handling, decontamination and disposal of PPE

Information of the HBV vaccine (including it’s efficacy, safety, method of administration, benefits of being vaccinated,)

Actions to take in case of an Emergent exposure to potentially infectious materials

Explanation of incident reporting (method of reporting) and medical follow-up if needed

Post exposure evaluation and follow-up after an exposure incident

Explanation of signs, labels, and/or color-coding

An opportunity for interactive questions and answers with the person conducting training sessions

The person conducting the training will be knowledgeable in the subject matter being conveyed

MAINTAINING TRAINING RECORDS

FOR A MINIMUM OF THREE (3) YEARS FROM THE DATE OF TRAINING, including, but not limited to:Date, contents, and summary of training sessions

Names and qualifications of persons conducting training

Names and job titles of all persons attending training sessions
