Tom Hopperton over 65 is one of the 1,200 employees working for the supermarket, Tesco. He’s been working there for fifteen months. Before that, he was a plumber for thirty years.

Tom skates about five miles a day around the store, bringing things for customers who have forgotten something and they are ready to pay. His salary is not so good, but he loves his job. He helps the customers and they are usually very nice to him. He always likes meeting people and it keeps him healthy . He can not sit at home doing nothing. He has to be busy.

Tesco made the decision to employ people of all ages. It sees the advantage of elderly workers who are calmer and more authentic when they are dealing with customers.

Kathy is a babysitter. On Mondays and Wednesdays, she works for the Wilsons. On Tuesdays

Friday is Kathy’s favorite day, because she works for the Taylors. Mrs. Taylor has only two

Jory earns his living as a dog trainer, a skill he picked up in the late 70’s, while serving in the army. In Israel, however, after ending active military service in 1980, he worked as a professional fashion photographer for 15 years. During this time, he trained dogs as a hobby.

In a recent interview, after a two-hour

training session with 10 dogs and their

owners, in a pleasant park in Pavas,

the 44-year-old trainer from Israel

talks about this land of “friendly

people, good vibration and, certainly,

nature...a calm place. In Costa Rica, Jory soon discovered that his skill in fashion photography was not appreciated in this country. Therefore, he preferred his other profession –dog trainer.
