WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING: Buddy Bench Last week’s Buddy Bench Launch was incredibly well supported by our K‐2 families.   After months of research, design, planning and then work, the buddy bench was unveiled. Our students now have a place to go to find friends thanks to the efforts of teachers. Of course this would not have been possible without the wonderful work and talents of our general assistant Rob.

THE BUDDY BENCH  On Friday afternoon there was a grand opening for the Buddy Bench. Parents, brothers and sisters came to celebrate with stage 1. When our class came out of the room we sat down on the ground and waiting excitedly. The students didn’t know what the Buddy Bench looked like and it was covered with a sheet so we couldn’t see. We all sang a song called Jingi Walla to welcome everyone to our school and we had a lovely time telling our parents about what we have learnt about the design process. The Buddy Bench has been painted with rainbow colours and very beautiful. When you are feeling lonely, sad or have no one to play with you sit on the buddy bench and a friend will come. We finished off the day with a lovely family picnic and played games with our families. I can’t wait to use the Buddy Bench.

By Natalie Groves Cross Country Last week Charlie Ormiston travelled to Sydney for the State PSSA Cross Country Championships. Charlie is a great runner and came seventh in the state. This was an outstanding achievement – well done Charlie!  Primary Music Program On Friday our 3‐6 Music program commenced which provides our band members the opportunity to work with Mr Gibbons and Sean Tonnet to improve their musical skills. Others students in Years 3 and 4 will be learning musical concepts through recorder while Years 5 and 6 are learning ukulele.  Spelling Bee The NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee competition will be held in the school hall on Wednesday 2nd August, starting at 11:30am. Representatives from classes 3‐6 will be competing to proceed through to the Regional Level. Students coming first and second only will proceed through. We congratulate all students for participating and wish them the best of luck. Thank you for organising this wonderful competition Mrs Buckley.  Study Centre The years 3‐6 Study Centre has recommenced this term. The centre offers supervised study before school and will run weekly, Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30am in 4/5B’s

New Finance System

25th July, 2017

Dear Parents and Carers

Ocean Shores Public School will transition to the new NSW Public Schools’ finance system and a new bank account on 4 September 2017.

To ensure a smooth transition, there will be changes to the way we accept payments from parents and carers.

1. Cash and cheque payments: Between 23rd August 2017 and 5th September 2017, we will not be

able to accept payments by cash or cheque as we prepare to close our current bank account and transition to the new one. Please ensure that you have made any outstanding cash or cheque payments before 23rd August 2017. From 6th September 2017, cash and cheque payments will be accepted as before.

2. Online payments: As of 6 September 2017, we will begin to accept online payments using the Department of Education’s Parent Online Payment (POP) system. A button to access this online payment system titled ‘$ Make a Payment’ will be visible on the utility bar on the front page of our school’s website at http://www.oceanshore-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/ By selecting this link, parents

and carers will be taken to a secure Westpac QuickWeb payment page, from which they can make online payments.

Please note: As a Westpac-hosted solution, cardholder and account details will be held securely, helping to protect the school and its customers from fraudulent transactions as well as assisting in meeting the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCIDSS) compliance requirements.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we transition to our new finance system. We are hopeful the addition of an online payment facility will prove of benefit to families. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Yours Sincerely

Martin Gill Rel. Principal
