Recommended Path ForwardNovember 29, 2011 Presentation to City Council

• Develop approved Open Space Plan as part of Master Plan– Provide a roadmap for Open Space acquisitions– Obtain Green Acres Block Grant (State funds)

• Simplifies State application process• Eliminates the need for the City to provide interim

funding

– Establishes broad criteria for County Open Space proposals (County funds)

Association of NJ Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) Grant

• Objective: Develop an Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP). This OSRP will be prepared in accordance with the “Municipal Land Use Law” (NJS 40:55D-28.b7) and will also conform to the NJDEP Green Acres Open Space and Recreation Plan Guidelines.

• Grant Funding Awarded: $7,500 in August, 2012

• Projected Completion: Summer 2014

• Goal 7: To provide for the maintenance of Ocean City’s family resort character and identity as a recreation resource of the state and region including: protection and maintenance of the ocean, bay, wetlands, open spaces and beaches, and recreation facilities which are convenient, accessible and appropriate for year-round residents and seasonal visitors.

• Provide critical guidance for future city planning – Protect natural resources and advance

sustainability goals– Expand on 2004 OSRP ideas

• Coordinate with the State Green Acres and County Open Space programs– Increase funding opportunities

• Matching funds and “pre-approval”

• Evaluate how residents, visitors and property owners feel about existing recreation and open space opportunities within the City– Engage a diverse cross-section of community

• Develop an Open Space and Recreation Plan that properly reflects the vision of our community

• Complete the Open Space Survey– The survey takes a few minutes of your time– Can be electronically completed via the city

website (www.ocnj.us)– The survey can also be obtained at City Hall

• Attend a Public Meeting– OC Environmental Commission Meetings

• Monday, November 4, 2013– Civic and non-profit organization meetings

• Analyze and present survey findings to City Council, Administration and the Public
