TROMBONE RECITAL AT TRINITY—Connor Thummel will present a recital in the sanctuary at

FOOD DONATIONS URGENTLY NEEDED —As some of you may have noticed, one of the local

food pantries that we support - the Niles Township Food Pantry - is experiencing a major surge

in demand for food and is finding its shelves are too often bare. As a recent Chicago Tribune arti-

cle noted, the pantry went from serving having about 4000 client families per month to more

than 6000 clients in both June and July. The Faith in Action committee is reaching out to ask that

Trinity members make a special effort in the coming weeks to bring food for Niles Township

Food Pantry. Donations of any size of non-perishable food are appreciated.

THE NEXT SPIRIT ENSEMBLE REHEARSAL will take place on Friday, Oct. 13 at the Wilson/Parry

residence (8230 Karlov, Skokie; 847-933-1340). The rehearsal will begin with a 6:30 pm pot-

luck. Please bring a side, salad, bread or dessert item to share. The main dish and beverages will

be provided. The rehearsal will begin at 7:45 and we will be rehearsing music for the 11:00 am

services on Oct. 15 & 29 and Nov. 5. All are welcome!

SYMPATHY & PRAYERS — Maggie Lux Cumings, former member of Trinity, died Sept. 28 at the

age of 37. She is survived by her husband, Michael and two children, Zoe and Leo; mother, Mar-

ilyn Lux; sister, Claire Lux Winnard. Maggie served as pastor at First Lutheran in St. James, MN.

Maggie was preceded in death by her father, John, on August 31. Expressions of sympathy may be

October Mission Possible: Holy Family Ministries

Holy Family students’ families are able to contribute only a portion of the full cost of a quality education. Your donation can help fill the tuition gap and open up a world of opportunity for Holy Family students. Candice J., 2016 8th grade valedictorian, talked about her Holy Family experience in her graduation speech: I have attended Holy Family for five years and have gained self-confidence and learned to really love myself. There have been times when I would shy away from activities be-cause I was afraid of what others might think of me, but now the main thing I care about is pleasing God and making my parents proud. I finally realized that I need to learn how to speak up for myself because this is my life and I am the captain of my fu-ture. For over 30 years, Holy Family’s goals have been to strengthen communities by educat-ing youth for entrance into high-performing high schools, instilling in youth the values and resilience needed to succeed in life, providing them sanctuary within a struggling area of the city, and developing new, young leaders within the community. Holy Family Ministries Center, located on the historic Homan Square campus in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood, has been Holy Family’s base of activity since 2008 when con-struction of the new facility was completed. Holy Family Ministries operates Holy Fami-ly School, a Christian kindergarten through 8th grade school, the Little Learners Acade-my pre-school and child care center, Adventures in Learning after school and summer enrichment programs, and the Peace Exchange, a cross-cultural program in peace stud-ies for aspiring young adult leaders.
