From the Paradise Ballroom Foyer on the 6th floor, either take the parking garage elevator or the stairs down one floor to Windgate Hall.

Beacon Building Meeting Rooms Compass Rose Ballroom: On the 7th floor of Anchor Building (floor above the Main Lobby) go down the Boardwalk, past all of the shops, down three flights of stairs to the Beacon Building Landing. At the Landing, take the short flight of carpeted stairs going up. The Compass Rose Ballroom is on the left. Island: On the 7th floor of Anchor Building (floor above the Main Lobby) go down the Boardwalk, past all of the shops, down three flights of stairs to the Beacon Building Landing. At the Landing, take the short flight of tile steps down, go past the entrance of Fin City Bowling. Proceed down the ramp, turn right and go straight ahead into Island. Escape: On the 7th floor of Anchor Building (floor above the Main Lobby) go down the Boardwalk, past Margaritaville Store. Escape is on the right side of the hallway, across from Wood’n Ya Wanit. Coral Reef: On the 7th floor of Anchor Building (floor above the Main Lobby) go down the Boardwalk, past Wood’n Ya Wanit. Coral Reef is on the left before Lindee’s. Port: On the 7th floor of Anchor Building (floor above the Main Lobby) go down the Boardwalk, past all of the shops, down the flight of stairs. Port is on the right. Starboard: On the 7th floor of Anchor Building (floor above the Main Lobby) go down the Boardwalk, past all the shops, down one flight of stairs. Starboard is on the left. at the far end. Turn left and follow the hallway to Beacon Building. If you are in a mobility assistance device and are unable to maneuver any

amount of stairs, please contact Guest Services at Extension 5 or (573) 348-8623 for assistance.

Driftwood Meeting Rooms Northwinds: Take the escalator or elevator from the Main Lobby to the catwalk to Edgewater Building. Cross the catwalk, walking to the 3rd level of Edgewater Building. Go left at Edgewater Building’s main corridor and exit into the stairwell. Exit the building using the door on your left. Go across the road and into Driftwood Building, entering through the double glass doors on your left. Northwinds is straight ahead. Driftwood: Take the escalator or elevator from the Main Lobby to the catwalk to Edgewater Building. Cross the catwalk, walking to the 3rd level of the building. Speakers

Christopher Borgman, OD, FAAO, is an assistant professor at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry. Following graduation, Dr. Borgman completed a one-year residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at the Illinois College of Optometry/Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to joining SCO, Dr. Borgman spent three years in a private ophthalmology practice in Des Moines, Iowa, which specialized in ocular disease, cataract and laser refractive surgery. He has authored numerous articles published on the topics of various ocular disease conditions, and has lectured nationally and internationally

Joe DeLoach, OD, FAAO, works in private practice, as the medical director of one the nation’s largest optometric referral centers, and a Clinical Professor at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He serves as the college’s director of multiple inner city charity clinics, which provide medical eye care services for more than 8,000 indigent patients each year. He is a noted lecturer on ocular disease, billing and coding, and health care compliance. He has received every award given to a Texas optometrist including the coveted Distinguished Service Award and Armistead Teaching Award. He is President and CEO of Practice Compliance Solutions, a company providing medical compliance, insurance billing, record audits and practice management services.

Jason Lake, OD, has a BS from Kansas State University and his OD from SCO. He serves as President and CEO of Eyecare Specialties which has offices in Warrensburg, Sedalia, Lee’s Summit and Clinton, MO. Dr. Lake is often asked to speak on the subject of vision, practice management and related topics at conventions, optometric meetings, optometry schools and radio interviews. He is a member of the MOA and AOA, a past president of the MOA and MOPAC chair, president and board member for the Missouri Optometric Association Insurance Agency.

Mary Schmidt, ABOC, CPO, is the President of EyeSystems. She is also an ABO certified optician and a CPO accredited paraoptometric. She has more than 37 years’ experience within the optical field including ten years of hands-on in experience, practice administration for multi-doctor practices, outside sales and marketing. She has trained thousands of paraoptometrics, opticians, and practice managers. She was voted one of Vision Monday’s 50 Most Influential Women in Optical.

Speakers

Angel Novel Simmons, OD, obtained her Doctor of Optometry from UM-St. Louis College of Optometry. She has pursued specialized training in Ocular Disease Management/Primary Care through an accredited residency program at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System in Montrose, NY. Currently, she precepts College of Optometry students at community based clinics. She has received the ASCO Diversity Grant in order to create and coordinate the Eyes on Diversity, which seeks to introduce under-represented minority students to the profession of optometry. Dr. Simmons is an active member of the AOA, MOA, SLOS, ASCO Optometry Diversity and Cultural Competency Committee, and Cultural Competency Curriculum Guidelines Subcommittee.

Elizabeth Steele, OD is a Charleston, SC native. She graduated from Wofford College in 1999. After graduating from the UAB School of Optometry in 2003, she completed a residency at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. Dr. Steele joined the UAB faculty in 2004 and has since taught in many courses including Methods, Advanced Clinical Procedures, and Imaging. She currently serves as the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. Dr. Steele has received many teaching awards, including the AOA Educator of the Year Award in 2017. She is also an active volunteer for the profession, serving the ALOA, AOA, and ASCO. In 2009, she was awarded the ALOA Young Optometrist Award, and received the SECO Young Optometrist of the South Award in 2010.

Jim Wieberg established and manages the Center for Mental Welless at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, MO for the last 30 years. He has a post graduate degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri and a post graduate degree in Theology. He is a licensed professional counselor in the State of Missouri. In 1987 he founded a Physician Health Program under the sponsorship of the Missouri Osteopathic Association. He is a member of the Board of the Federation of Physician Health Programs and sits on its Executive Council. He has spent most of his career addressing the needs of distressed practitioners.
