1 8 1 7 Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians) Bicentennial Anniversary 2 0 1 7

On Wednesday, September 27, 2017 a Mass of Thanksgiving in honor of the Bicentennial of the Priests and Brothers of the Congregation of the Mission, founded by Vincent de Paul, was celebrated to give thanks for 200 years of service and ministry in the United States. The community is also celebrating the 400 year anniversary of the found-ing of the charism.

Xavier University Scholarship

To honor our anniversary, charism and heritage in New Orleans the Vincentian Community has established a scholarship at Xavier University to provide assistance for students who have shown an inter-est and commitment to Racial Harmony, Justice and Peace. The Vincentian community has donated $100,000 and is inviting the faithful of New Orleans to make donations to help us reach our goal of $200,000. When construction of the current St. Joseph church was completed, the Vincentians worked with Mother Drexell to set up and minister in the first Black Catholic Parish which was called St. Katherine and located in what is now the Tulane Medical Complex down the street. We appreciate your support.

THE HEAVENLY BANQUET The mountain of the Lord described in today’s first reading is a place where there is no more hunger, no more weeping, and no more division of any kind. We need to pause and ponder these images every now and then, espe-cially given the fact that we live in such a fractured world.

The responsorial psalm continues to paint a picture of a place where only goodness and kindness flourish. These readings describe the heavenly banquet, to which God calls each of us through baptism and continues to call us throughout our lives.

Let us “RSVP” to God’s invitation and live our lives con-sistent with gospel values so that one day we will be wel-comed to the table of the kingdom.

TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading — On this mountain the LORD will make for all peoples a feast of rich food and choice wines (Isaiah 25:6-10a). Psalm — I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life (Psalm 23). Second Reading — God will supply whatever you need (Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20). Gospel — I have prepared my banquet, and everything is ready. Come to the feast! (Matthew 22:1-14
