Duplin Food Pantry: Please bring in donations of the shelf stable items for our local food pantry. Your donations help those within our

community and those who receive it are so grateful.

Choir Invite: The choir will begin practicing for our Christmas concert soon. New voices are welcome. Please think about joining us for this

annual event -- some of you may decide to stay on as permanent members of the choir and we'd love to have you. Please contact Lara (phone number in the bulletin) or see her after Mass if you are interested. Join Us for Journey of Faith!: Are you curious about the Catholic Faith? Is the Holy Spirit calling you to learn more about Catholic Faith? Both Catholics and those inquiring about the faith are welcome to join us on Thursday nights for this joyous journey of faith. We will begin on September 28th at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall. We will be using a new book this year called This Is Our Faith. For more information contact Fr. Roch, Deacon Mike or Patty George. Thank you to those who donated to The Mission to Philippines. We are still collecting summer clothes and shoes for those in need. Please know we can use gentle used clothes, backbacks, and flipflops, please see letter in the vestibule. October is Respect Life month. The theme for this year is “Be Not Afraid”. All life is sacred and must be protected from conception to natural death. No matter what circumstances you are facing in life: storms like hurricanes or internal storms such as addictions, or sickness and suffering or loneliness or caring for a dying loved one or being unexpectedly pregnant or unable to have a child of your own, we can take heart in the Lord’s words, “Do not fear, I am with you.” (Isaiah 41:10) In light of recent tragic events in Las Vegas, let us pray that we may regard all life as sacred. Let us pray for the end of all violence in the world, in our country, and in our communities. May those who died find eternal life and peace in the presence of God, and that those who remain may find healing, consolation, and peace. Please read the bulletin inserts for more information or search the web for: respect life month 2017

Dr Sri provides 5 “keys” to enable Christians to counter with logic and love what Pope Benedict XVI called the “dictatorship of relativism”. He also clarifies the proper understanding of what it means to judge, and the importance of making good judgments. A pot luck supper will follow. Please plan to bring a dish to share. Vocations: The Catholic Church in the United States will celebrate National Vocations Awareness Week, November 5-11, 2017. Save the Date, Catholic Considerations for Our Earthly Passing -As Catholics, we know that death is the door through which we must pass to gain eternal life. Several considerations are provided as starting points for understanding and preparing for our earthly passing in a way that respects God’s gift of human life. Join us Thursday evening October 26th at 7 p.m. at Transfiguration of Jesus Catholic Church for a presentation by Dr. Patrick O’Connell, primary care physician. You will learn… • How the Church has always proclaimed the inherent value and dignity of life at every stage and condition. • The Catholic teaching on the care of patients who are not fully conscious, and what is ordinary care verses extra ordinary care. • Why we must continue to care for one another by providing assisted nutrition and hydration where necessary to preserve life even when a cure is no longer possible. • How the Advance Care Directive differs from the “Living Will”.

Because of our belief and hope in the Resurrection, we can face death not with fear, but with preparation. Please sign up in the vestibule if you are planning to attend, you are also welcome to come at 6 p.m. for a simple Italian dinner prior to the presentation. Tradition teaches us Christ was conceived on the Feast of the Annunciation. We will watch the parallel development of “Thomas” in the womb beginning on March 25 (Feast of the Annunciation) until December 25. The Office of Human Life and Dignity is making available a series of bulletin messages describing the fetal development of “Thomas.” Each week we will send out the messages to the parishes.

October 15 (week 29) Thomas has doubled in size over the last 4 weeks and is getting cramped in the womb. I am about 14 inches tall now and growing really fast. I don’t have as much room to do my exercises. I try to stretch out, and Mom can feel me move about. My muscle tone is getting much better, and my body is filling out with baby fat. You could hear my heartbeat if you put your ear on my mother’s tummy. “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

“On this mountain he will destroy the veil that veils all peoples,” Learn how to put aside the veils and masks that prevent true intimacy with your spouse

by participating in a Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WWME) weekend. The next weekends are: Nov 10-12, 2017 in ATLANTIC BEACH, NC and Feb 2-4, 2018 in Clemmons, NC. Early sign up is recommended. For more information visit our website at: https://NCMarriageDiscovery.org or contact us at [email protected] or 704-315-2144.

The Diocese of Raleigh along with NC Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America has mutually agreed to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Reformation by worshiping together on October 27th at 7:00 p.m. at St Thomas More Church in Chapel Hill, NC. This Common Prayer service will be co-presided by Catholic Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama and Lutheran Bishop Tim Smith, and a Lutheran-Catholic combined choir will lead us in worshiping God. All fellow Catholics are invited to join Bishop Zarama, specially those Catholic-Lutheran couples and families that share their faith traditions on a daily basis. There are many ecumenical efforts at parish levels where Christians from various denominations bear witness to Christ by serving their local communities together, for them this is good time to pray together and to advance Christian unity.
