Zev Winicur, the President of the Indiana Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) has extended an invitation to all AMWA Indiana chapter members to attend STC’s monthly meetings, which are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month and are free and open to the public.

The STC chapter meeting (scheduled for 15 September 2005, 5:30-7:30pm, at the IU Emerging Technology Center, 351 West 10th Street, Indianapolis) featured Linda Sanning, who discussed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (the Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act of 2002, commonly called SOX or Sarbox) and the role of technical communicators in helping companies prepare for SOX compliance. The STC Indiana chapter website can be accessed at http://www.hoosierstc.org/index.php. The monthly Hoosier STC Newsletter, Interface, can be viewed from the website.

Note: Overview of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act from Wikipedia, a free [on-line] encyclopedia: The Sarbanes-Oxley Act was created to protect investors by improving the accuracy and reliability of corporate disclosures and covers establishment of a public company accounting oversight board, auditor independence, corporate responsibility, and enhanced financial disclosure. This Act became law on July 30, 2002, following several widely publicized corporate financial scandals, including Enron, Tyco International, and WorldCom (now MCI). AMWA - Indiana Chapter Newsletter October 4, 2005

From the President

Welcome to the new Indiana chapter year. The 2005-2006 chapter officers were elected at our annual chapter conference in June, and our names and contact information are listed on the website and in this newsletter.

I am a new Hoosier - I moved to Indiana from Canada in November 2000. My family and I love the sunny skies, warm weather, and welcoming Midwesterners. My educational background is in psychology, and prior to moving to Indiana, I worked in clinical and basic research and as a freelance writer. I currently work at Eli Lilly and Company in medical communications. I’ve been an AMWA member since 1998 and have participated in the Indiana chapter since 2002.

Last year, under Elaine Crabtree’s leadership, we offered some great chapter programs, expanded our chapter conference, and revived the chapter website (http://www.hoosieramwa.org/). This year, we want to continue to serve the needs of our chapter members through our chapter meeting programs, chapter conference, and website. But we need your input.

• What would you like to see at chapter meetings? • What workshops would you like to see offered at the chapter

conference? • What can we add to the website to make it more useful?

Please send your ideas to me at [email protected].

From the Editors, “Come, Blow Your [Own] Horns!”

We want to recognize the professional accomplishments of our Chapter members in the newsletter, and to do that, we ask that you let us know about these activities and accomplishments (for example, completion of AMWA, BELS, or other certifications; Conference Presentations, academic achievements).
