TheARRAC UPDATE/OCT. 2011We transformed

pumpkins on Saturday, Oct.29, and we learned thatbeing thick-skinned hasbenefi ts for people andpumpkins. Although, someof the pumpkins were moredried out inside and they didnot carve as easi ly as themoist ones, al l of thepumpkin carvers achievedsuccess in carving faces ontheir pumpkins. Extremeinstructor, woodcarverDylan Goodson, was notkept away by his cold andal l had a great time learninghow to be carvers. As Dylanpointed out with hisexample (see lower right),the most fun pumpkins tocarve are not the perfectlyshaped ones!

Whi le sharp tools were wielded in the VanGogh Room; glue, gl i tter, and feathers ruled in theMonet Room. There l i ttle creators could createwondrous things by adding to, not cutting away partsof their (plastic) pumpkins. You might say the mixedmedia col lage technique reigned in this room.Whatever you cal l i t, i t was fun!

The ARRAC Board ofDirectors met Oct. 23. The Boardmeets the 3rd Sunday of eachmonth.

Chilton County Arts CouncilWelcomes ARRAC at Artists' Showcase

Frank Sullivan demonstrated traditional coil-building of a jug.

We were welcomed with open arms at Chi l ton

County Arts Counci l ' s fi rst event in the Clanton

Conference and Performing Arts Center located on

Jefferson State Community Col lege's campus.

An arti st could get spoi led exhibi ting this way: no

wind, indoor heat, a snack bar across the aisle, and great

music to throw pots by. As evidence of this, Frank Sul l ivan,

ARRAC's Executive Director, bui l t a 12" tal l coi l jug over

the course of the two-day event; meanwhi le, Sharon Ervin

and Marty McIntyre talked with visi tors.

We met a lot of wonderful people in the Chi l ton

County area who are as exci ted as we are about the arts.
