provide palliative care

to cancer patients

through a mobile unit

at Bhopal. The Budget

of the programme is Rs

20, 00,000. The

agreement was

signed by Dr.

Bhopal. The aim of the

project is to ensure

relief of pain with the

help of trained doctor,

nurses and councellor,

by putting the patients

in a comfort zone,

through a holistic

approach comprising,

physical,

Psychological, emotional and spiritual support. Thus, it is ensured that cancer patients live the rest

of their life with self-esteem and dignity. Mrs. Inderjit Pannu, President GCCI on this occasion,

spotlighted the multipronged cancer-care work of GCCI.

The number of Cancer patients has steeply multiplied during the past couple of years in Punjab. A door to door survey covering almost 98% of the population conducted from Oct. 2012 to Dec. 2012 by Health Department, Punjab found that incidence of Cancer in Punjab is higher than the national and international average. Malwa region has emerged as the epicenter of the disease but it is also

spreading in other parts of Punjab. In view of the need, Global Cancer Concern

India is going to launch a holistic Mobile Palliative Homecare Services for cancer patients at Ludhiana on 1st of Oct’13, with the support from GAIL (India). In this context, an agreement was signed by Dr.

Gupta, DGM, CSR of GAIL (India) on 20th

September, 2013 at the corporate office of GAIL

(India) in New Delhi. The value of the project is Rs

16.50,000. Dr. Sampurna, Director, Programmes

of GCCI and Mr. C S Majita, Chief Manager, CSR

of GAIL (India) were present on this occasion.

In view of the high incidence of cancer

and the problems encountered by the

cancer patients, GCCI launched a

Mobile Palliative Care Unit in Ludhiana

on 26th Sept, 2013 with the objective of

providing free Palliative Care to poor

cancer patients at their doorsteps.

GAIL is supporting this project. On this

occasion, a press conference was

organised at Ludhiana which was

attended by a large no. of media

persons from print and electronic media.
