It is an exciting time to be a part of the secondary school. Whether you are
a freshman who is still learning the ropes, or a veteran senior who is
looking toward the future, the Guidance Department is there to help you
every step of the way. Our new guidance counselor, Mrs. Ludy Joseph, is
determined to help our students succeed and achieve their higher
education goals. This year, our high school students can look forward to
various on and off campus opportunities to explore the endless
possibilities available to them. One notable addition to the secondary
calendar are the Collegiate Roundtable visits. Every Tuesday, a
college/university admissions representative visits our campus to speak to
our juniors and seniors about the latest admissions requirements. These
gatherings expose our students to a wealth of valuable information
regarding the application process, financial aid, SAT/ACT, résumés,
honors/merit programs, and program deadlines. The following
universities have visited our campus thus far:
University of Miami
Barry University
Trinity International University
Florida International University
Liberty University
University of Florida
Our next scheduled activity is the National Association for College
Admission Counseling Fall College Fair on Tuesday, October 21. During
this time, students will have an opportunity to speak with representatives
from over 250 colleges and universities from around the nation. For more
information regarding upcoming activities, please refer to the Guidance
Calendar on the left, or contact the Secondary Office at 305-827-8722.

No Bones About It,
Dr. Garcia’s Anatomy Students Are the Best!
As a class assignment, Dr. Garcia’s anatomy
students had to research and create three-
dimensional models, as well as life-size posters
of the various systems in the human body.
This was a wonderful hands-on activity that
reinforced what the students had learned in
class.

WWWrrriiittteeerrrsss''' CCCllluuubbb iiisss BBBaaaccckkk!!! During last month’s 2014-2015 Writers' Club kick-off, the two presidents, Luis Goberna and Heather Rodriguez, were announced. Both seniors expressed their excitement and shared their ideas for the club's future. Writers' Club allows students from 9th to 12th grade to come together and to express their creative side. Each semester, the students are required to enter at least one writing contest. Contests range from poetry, to persuasive writing, journal entries, historical writings, and much more. Last year, the club's works were published into a book that was displayed at Barnes & Noble during DCS night. Writers' Club is a fantastic way to develop and polish your writing skills. We are still accepting applicants at this time and hope to see more students at our next meeting. Writers' Club meets every other Tuesday in the cafeteria, during lunch. If you have any questions, feel free to ask the club’s sponsor Mrs. Baldatti or its presidents, Luis Goberna or Heather Rodriguez.

place to worship
God and connect

focus is to expose
students to the
Gospel, inspire

make a difference in
the world for Jesus.

In the month of October, our secondary
students started a new series entitled
HIStory. The students have been hearing
stories from selected men and women of
God about how their lives have been
renewed through Christ. Our verse is 2
Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation; old things
have passed away; behold, all things
have become new.” Secondary
Chapels take place every Wednesday at
9:25 AM in the auditorium.

Hispanic Heritage Month
On Friday, October 10, DCS’s Spanish Club
members celebrated Hispanic Heritage
Month by dressing in the native garb of
various Hispanic cultures and hosting a
luncheon featuring Latin fare, including ropa
vieja, moros, and tostones! This month is a
time when many Latin American countries
celebrate their independence. It is also an
opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the
diverse Hispanic cultures in our
communities. Sponsored by Mrs. Ponce and
Mrs. Castro, the Spanish Club is host to 47
members. Students meet weekly to prepare
for activities and educational field trips
throughout the year. Up next is a visit to the
Univision studios in Doral! 4
We are excited to announce that our
phenomenal choir students have been
invited to sing during the Candlelight
Processional and Massed Choir
Program at Disney’s Epcot theme
park. On December 18, our students
will perform 14 songs during the fifty
minute performance, which presents
“A Christmas Story” through song
and narration by a celebrity guest
narrator. Our group will join a 275
voice choir of performers from around
the world! We are so proud of our
choir students and know they will do
a fantastic job representing the DCS
Fine Arts Department.
