Welcome to the first revamped Scotland Campus Newsletter!

This newsletter is to help keep you “in the know” with what is

happening on campus and is almost completely written by

students at one of our partnering organizations, Global Vision

Christian School (GVCS). (With some help from Scotland Cam-

pus Staff, of course!) Check out stories about recent events,

sports, and an interview with a member of the Scotland Campus

Community. Have thoughts or ideas about what you want to see

Finally October has begun, meaning fall is here. The weather is becoming a bit chilly.

In the summer, the campus was surrounded by verdant scenery, but now vibrant

leaves of red, orange, and yellow are falling from the trees. The campus looks as

though it is a scene from a drama. In Korea, people seldom see this kind of scenery,

so this is something special about Scotland Campus. Recently, since the weather has

been very cold, most people have been tucking themselves in warm and padded jack-

ets, unable to see their surroundings. But, since fall has come, we have all become

interested in the changing scenery. Also, as the days go by, we can gradually feel fall

changing to winter, which feels exciting!

Who’s Who at Scotland Campus: Graham Messner By Yeojin Kim Position: Development Offi cer

1.What are your responsibilities at Scotland Campus?

My primary job is to raise money for the Scotland Campus from individu-als and businesses so that it can continue to grow and thrive. Without these funds, it’s impossible for the campus to exist due to the amount of capital needed to upgrade the campus infrastructure-water and sewer lines, roads and additional parking. I also inform the local community about all the new businesses and fresh faces that are breathing new life into the campus.

2. Where are you from? Have you always lived near Scotland Campus? I graduated from Shippensburg University, BA Public Relations. I have lived in Chambersburg my entire life and spent lots of time on campus as a kid, playing in the gyms, swimming in the pools and just playing with kids from Scotland School.

3. What is your favorite part about being part of Scotland Campus?

The best feeling is knowing you are part of something that is so important to the community as a whole and I think all of us from the various Christian organizations feel that spirit as well. I have been working with the head of development, Dennis Koontz, since Sept. 1, 2015 and we are forging ahead with plans for a $5.7 million campaign to begin this winter. It's exciting on so many levels and we look forward to seeing all our Christian partners grow and evolve. 4. Anything else you’d like to share?

I want people to know that they are welcome on campus and that it is a community asset and not just private property. We have meeting spaces for businesses and weddings and welcome anyone with interest to contact us so we can give them a tour of all that we have to offer as we bring new life to an historic campus.

everything was small. It was so lovely and cute! Alice explained that the brownies had made

us grow giant. Finally we went into the fake gar-

den, where we could play golf using balloon fla-

mingos. When we went to our seats, there were lots of sandwiches and scones. I was so happy.

There was also a contest for the person who was

wearing the best hat, and a chance to take our

picture with the characters of Alice in wonder-land. When it was time to go home, they gave us a

beautiful party favor. It was mini teapot and Al-

ice’s necklace. This tea party was my first tea party

ever. It was so memorable and fun. The next tea party theme will be Nemo and the Little Mer-

maid. So I will try to buy fish clothes! I made a lot

of good memories from this tea party and I want

to join the next one too!

SPORTS CORNER: GVCS/BCA SOCCER

Soccer season is over. Our team had 5 Kore-

ans, 5 Chinese, and 9 Americans. Our

coach, Scott Cox of Broadfording Christian

Academy (BCA) and Next Level Soccer,

worked hard with us for 2 months. We had 14 league games, and we won 4 of those.

Unfortunately in our tournament, we lost in

the first game. But we still ended up in the

top 8 teams. During the soccer games and practices, we became closer to our Chinese

and American teammates, so our English

skills developed greatly and we shared in

each other’s cultures too. Sometimes, we shared meals together. After the home

game with Grace Academy, we ate together

in the BCA cafeteria. There, we learned

from our teammates how our American friends eat food at home. During the soccer

game, we were glad to see Korean friends in

other schools, but a few times we had rough

physical contact with members of other teams, and had arguments. But we prayed

before the game and after the game, with

some team members also sharing their fa-

vorite Bible verses. We argued, but after the game we practiced forgiveness and blessing.

Those were happy moments. This season,

our team was the youngest team in our

league, so we didn’t do as well as we would

have liked. Next year though, I believe our team will be able to do much better!

DID YOU KNOW?

Scotland Campus hosts Next Level Soccer, an organization dedicated to helping kids hone their soccer skills.

Scotland Campus is happy to have a partnership with BCA/GVCS USA; students live in the residential area and take clas-ses M-W-F in the WTS Education and Conference Center.

a giant tree. It was dark inside the tree,

and there were playing cards and clocks on the wall. When we went further inside,

there were the signs on a table that said

‘Drink Me’ and some little potions. “Alice”

told us we needed to drink those potions. We drank the potions, waited a few sec-

onds, and then Alice told us to walk on.

When we walked a little bit, suddenly we

came to a room where the things were so large and big. Alice told us it is because we

shrunk. We of course played along. Next,

we found the signs that read ‘Eat Me,’ and a

plate of small, delicious brownies. We walked further and found a room where

EVENTS: MAD HATTER TEA By Uijin Kim

Hello! Today I will introduce an tea party that happened at Scotland Cam-

pus on October 3, 2015. The tea party’s theme was Alice in Wonderland,

presented by Kristtany Tea. I am familiar with that book and movie so I was very interested in this tea party. Before the start of the party, the staff

members led by Terri Hurst prepared many things. Many people came

from far away to attend and all dressed up nicely. Boozer Hall was deco-

rated to look like the world of Alice in Wonderland. The March Hare, Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, Cheshire Cat, Caterpillar, and the main

character Alice were all there. When we entered Boozer Hall, the March
