We’re heading to Ventura County to go wine tasting? Why yes, because there really is a Ventura County Wine Trail and there are some pretty decent wines being produced in Ventura County. So on Saturday 9/16/15, some of the most beautiful Corvettes in Southern California, lead by a not as beautiful Ford Focus, headed south (instead of north this time) from

Carpinteria to check out the Ventura County Wine Trail. There are no vine-yards in Ventura County – most of the wineries get their grapes from Lodi and the Santa Ynez Valley. And there are no glamorous wineries located on spectacular grounds – no, most of the wineries are located in industrial areas. However, once we stepped through the doors of Magnavino Winery in Oxnard, we were transported into a lovely Tuscan style patio. The interi-or of this place is pretty remarkable. We sipped and savored several wines and we were even the very first people to sample one of their GSM blends as it was just released on Saturday in honor of the winery’s 5th anniversary. They were nice enough to hold the wine we purchased while we visited the other wineries and invited us to come back and enjoy their anniversary par-ty when we picked up our wine. Our next stop was next to the railroad tracks in Ventura at Plan B winery (everyone has a plan B, right?). Well, the owners of this winery defi-nitely have a Plan B - as their alternative to re-tirement. As we bid a fond farewell to Summer and welcome in Fall, some of us are excited that football season is now in full swing, for others it’s the fall classic, the World Series. However I’m sure you all have noticed how the weather has turned brisk and we can hear the crunch of the frost under foot as we cross our lawn in the morning. What paral-lel universe are you living in Peter? This is Santa Barbara. Oh yea, slight mental lapse. Oops. Either way the year is winding down with only a few events remaining. The 24th of Octo-ber will be our visit to the Magic Castle. Due to the proximity to Halloween, costumes are encouraged but not mandatory. For those who are not in costume, the standard dress code is in effect. November is still wanting for an event but December 5th will be our annual Christmas

Dinner, always a great event and the final run of the year is the Queen Mary Brunch Run on the 13th. In the next month or so Tony will be hosting a get together for the purpose of planning events for next year. This is your opportunity to send in your suggestions for something brand new you think the club would enjoy or suggesting we try something we have done in the past you particularly enjoyed. I ran across the site below which has previews of the mid-engine. http://www.corvetteblogger.com/2015/07/10/pic-the-mid-engined-c8-corvette-zora-zr1-rendered/ The big question is will it actually be built this time. Have you ever wondered “Should I be driving, after all I only had two glasses of wine?” I’m a lightweight so with two glasses of wine my keys are in someone else’s pocket. Tuesday’s meeting should give us all a bet-ter idea. Officer Casey Corbit from the SBPD will be giving a talk on driving while under the influence and driving while tired, which I understand can be just as dangerous. I would like a couple of volunteers to be tested before having any drinks. Officer Corbit will be testing you before and as the evening progresses. It would be nice to have individuals with different physical characteristics as well as some who are regular wine drinkers versus those who only drink occasionally. If you will be helping make sure you have a designated driver. See you all Tuesday evening, Oct. 6th at 6:30 at the Mesa Café. Arrive early so you can chat with old friends or to get acquainted with new members. Please bring and wear you name tags, it helps in getting acquaint-ed.

NCM Master Ambassador Frank LoMonaco CONGRATULATIONS are in order... again. I have the great pleasure of announcing that we've done it again! Well, not we but... he, our fabulous newsletter editor/webmaster, Fred Smith. Our club website, that Fred designed and manages, was entered into the yearly National Corvette Museum contest for Best Website. Out of the many, many club websites from across the country that were entered into the contest - and many of the clubs are much larger than ours - our website took FIRST PLACE this year! This is the fourth award that our club has been given from the Museum: in 2010 our club newsletter won 1st place; in 2013 our club news-letter won 2nd place; in 2014 our club website won 3rd place and now... because of the fabulous job Fred does... our club website has won First Place. Congratulations Fred!! Thanks so much for the wonderful job you do for our club.

And thanks to the great participation of our club members in the National Corvette Caravan last year and the generosity of all CCSB club members throughout the year, I have again achieved the status of Master Am-bassador. For those of you who do not know, points are awarded to Ambassadors for such things as club members participating in Museum events such as the caravan, taking Museum deliveries of their new Corvettes, and supporting the Museum through becoming a member or the purchasing of raffle tickets. In order to be an Ambassador to the NCM, I must maintain a certain number of points each year. There are two levels of Ambassador awards: Ambassador and Master Ambassador. To be elevated to Mas-ter Ambassador I must earn many more points than are necessary for an Ambassador award. So thanks again to all of you for supporting me and the National Corvette Museum and making sure that I maintain my status as a Master Ambassador. Be sure you let me know if you become a member of the National Corvette Museum (and I encourage you to do that), purchase any raffle tickets, visit the Museum or take delivery of your new car at the Museum so I can keep track of the points I need to earn for next year's Master Ambas-sador award. Thanks again for your support.

Our next stop was Millesime in Camarillo. Brittany Rice is the winemaker here and is the daughter of the winemaker of Sunstone winery in the Santa Ynez Valley. On her 12th birthday Brittany helped to plant the first Merlot grapes at Sunstone winery. But she headed off to college to major in fine art & photography, and then she at-tended culinary school which led to an internship at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara. However winemaking was in her blood and eventually she decided on a career in winemaking. She may have learned the winemaking business from her father, but she does have her own unique style. We realized this was no ordi-

nary winemaker we were dealing with when the 1st wine served was Orange Muscat. As most of you wine aficionados know, Orange Muscat is typically a sweet dessert wine and when wine tasting, the sweet dessert wines are always the last wines of the tasting flight. However, this Muscat was a refreshing light wine, perfect for a lovely summer afternoon. Our final stop of the day was Strey Cellars back in Oxnard (right next door to where we started at Mag-navino). Katie and her winemaker husband Scott, have the idea to “stray from the norm”. The winery is fresh and modern with pops of color and concrete counters. Scott has a particular soft spot for Zinfandel and most of his grapes come from the Lodi appellation. Like Plan B, Strey also had some fermenting going on and they were awaiting another shipment of grapes scheduled to arrive late on Saturday evening. Thanks to Hib & Sandy Halverson, Frank & Barbara LoMonaco, Barry & Doreen Ross, Jim & Judy Wafer, Thore Edgren & Patty Brown and Marylyn Bruce & Lark Stevens for joining us on this run – a grape time was had by all!!!

On 24 September, Hib and Sandy Halverson welcomed a new "baby" into their fleet. To cele-brate their 8th Anniversary, they bought a Crystal White, '16 Cadillac ATS-V from Bunnin Chevrole-t/Cadillac in Santa Barbara. It's not your "Grandma's Cadillac," either. It's the BMW busting, V-series with the 3.6-liter 464-hp twin-turbo V6, the paddle-shifted eight-speed au-tomatic, Electronic Limited Slip Differential and MagneRide. The Halverson's new Caddy is fun, very fast, very cool and, to Sandy's great satis-faction, she finally has a car with...heated seats. 3-series BMW drivers, small Benz drivers and Audi S-series drivers, look out, there's a Cadillac drafting you!

Congratulations to Rich and Mary Nohr. Nohr's Auto Haus has been voted Best Auto Repair in the Santa Ynez Valley News Best of the Valley 2015.

Ray Seider also picked up his Torch Red C7 Z06 Coupe at the National Corvette Museum and sent in this bit on his experi-ence: For the second year in a row I traveled to Kentucky for the Mu-seum Delivery. Last year I thought I had it all when I picked up my 2014 C7 and traveled home with Mary Sue by my side. Af-ter reading more about the Z06 I just had to have one and be-tween selling my C7 to a very willing buyer, Gretchen Falvo, and selling my 68 Camaro off I went. Once again I ordered the car from the East Coast because of the time frame. From the day I ordered the car it took only 5 ½ weeks for completion. Upon arrival at the Museum, 7:30 am,

my buddy Bob Malone, and I were treated like kings. Turned out we had the same museum representative as last year. We head-ed across the highway to the factory along with 2 other couples that were taking delivery. Walking inside the entrance our Cor-vette Club Santa Barbara patch sits pretty much front and center in a showcase. The other four people had a different rep so we had our tour pretty much privately with just the rep and us. The plant tour takes about 2 hours and you never get tired of seeing all the MAGIC going on right before your eyes. There is a special “clean room” where the Z06 engines are built but you can only look through the glass. Each engine is completely built by only one person who stays with it from start to finish. After the tour it’s back to the museum where I sent Bob off to tour that facility since I’ve done it twice before. My rep then took me through the few new items that were different from the C7. Most changes are in the electronics and Navigation screen which is now 3D and color. The car also comes with a front camera which will record all the information you need for racing.

We took the northern route back across US70 so Bob could visit his dad’s hometown just north of Kan-sas City. My top speed, after crossing from Colorado into Utah was 135. I wanted to try for 150 but decided that was enough. Anyone wanting to choose the Museum Delivery can talk to me about some really fun small highways for the trip back.

A week or so back, I received a letter from Chevrolet advising me that our 2008 Corvette was being recalled to conduct “a voluntary emission recall”. It further stated that it “may be emitting air pollutants in excess of the California vehicle emission standards”. As I read down the page it stated I should do this as soon as possible and that if I did not do it it would result in me being unable to renew the DMV registration. Well being the curious type I am, I started looking around the net. Nothing was on GM Authority nor any other news media I could find. I searched the forums and there is a discussion about the letter and the results when you take the car in but nothing that explains why this is. The good part is that Chevrolet replaced both Catalyst Converters and the pipes including the H pipe back to the mufflers. I am not sure but I also think they added two pre-cats. I don’t recall seeing them before. The process did require they have the car for the day but I imagine at least part of that time was to let the exhaust cool down enough to work on it. There was no cost to me and I don’t see or hear any difference in how the car runs or sounds. Apparently there should be a noticeable increase in performance (according to the service manager at Para-dise). I have only driven it from the dealership to get gas and I put it back on the lift. While at Paradise I noticed they have several C7’s in stock. One is a red Z06 and the rest of them are stock Stingray’s with various interiors. The had Black, Silver, Grey, White and Red that I noticed. Sharon also had the Turbo replaced in her Cruze the day before I took the Vette in and she said she counted 7 C7’s in and around the main entrance to Paradise Chevrolet. On another subject, you will note that Frank LoMonaco has received notice from the National Corvette Museum that Corvette Club Santa Barbara earned the First Place Award for the 2015 Website of the year. He also mentioned the 3 previous Awards the club has earned. He tends to give me the credit for those awards BUT I have to remind eve-ryone that none of that would happen without the efforts of your entire board year after year providing the content in a timely manner. I merely take that content and use the newsletter and the website as the media to keep our members informed. I do thank the National Corvette Muse-um for recognizing us and for the kind words from Frank. Until next month! Be Safe!
