NOTICE OF ELECTION An election will be held at the October 8 General Meeting for the vacant position of Trustee 2
nd
Year. Nominations will be open at that meeting followed by an election. Please consider putting your name forward. If you cannot come to the
General Meeting and wish to run, please contact the Deputy Grand Knight Roberto Pegoraro by email [email protected] With your con-sent you can still participate in the election.
ALSO ITS BUDGET TIME: Bring any sugges-tions to next general meeting.
Hi all, Autumn is here and currently we have lovely weather. Get out and enjoy the time we have before our cold snowy weather arrives. This week, Rob Pegoraro and I along with a number
of parish representatives met 4 of our parish priests. We were able demonstrate that the Knights are their Knights as well, and we are ready and willing to help with parish projects and events. In this month’s Mari-an Call, you will see a list of bible study courses and other parish focused faith initiatives which we sup-port. Please attend any of these, whichever works for you. Our Coats for Kids initiative is taking off. We contrib-
ute to our local endeavour with Bronte Stakeholders on Oct 19 to obtain good used coats or new ones. These will be given to those in most need in our com-munity. In addition, your Council has purchased a box of new coats which we will also distribute to those less fortunate. The forecast is for a longer, snowy and colder winter. Any help is welcomed. We had a number of fabulous activities last month.
Beer Butt chicken was a huge success. Lots of food, talk and even dancing. Congratulations to Arthur and his group of volunteers for this annual event. Conor and Amiel attended the fire department family event and demonstrations. It was super. I didn’t know this place existed and it really was fabulous to see. Thanks to our helpers from local area schools who worked with the popcorn and to McDonalds who pro-vided cups when we ran out of bags. The car wash and test drive event at Lockwood Kia was likewise very successful with a line up of cars waiting for the
wonderful volunteers from the Knights of Columbus to brighten up their car and day! Thank you to all who donated their time and who participated in the wash or test drive. Our big golf event of the
year the Si-Mac Tourna-ment, had a big upset this year as the multi-year champion Pat Zak team was displaced from their throne by the Salis family team. From all accounts it was a great day of broth-erhood and fun organised by PGK Andrew Eckstein. We have our curling bonspiel coming up It is always
an excellent time. Speak with Leo Topolniski if you wish to participate. I am away in South Africa for the next three weeks and will be unavailable to attend the next General Meeting. Roberto Pegoraro will be taking on my du-ties. Thanks so much Rob. He has taken on so many roles this past few months. We are only effective when we have your ideas and assistance. Please find some time in your busy schedule and help out. Talk with a member of your executive. See you when I return from vacation.
Vivat Jesus,
Bob Grouchy,
Grand Knight

MARIAN LADIES Hello Ladies On behalf of all the Ladies that attended our fall barbecue / pot luck, I would like to thank Bill Rennie and Amiel Bekkers for barbecuing our steak and chicken. The meat was done to perfection. I also want to thank Conor Boyd for bartending again for us. We en-joyed good food and friendship while so-cializing with new and old friends. Thank you to all who cane out. We will be looking forward to Conor grac-ing us with his presence at our Christmas gath-ering. Our Christmas wine and finger foods night will be on December 9
th at 6:30pm. I will
have more in the next newsletter. I would like to encourage all wives and widows to join us. We have a lot fun, usually good food, sometimes a glass wine and best of all good friendship. We meet 3 times a year, May Sep-tember and December. Membership is $10.00 a year and usually paid at the September meeting.
Let’s give thanks for all that we have this Thanksgiving. Please remember all our mem-bers and their families in your prayers. I would like to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Irene Sillius [email protected] 905-844-2630 .
WINTER COATS & SCARFS: The Bronte Village Stakeholders Community Coat Redistribution Day will run for the 8
th year
on October 19, 2019. St. Dominic is a founding member of this organization together with Church of the Epiphany and Walton United Church. We have had a very successful Redistribution Day each year – giving out approximately 1,000 coats to new and happy owners at the rate of one coat per person in attendance – it’s a very busy day! – contact Rod Rafauli at 905 691 4700.
FALL REST “BEER BUTT CHICKEN” Another record attendance this year with an ex-cellent meal and live music throughout. Columbus Hall was once again very professionally laid out by organiser Br. Arthur O’Sullivan and his cohort of volunteers and school-going servers. What a wonderful event with many large groups and fami-lies pictured below:

FAITH DEVELOPMENT AND BIBLE STUDY PROGRAMS IN OUR PARISHES
In our journey to get closer to Christ and our faith, many of our Parishes offer faith develop-ment and bible study programs. Attached is list of programs in our parishes. It will be up-dated periodically. We encourage our Brother Knights to take part, enrich your faith, and get closer to the Church and to God.
What is it? Disability income insurance helps replace lost income when you are unable to work due to a disability re-sulting from an illness or accident. Who needs it? Disability income insurance helps protect your most important financial asset – your paycheck – so it should be an important part of every family’s planning. Long-term disa-bility is much more common than other unfortunate circumstances that are commonly covered by insurance. Consider the fact that you face a 1 in 100 risk of losing your home to a fire
[1], but a 1 in 4 risk of suffering a long-term disability
Despite the odds and the prevalence of long-term disability – nearly 11 million Americans are receiving federal disability benefits more than 100 million Americans are without pri-vate disability income insurance..In addition, any disability income insurance you may have through your employer may very well be insufficient or contingent on circumstances How does it work? Knights of Columbus disability income insurance policies provide a monthly benefit amount over the course of a maximum benefit period (see below) designed to help re-place the income that you would have otherwise received if you were able to work. You are free to use your disability income benefits in whatever way you see fit – just like you would with your own paycheck. Knights of Columbus Disability Income policies also come with special features, such as the total, partial, or presumptive disability income benefits, which help protect against special circumstances. As an add-ed bonus, our disability income insurance policies come with a waiver of premium provision, which waives your policy’s premiums while you’re suffering from a disability.
