WHY AN INTERFAITH INSTITUTE ON CHILDREN?

At a United Nations Special Session on Children, five years ago, young people said,"We want a world fit for children, because a world fit for children is fit for everyone. We are not expenses; we are investments. You call us the future, but we are thepresent as well. We are people and citizens of this world."

This eighth Casagrande Interfaith Institute will consider children as mystery, gift, and hope.

THE CASAGRANDE INSTITUTE FOR INTERFAITH CONVERSATIONDorothy and Harry Casagrande of Ozone Park, New York infused their family life, neighborhood, and workplaces with love, care and compassionate justice. Dorothy, ateacher, and Harry, an accountant, shared a common vision: they saw God in humanity.Conversely, humanity saw God in them. Tirelessly, they initiated endeavors forcharitable giving to the health, education, and pastoral ministries of the Daughters ofWisdom. They died in Connecticut in 1998. Their generosity makes this annualInterfaith Institute possible.

The logo for the Casagrande Institute expresses the verse from the Book of Proverbsof the Hebrew Scriptures: Wisdom has built her house; she has set up her seven pillars. (9,1)Wisdom’s house is the community of persons gathered by the Holy One. Her house issupported by the seven pillars of understanding, devotion, compassion, wisdom, mysticism, service and justice.

The logo was designed by artist and calligrapher Elizabeth A.White-Pultz, of New York City, NY.

“You may give them your love but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts. You may housetheir bodies but not their souls. For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, even in your dreams.” — “On Children”, from The Prophet, Kahlil Gibran, 1923.
