INCREASE OUR FAITH

At times in our life we find ourselvesin a situation which we face someproblems or some difficult, dauntingand trying moment. Well there arethose who find it hard to go on orsimply show the white flag. They failto continue, calling it quits or theyfalter in the midst of their work andtheir responsibilities. This is becausethey are lacking in faith- faith inthemselves and in God. If we lack inourselves and in God we can not at-tain or achieve what we want or de-sire in life.This kind of situation was also expe-rienced by the disciples as they triedto follow their Master and work withHim. As they followed Him they sawthat many people around were not lis-tening to them and how they werebeing ridiculed, maligned or rejectedand even threatened by them. Theyfound their mission or undertaking ahard thing to do so that they wereunnerved by all this. There was amoment when they felt like fallingback if not being cowed into submis-sion. Yes, they were tuning tail.Their situation is revealed in today’sGospel in which they ask Jesus to in-crease their faith which is most likelyflagging and wavering. This just tellsus that faith comes from God. It isgrace from God, a gift from Him. Inreply Jesus tells them that if they havethe faith the size of a mustard seedthey could command a mulberrythree to uproot itself and have itselfthrown into the sea and it will obeythem. A mustard seed is a small seedbut it eventually grown into a bigtree. The Lord statement with regard

to the mulberry tree should not betaken literally but rather figuratively.Surely we have not yet heard of a treeuprooting itself and throwing itself,have we?It means that with faith many a won-derful or seemingly impossible thing canbe made to happen or can be achieved.There was man who wanted to see thebeautiful sunrise in the morning buthe could not do it because of a hellobstructing his view. He could onlysee the sun at 7 or 8 a.m. and so hewould miss seeing the gorgeous lampof heaven slowly revealing the hillsand plains. In his enormous and ar-dent desire to see the rising sun he gothis tools and started to dig.A friend who was passing by askedhim what he was doing. “I will re-move this high hill so that I mayhave a plain view of the breathe-tak-ing sunrise,” he replied. “You musthave gone nuts. How can it be pos-sible. You may die without seeingyour dream come true,” the friendsaid. “It is not impossible. It maynot be finished before I die but I be-lieve that my children are there tocontinue what I have embarked onand if they will not live to see thedawn, my grandchildren and mychildren’s grandchildren will con-tinue the work until the dream is re-alized,” the man declared.This is the kind of faith and desire thatthis man has. To an ordinary eye thislooks impossible but to a man of greatfaith, conviction and vision this canbe possibly done. This man has anabiding faith which he complies withaction and the conviction that some-day his dram in life will be realized.What he desires will be fulfilled be-cause of his faith in himself and faithin God. Faith is but the big and pow-erful force in a man which drives himto do or accomplish something eventhough it may be impossible to many.It is a feeling that one is not alone butGod is with him in the task of doing,hurdling or overcoming somethinghowever big, difficult or formidable itmay seem. Yes, faith is believing andtrusting that God is with us who hasthe power to enable us to do or fulfillall this. It is believing that God willtake care of us or will make thingshappen for us. The Lord said thatwithout Him we could do nothing.If there is one man we can look up toas a model of faith it is no less thanAbraham. It was first in Saharawhere he and his wife Sarah lived.Here he had a flourishing business ofraising sheep which accounted for hisbeing well-off. He and his wife had a

prosperous and stable life yet Godcalled him to go to Canaan where theywould live.This would spell an uncertain futurefor them for the place something theyhad never seen. It might have nograsses or if there were, they mightcontain poisonous weeds all of whichwould mean disaster for a thrivinganimal industry. Besides, there mightbe bandits and robbers they might runinto to threaten their security. Theprospect of all this notwithstanding,Abraham, resolved to cross theRubicon, went to Canaan believingGod would take care of him.Abraham put all his eggs in the bas-ket of faith.With faith we can do something goodfor our community or people. Therewas that man who led a peaceful andbloodless revolution against Britishrule in India. His name was Ma-hatma Gandhi of India. He read theBeatitudes and was fascinated andinspired by it. he who nearly becamea Christian would say: “Stand up forthe truth, sacrifice for it and trust godwithout reservation.” His active butnon-violent way to effect a changeculminated in British rule being endedin India.Faith is not just believing and trustingbut it entails our submission to His will.What does God expect from those whotrust and believe in Him” The prophetMicah said: “God expects from you toact justly.” God wills that those whotrust and believe in Him do what is justand righteous. He wants justice orrighteousness. Yes, Justice or Justi-is.Magti-is ka so that His righteousnesswill prevail. “On the Day of the Lordjustice will flourish.” On the day manwill truly and genuinely trust in Godjustice will triumph. If there is justicethere is peace in our midst.It is also His will that we be His ser-vants. He expects us to love tenderlyand walk humbly as His servants. Themark of a believer is that he is a ser-vant of God. The faith that God ex-pect from us is the kind of faith whichdoes justice. If we have this faith, wecan do something to demolish or leveloff the mountains and hills of prideand selfishness and to uproot povertyand weed out graft and corruption.As one writer once said, “The poorestperson in this world is not the personwho has no money in his pocket butthe person who has no faith, desire andambition in life.” The Gospel challengesus to ask ourselves what kind of faithdo we have. Has it borne fruits? If ithas not, let us ask the Lord to increase

our faith.

Gani asta subong, ang tanan ngamga lamharon nga naga-serbe sa aton parokya, kabahin sangParish Youth Ministry. Amu man sa gihapon ang struc-ture. May nagkalainlain nga mga magagmay nga grupo sunosa ila mga talento kag may ara man mga Catholic youth orga-nizations kag ministries sa kada chapel sa kabarangayan.

Sa subong ni nga mga tinion, gina-reorganize ini nga mgabarangay youth ministries kay isa sila sa mga tagaan gidsang importansya sa aton Kristyanong katilingban. Samtanglamharon pa sila, dapat mangin mabakod ang ila ispiritwalnga pagtubo.
