Middle School Faith Formation Edge, Middle School MinistryThe Edge program is faith formation designed for middle school youth. Edge is for teens in sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Our Edge nights include a teaching on the faith or a teaching on a cultural issue. We have prayer, games, breakout sessions by grade, worship and of course FUN! Edge Nights occur twice a month during the school year on Wednesday nights from 7:00 pm – 8:15 pm in the auditorium.

Our mission is making the love of Jesus Christ known, and leading teens closer to Him and His church. Our goals are for teens to become lifelong disciples, alive and filled with the Holy Spirit to worship God with their lives and minister with their gifts.

We could not make Edge nights possible without the Core Team. Teens, young adults and parents make the ministry what it is. The Core Team leads small groups, talks, games, prayer and much more. They are truly the example of Christ in the teen’s lives. It is a wonderful min-istry to be a part of. Teens in middle school are in such a prime time in their walk with Christ. They are learning about God and how to carry out faith throughout their lives.

WE NEED HELP! No experience is necessary. If you feel a call or pull on your heart to help out, please fill out a volunteer form found on our website or come by the Youth Room! All volunteers need to be VIRTUS trained (please see www.virtus.org).

Questions? Please visit our website www.saintcecilia.org under Lifelong Faith Formation or contact Allison Reynolds, Middle School Youth Ministry or Shelley Garza, Youth Ministry Co-ordinator at the parish office at 713-465-3414.

8 | Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

St. Cecilia Life Long Faith Formation Theme 2018-2019Embracing Christ at Mass: What do you gain? Our Archdiocese has a framework for Lifelong Faith Formation which states the specific points they want us to learn about the faith over our lifetime. They focus on Liturgical life and Liturgical participation. In the first para-graph below they state many of the things we “gain” by regular participation in the Liturgy of the Mass:

Task: 2 - Liturgical Life Strand: 2.3 - Liturgical ParticipationSunday observance, as well as Holy Days of Obligation, includes both participating in the celebration of the Eucharist, an obligation and a joy for the Christian, at the heart of the Church’s life, and entering into a rhythm that balances work with the rest and relaxation of mind and body necessary to avoid becoming a servant to work and a slave to money, and to cultivate one’s familial, cultural, social, and religious lives. 2.2.13

While avoiding an interpretation that forgets Christ’s injunction that, “The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath”, Christians are called to abstain from unnecessary labors and business concerns on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, in order that the worship of God and appropriate rest not be impeded. Moreover, Christians are also called to avoid making unnecessary demands on others, especially the poor, that would hinder them from their observance of the Lord’s Day. 2.3.13

Catholics are called to keep the memorial of the saints, first of all the Holy Mother of God, then the Apostles, martyrs, and other saints on fixed days of the liturgical year, by which the Church shows her union with the litur-gy in heaven. 2.3.14

Liturgical diversity must express fidelity to the common faith and to the sacramental signs that the Church has received from Christ and faithfully preserved by apostolic tradition, signified and guaranteed by apostolic suc-cession. 2.3.15

Liturgical celebrations involve signs and symbols, words and actions, singing and music, and holy images. 2.3.16

Sacramentals dispose believers to receive the chief effects of the sacraments. Sacramentals include blessings, actions such as processions, prayers such as the Rosary, and objects such as holy water, palms, ashes, candles and medals. 2.3.17
