October 9, 2016 Announcements One of the very active United Methodist Women groups here at Longs Chapel is Link #2 and this month this group (who are known for their cooking) will be having a fund raising Soup and Sandwich lunch this Sunday, October 9, from 11:00 until 1:00 in the Fellowship Hall. There will be a variety of homemade soups and sandwiches available for a donation to their Link. This group is very active in serving both our church and the community. Some examples of how the money is used include support for the preschool teach- ers, adopting children each year through Christmas Angels, and supporting Clothes for Kids. All funds from the lunch will go to support these missions. Come join us for great food and fellowship after church. If you have questions about this or any other Link here at Longs Chapel, just call Becky Jarrell at 246-0331. Wednesday Nights in the Sanctuary - Half Truths- Ever wonder what's Biblical and what's not? How to differentiate the truths of the Bible and common every-day sayings as truth is what Wednesday Night in the Sanctuary will be all about October 12-November 9. Join Rev. Laura Jones for this Bible-based, fact-finding journey at 6:15 pm. No book necessary; bring your Bible or use one in the pews. This study will lay the foundation for a sermon series in 2017. This weeks topic: Everything Happens for a Reason.Wednesday Night Acts 2:42 Dinner begins at 5:15 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Pricing: $6 adults/children 12 & older; $4 children ages 5-11 (4 and under eat free); $18 family maximum. This book provides daily Bible readings and meditations for the four-week program to help you experience afresh the joy of serving God through generosity. This months collection is for those items that we still need a few more of: fun childrens sunglasses, toothbrushes, fun socks for both boys and girls, and brightly colored tee shirts. The clothing items are for children ages 5 to 9. These items can be placed in the OCC bin outside either the Sanctuary or the Venue. Mark your calendars for the packing party in the Venue on November 16 at 6:15 pm. This is a joyous night of packing shoe boxes, praying for the children who will receive them, and living sent to needy children all over the world. It is for all ages and you do not want to miss this one. It is the best way to begin the holiday seasonby giving to others. Important Notice: The Highway Department will close a portion of Old Clyde Road for continued work on the highway construction project currently tak- ing place on Hwy. 209. Beginning at 8:00 pm on Sunday, Oct. 16 through 6:00 am on Sunday, Oct. 30, the road will be closed from the stoplight at the corner of Hwy. 209 and Old Clyde Road (by the car repair/sales lot) down to the beginning of our gravel parking lot. Ac- cess to the church parking lot can be made by coming up the other end of Old Clyde Road or by continuing on Hwy 209 past the stoplight to the small road that runs between the houses to the side of the church and comes into our Fellowship Hall parking lot; Hwy 209 will remain open. There will be workers stationed at the entrance of that road to keep the main traffic from using it as a shortcut but they will allow entry if you have business at Longs Chapel (staff, visitors, CEC parents/employees, Trunk Wars participants etc.) Please call the church office at 456-3993 if you have questions about the road closing or access to Longs Chapel UMC.
