Idaho Chapter #49, St Maries Stepping out for Eastern Star It has been a busy summer in our community for Idaho Chapter #49, St Maries Idaho. Where to begin? There is so much to tell. . . We par cipated in the local Relay for Life event on Saturday, August 5th. One of our mem-bers, Candy Pugh, PM and her daughter Jenny Abel helped organize the event. Our Chapter

raised over $700 from dona ons and through the sale of “lap” beads to walk-ers. For a $5 dona on, walkers received a necklace and a bead to commemorate each lap walked. (5 beads equaled 1 mile) It became mo va onal among our mem-bers to stay at least one bead ahead of each other! WP; Candy Pugh, AM; Liz Hughes, WGM-Idaho and John Hughes, WGP – Idaho. Our next community event was on Monday,

September 4 at the Paul Bunyan Days Pa-

rade. We were honored to have the WGM

and WGP of Idaho ride on our float! Well. .

.it helps that they are members of Idaho

Chapter #49. The float was decorated with

bicycles. . the fun symbol for our WGM and

WGP. We also had family members riding

behind the float on their bicycles as well as a

couple of members walking. (pictured le to

right – John Hughes, WGP; Sue Snodderley,

WM; Ellen Hinton, Secretary; Barbara Reddekopp-Grand Ruth (member of Laurel #13); Mason Pugh; and Liz Hughes, WGM.

Also par cipa ng in the parade were John Snodderley-our able-bodied truck driver; Shenelle and Candy Pugh - our walkers; and Lonny and Candy Pugh’s Grandchildren – Ri-ley, Cara, Resor and Joey, our bicycle riders. Our member, Claudia Spooner and her hus-band, Ed were the Grand Marshals for the pa-rade.

We hope this encourages you and your Chapter to get out into your communi es. Let’s show our communi es how much fun we have being a part to our beau ful Order!!!!

Let’s get promoted! Potlatch Chapter #48, Moscow, Idaho Joan Heisch, WM Potlatch Chapter #48, in Moscow, Idaho spent two mornings at the local Farmer’s Market this summer. The Farmer’s Market in Moscow sets up on Main Street every Saturday, May

through October. It is reported that ap-proximately 8000 people per weekend a end the Market. The Masonic Hall en-try just happens to be right on Main Street. . .how convenient!!!! As a local store front on Main Street, we were able to set up an 8 foot table on which we dis-played informa on about Eastern Star and Masons. We had to “McGyver” some flag poles in order to get our banner hung . . .but we got it done!!! Our focus the first weekend, July 15, was raising funds for Regenera ve Medicine

and Moscow Volunteer Fire Department-our First Responder recipients. We also had a one page, double sided informa on sheet about both Eastern Star and Masons. We offered free cookies and fruit-infused water to passers-by. We found that we had to be somewhat pro-ac ve in ge ng people to visit with us. It is amazing how a free cookie and/or free water will get people to come over and talk. We heard a lot of comments of “my grandmother was an Eastern Star” or “does that organiza on s ll exist?” The 10 hours we were at the booth on these two weekends enabled many of us to work on and perfect our “elevator speech” explaining Eastern Star. Our next weekend at the Market was August 19. Our focus that weekend was fund raising for Moscow Volun-teer Fire Department, Service Dogs, and Idaho WGM/WGP Special project The Cancer Connec on Idaho. We had a representa ve from Canine Companions for Inde-pendence (h p://www.cci.org) in a endance. Kat Spilde is one of the volunteer puppy raiser (a 14-18 month commitment) and she was present along with her daughter, Adrianna Kauffman, and two service dogs in training, Radar, a one year old Golden Lab and Rosie, a six month old puppy.

We also had a Lanseer Newfoundland

from Au sm Anchoring Dogs (h p://

www.au smanchoringdogs.org/) and her

trainer, Esther Louie. It was amazing

how much easier it was to get people to

stop at our table once we had our four-

legged friends as helpers.

We may not have raised an amazing amount of money. . .about $140. . .but we visited with a lot of passers-by and let them know that Eastern Star is present and ac ve in Moscow, Idaho!
