Corner
The 13th Annual SNRW 9/11 Commemorative Dinner is now history. But, hopefully, the memory still lingers. Father McCollum from St. Gall's Catholic Church gave the invocation, followed by the Douglas High School R.O.T.C color guard being piped in and out by bagpiper Robert Bledsaw. The salute to our Flag was led by the President of the Nevada Federation of Republican Women Carol Del Carlo, and the National Anthem was sung by Anne Goldy. What a wonderful way to start a program. From all reports, the new venue, CVI, did an outstanding job on the ambiance and on our meals. Our MC, Admiral (U.S. Navy Retired) Jack Calvert, did an outstanding job in keeping our program on schedule and kept the audience entertained throughout the evening. Our guest speaker, Colonel (U. S. Army, Retired) Kat Miller gave a very moving presentation, intermixing some humor along with touching and terrifying remembrances of being one of the first military teams to respond to the Twin Towers disaster. Auctioneer extraordinaire Senator James Settelmeyer, with help from his able assistant, daughter Caitlyn, conducted a lively auction, bringing in funds to cover dinner for our special guests - 6 troops from the National Guard, our two Fire Chiefs, our Sheriff, and, of course, our guest speaker.
The Nominating Committee is busily putting together a slate of officers to head SNRW in 2015. Once again, please consider saying yes if you are approached to accept a position on the Board. Even better, call the Nominating Chair, Donna Schehl, and offer to serve. Being on the Board is extremely rewarding and quite enjoyable. The slate will be presented at the October meeting and will be voted on at the November meeting.
Nominations for Entrepreneur of the Year are still open. Certainly you know someone who would be deserving of this award. She only has to be a business owner and a registered Republican. See additional information elsewhere in this Newsletter.
The Nevada Federation of Republican Women will be holding their Fall Board Meeting on November 21 and 22 at the Atlantis Casino in Reno. A dinner is being planned to honor Lt. Governor Brian Krolicki for his years of service to Nevada on Friday night, November 21st. It would be nice to have a good showing from SNRW. Watch for further information in the future.
Summer is now just a memory, and autumn is now in full swing. It's hard to believe that Christmas is just three months away (sorry, I just had to say it....).

The Constitution Committee
Some of you may know Dolly Schreckengost. She is an active Republican, and member of
DCRW. Dolly currently is doing spots entitled “Dolly’s World,” a takeoff on the FOX channel’s
Watter’s World, at the DCRW monthly lunch meetings. Those of us who are DCRW associate
members have thoroughly enjoyed her skits.
Dolly recently found a few hours to staff our Douglas County Republican Headquarters. While
on duty she provided a reading recommendation, The Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn, FrontLIne,
2011. The author describes a connection he sees between ancient Israel’s destruction and
events related to 9/11. He describes these events as “harbingers.”
While a fictional story, the book is based on a biblical prophecy about the destruction of ancient
Israel that was fulfilled in the eighth century BC. The author believes that these 9/11 harbingers
are warnings to America similar to the biblical prophecy.
The book is a best-seller. It has received both acclaim and cautionary remarks. However, even
the critical reviewers appear to concur that the book is a wake-up call to a nation that is
becoming increasing secular. It is food for thought as SNRW recently commemorated 9/11.
Please do not hesitate to pass your reading recommendations to members of the Constitution
Committee. We will, in turn, pass them along in our SNRW newsletter.
RECOMMEDED READIG
Autumnal Equinox 9/23/2014: Facts and Trivia
The autumnal equinox, which marks the first day of fall for the Northern Hemisphere, took
place on Monday (9/23) at 10:29 p.m. EDT. Goodbye summer, hello fall. Trivia: 12 Hours of
Light and 12 Hours of Darkness. While technically true, there is the caveat that sunrise and
sunset are not instant events. Trivia: Watching the Path of the Sun. The sun travels across
the celestial equator, which means shorter days and longer nights for the Northern Hemisphere
while the Southern Hemisphere can celebrate longer days and shorter nights, it will rise due
east and set due west. Trivia: The autumnal equinox also marks the start of six months of con-
tinuous darkness at the North Pole and six months of continuous daylight at the South Pole.
