2016 PCMA/MPI Meetings Industry SummitVisit TRI-CITIES staff attended the 15th Annual PCMA/MPI Meetings Industry Summit on September 15, 2016, at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. The Summit is a collaboration of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Pacific Northwest Chapter and Meeting Planners International (MPI) Washington State Chapter and is attended by more than 300 professional meeting planners and suppliers from throughout the region. The Summit emphasized the skills needed to work in our new economy and included multiple networking platforms, educational sessions and small group discussions, as well as an update on the state of the industry as the keynote presentation.

The Tri-City Regional Hotel-Motel Commission 2017 Budget and Marketing Plan has been submitted to each of the three cities for approval. The Tri-City Regional Hotel Motel Commissioners approved the plan at the Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) meeting held in September. Staff will give formal presentations and request approval from Kennewick, Pasco and Richland City Councils on the following dates: • City of Kennewick - Tuesday, October 11 • City of Pasco - Monday, October 10 • City of Richland - Tuesday, October 18

S.P.O.R.T.S. The Relationship Conference Staff attended S.P.O.R.T.S. The Relationship Conference on September 12-15, 2016, in Overland Park, Kansas. The conference provided a combination of one-on-one appointments with 14 tournament planners, educational sessions and networking opportunities. Visit TRI-CITIES sponsored the registration bags, creating additional brand awareness.

Appointments were conducted with organizations such as Baseball Players Association, USA Crits, USA Volleyball Beach, US Specialty Sports Association, USA Jump Rope and National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Visit TRI-CITIES staff will also attend TEAMS 2016 Conference & Expo, a conference and expo for the sports-event industry, on September 26–29, 2016, in Atlantic City.

Wine aficionados will celebrate grape harvest with Catch the Crush on October 7-9, 2016. As the Heart of Washington Wine Country®, the Tri-Cities region hosts visitors every year thanks to its central location with more than 200 wineries within a one hour drive. Wineries in Tri-Cities, Prosser and Benton City/Red Mountain will observe the annual event with grape stomps, specialty tastings, music, aperitifs, wine dinners and more.

UK Tour Operators WorkshopStaff attended the United Kingdom (UK) Tourism Workshop, a collaboration between the Port of Seattle, Destination British Columbia, Clipper Vacations, Delta Airlines and Rocky Mountaineer, which met on September 19, 2016, at the Seattle Art Museum. The workshop provided information regarding the types of tour experiences UK travelers are interested in as well as the opportunity to conduct face-to-face meetings with the nine North American UK product specialists in attendance. Visit

TRI-CITIES staff presented Tri-Cities regional attractions and hotels as a potential point of interest for a Pacific Northwest tour.

Immediately following the UK Tourism Workshop, staff participated in the Port of Seattle’s education program “Working with the International Market”, featuring guest speakers Doug Kellogg of TourMappers and Adrienne Phillips-Wynne of Expedia Media Solutions.
