    “ODISSEA”

    Based on "Odyssey"

From the book "The Odyssey" by Homer.

We start from the great epic poem to talk about nowadays and reflect on what has

happened in the recent years in our society: the "modern" wars and immigration

consequences, the virtual world and the essence of life that escapes us.

A journey of different cultures trying to survive in a global world, struggling to keep the

authenticity, not disconnected from their roots of what defines the difference.

The sea plays an important role. The sea

    as freedom, expanding horizons and

experiences; but nowadays, just as in

Homer's Odyssey, the sea is a conduit to

live everything that their waters hide:

    wanted or unwanted migrations, hidden

    corners, tyranny, adventure, love, search

for land to feel stable...And sometimes,

    also death.

The form, inspired by the stories of Homer, will look into enrapture the audience, in a

kind of journey full of beauty, sensorial charm, making this the joy of sensible existence,

while combining scenes of tragedy and pain. The meeting of a large and diverse group of

performers in this odyssey is a good chance to combine styles and different bodies,

representatives of different cultures and idiosyncrasies, which occupy a common space.

    A language barrier between the stage and the audience, between the now and tradition;

full of beauty and rhythm. A journey through images, where the physical work but poetic

at the same time will take us to the idea of absence, survival and palpable trace of

    feeling.

    STRUCTURE

    Introduction

A stage full of TV’s with news from around the world. The dancers still, looking at the

screen. When they suddenly go to black out, it all starts.

    Pathway

Everything happens at the sea. Cultures interaction. Scenography made of Holograms.

    Mirages

The most mystical part. It's like a dream, nothing on stage; only dance from where a

geometric figure starts an ancient ritual using pieces of "The Rite of Spring" alongside

    music composed for the show.

    The meeting

Returning to the starting point, but everything has changed. A completely virtual world

where little by little, each dancer is leaving its mark; working on the idea of ephemeral.

    CARLOS ACOSTA

Carlos Acosta is one of the most

    outstanding performers of the

international dance scene. He began his

studies when he was 10 years old in

the Escuela Nacional de Ballet de Cuba,

    obtaining the highest marks.

Later, his career has been recognized

with awards such as the prestigious

gold medal of the Prix de Lausanne,

    received in 1990.

Since 1989, Carlos Acosta has been

part of international companies such as

the English Ballet, the National Ballet of

Cuba, the Houston Ballet and the Royal Ballet.

After a long career as a dancer and guest star in the most important companies in the

world, in 2015 he formed his own company in La Habana, Cuba.

This 2016, his company "Acosta Danza" has made the first international tour in France,

England and Italy. It's his first season and he has offered a classical and contemporary

repertoire performed by dancers of both disciplines.

His will is to make a transition and explore other sides of dance and break the traditional

    aesthetics.

In this increasingly globalized world, he wants to introduce all the talent that the island

of Cuba has in an artistic level: dancers, musicians, playwrights. One of the goals is to

share all this talent with the rest of the world.
