Welcome to our 2015 production sale. Thank you for taking the time to look through this years sale

offering. We want to thank everyone who has supported our program in the past, even if it was just

requesting a catalog. We know that there are many, many places that you could choose your next bull,

and it means so very much to us that you are interested in our program.

For 19 years, our registered cow herd has been built by focusing on the bottom side of the pedigree

regardless of whether we were looking at a bull or a cow. No matter what your goal is, whether it is

growth, carcass, or calving ease, you cannot achieve any of it without first having a cow that is sound,

fertile, and functional. We believe it all starts with the COW, no matter what. The bulls we are offering

in this sale have been bred for generations to leave you with productive daughters that should raise

good calves for whatever direction you wish to take them. This is the purpose of our program.

We are again offering only the top bulls out of each calf crop. Our program is shifting from January

calving to May-June calving, and will be offering all coming two year old bulls in the near future. The

coming two year old bulls in this sale were bred for this purpose. They are NOT out of late calving cows

and they are NOT left overs. There are herd bulls in each sire group, in both the yearlings and coming

twos, and we plan to use some of these bulls back in our program. The yearlings will be carcass

ultrasounded and all bulls selling will be tested negative for BVD PI. All bulls will have a full breeding

soundness exam and full vaccination program. As usual, none of the bulls will have haircuts. We

want you to see them as they look every day. All bulls are guaranteed fully for 1 breeding season. We

believe strongly in the bulls we sell and stand behind them 100%. We will do anything we can to make

any situation right if something goes wrong.

Bull sale order is determined by actual bull weights taken on January 2, 2015. The bulls will sell in

catalog order. You will find quality bulls throughout the sale, regardless of his position in the sale order.

“711” is an excellent calving ease bull. We have calved numerous first calf heifers to him and he is what I truly call a “heifer bull”. His daughters make as good of cows as we have. They are moderate, fertile, good disposition cows that bring in big calves each year. They have good feet and good udders with small teats. Over the last 2 years, “711” has bred over 70 heifers natural service. He is now 8 years old and still shows excellent soundness. We have been breeding our Cedar Ridge daughters and granddaughters to him with great success. Semen available.

Cole Creek Cedar Ridge 1V is an excellent outcross bull for the Angus breed. He is moderate framed, wide based, and full of muscle. He has drawn a lot of attention from cattlemen, across this country and beyond, for siring early gestation, moderate birth weight calves that have tremendous vigor at birth. Cedar Ridge is as docile as you will find, and he transmits this to his calves consistently. He is backed by an excellent cow family, not only from the standpoint that his dam is a pathfinder, but also because they are sound, functional cows with excellent feet and legs. His daughters are excellent mothers that raise big calves and still breed back on time. His influence will continue in our herd, especially through his sons, Cedar Canyon and Rimrock. Dietz Cedar Canyon 6091 & Dietz Rimrock 6002 (reg 17358255) are two full brothers that were our picks of the 2011 and 2012 calf crops. Both bulls are clean made with extra length of body and good thickness. Both bulls have been used very successfully on first calf heifers where the heifers were range calved with no assistance. We are excited to calve the first Cedar Canyon daughters this May. The mother of Cedar Canyon and Rimrock, VDAR Hazel 3704, has made more of a positive impact on our herd than any other animal we have ever owned. 3704 has a production record of 8 @ 97 on birth, 8 @ 102 weaning, and 8 @ 102 yearling. We strongly believe in these two young herd sires and feel that they are worthy of replacing their sire in our breeding pastures.

DFA Gameday 6298 is a bull that we raised that throws a little more frame and growth than some of the sires we use. He stamps his daughters consistently with a feminine, clean front end and excellent udders with small teats. 6298’s dam raised 15 calves. Between his dam and his paternal grand dam, they had nearly 30 years of combined production. “6141” is a bull that we used for the daughters that he will produce. So far, we could not be happier with the results. We won’t calve our first daughters until May, but they have the look that fit our “type” perfectly. We will have another set of “6141” calves born this year as well. This will be our third crop of direct “6141” offspring, and now we will begin using “6141” sons that we have raised going forward. When we AI to a bull, it is for the purpose of producing a herd sire of our own to use ourselves. This is, in our opinion, is what a breeding program is about. VDAR Really Windy 4097 has become a widely used and popular bull in the Angus breed. His calves come easy and have good growth. We used 4097 the first year he sold and again the next year, and then we waited to see what kind of cows the daughters would make once they calved. Our oldest daughters are now 6 years old and are proving to be good solid cows. The Really Windy crossed on Cedar Ridge has made some nice cows in our operation. VDAR Four Corners 8232 was our pick of the 2013 Van Dyke Angus bull sale. He is moderate framed, thick and deep, and has excellent feet and legs. His dam was a pathfinder in the VDAR herd where she had a production record of 102 @ birth, 106 @ weaning and 107 @ yearling on 11 calves and with a calving interval of 365 days. Her first daughter, VDAR Rosetta 3762 also earned pathfinder and is still producing at 12 years of age. His calving ease sire, DFA Hero 6017, sold in our 2008 production sale where he was purchased by Dale Vitt of Bar JV Angus and later sold an interest to Van Dyke Angus. Four Corners is a very athletic and aggressive breeding bull in the pasture. He is being used heavily at VDAR and also by a number of other top producers both registered and commercial across the country. Owned by Dietz Family Angus and Van Dyke Angus. Semen is available.

OCC Yoman 613Y was purchased from Ohlde Cattle Company in Kansas. Our program is about making females and we think there are about as many excellent, proven foundation cows in Yoman’s pedigree as you could hope to find. Yoman’s sire, OCC Eureka, is a very thick and easy fleshing and Eureka’s dam “1204” was a very productive, foundation cow in the Ohlde herd. Yoman’s mother, “907C”, is a full sister to OCC Great Plains 943G and his maternal grand dam, “1019”, is the mother of OCC Emblazon 854E. We think Yoman will be an important part of continuing to improve our cow herd. His daughters should be easy fleshing, productive cow, with exceptional udders. Here is how the bulls were developed

The yearling bulls were born mid January through February 2014. After their mothers were bred back in April and early May, the pairs were sent to summer pasture where they were raised by their mothers along with salt and mineral. The calves have never had any creep feed or extra supplement until they were weaned the first week of October. Once weaned, they were fed cracked corn, dried distillers grain pellets and free choice grass/alfalfa hay.

The coming two-year old bulls were born during late May and June of 2013. They were weaned in the middle of January 2014 and put on the corn/pellet/hay ration to gain 1.75 to 2.0 pounds per day. At the end of May 2014, the bulls were turned out onto a pasture of tame and native grass until early August when they were moved to hay fields where they got to take advantage of some nice regrowth from the plentiful summer rains. These bulls went back into the feedlot during the last week of October where they have been since. In the lot they get cracked corn/ pellets and free choice hay. These bulls received salt and mineral while on summer pasture, with no other additional supplement.

We think that these bulls have been developed so they stay sound and be in the right condition to get your cows bred.
