Who would have believed that this show would still be growing strong as it embarks on its fourteenth consecutive season in

Ottawa? There are very few Broadway shows that have gone on for such a lengthy period. The attractiveness of this unique perspective on history and music is what keeps audiences interested and the driving force behind the musical is Deborah Davis. She and her many talented collaborators keep the show alive and full of energy.

A Musical Taste of Our Canadian Heritage is more than a taste. It is a delicious treat. The tens of thousands of Ottawans and visitors who have seen the show in its various iterations have always been delighted by the performance. For the past three years, the show included a special segment to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. While the concept remains the same, the content of the production is evolving.

In 2014, Odyssey Showcase is once again honoured to present this extraordinary show to entertain students, teachers and other residents of the National Capital Region. This year, we have a special presentation on Sunday, February 16 (celebrating the Family Day weekend) to kick off our season, at the Algonquin Commons Theatre, and then school shows in April at the Algonquin Commons Theatre followed by school shows at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in May.

The incredible support of TD, our major sponsor, is what enables us to bring you this magical show once again. We are also grateful to other sponsors who help in many ways.

Fasten your seat belts and get ready for some enjoyable time travel.

On the fourteenth anniversary of this unique celebration of Canada’s history, music and people, we again extend our heartfelt admiration and affection

for the entire cast and crew. Your professionalism, dedication, talent and camaraderie continue to make Canada roar as never before. AND on behalf of all of us and everyone who has experienced the show at presentations on Parliament Hill on Canada Day, the Governor General’s award ceremonies for excellence in teaching Canadian history, the OECD Conference on lifelong learning, other international conferences, and countless performances for students and the public, a special thank you to TD Bank Group. As our major sponsor from the start, TD has provided not only funding, but also encouragement and practical business guidance making it possible to bring this ambitious project from vision to reality. Thank you also to the Government of Canada’s War of 1812 Commemoration Fund for financially supporting our tribute to the War of 1812 in our performances over the past three years.

TD Bank Group has been a proud supporter of A Musical Taste of Our Canadian Heritage since its inception. Entertaining and inspiring audiences for 13 wonderful years, this exceptionally distinctive, musically engaging, yet educational production allows audiences

of all ages to see themselves through the medium of music, as not only an important part of Canada’s history, but also of its future.

History is more than just a collection of tributes and celebrations of dates, events and stories, and A Musical Taste of Our Canadian Heritage is able to offer Canadians a unique opportunity to experience Canada’s rich and diverse cultural and economic history through the joy of music. To date, we know that A Musical Taste of Our Canadian Heritage has been enjoyed by more than 200,000 people at venues ranging from school presentations, community theatres, gala awards evenings, to centre stage at Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill.

The driving force behind our community giving programs at TD has always been to make contributions which will have a lasting, positive impact for our customers and our employees in the communities we serve. As the country starts its long-term planning for the Sesquicentennial celebrations of 2017, it is our fervent hope that sharing history through music can be one of the unique ways to draw more and more attention to the importance of Canadian history, helping to make Canadian history even more interesting for the young people in our school systems and their families.

Congratulations to Deborah Davis, her team of performers and to all those who quietly operate behind the scenes for bringing this musical celebration of our history to life.

Alan Convery, Senior Manager, Community Relations, TD Bank Group
