THE TWINS’ PUPPY

Maggie and Martha have been asking their parents to get them a puppy for a long time. The girls are 9 year old twins, and they have finally convinced their mother and father that they are old enough to take care of a puppy. They have promised that they will play with their new pet every day, take it for walks, and feed it. Next week, after the last day of school, the girls are going to choose their new pet at the pet store down the street from their apartment. They have often gone by the pet store on Saturdays to look at the puppies and to decide which one is their favorite. The only problem is that Maggie wants a tiny brown puppy, but Martha likes a different dog—a yellow one with big paws and floppy ears. Next week they will have to decide because they know that their parents will never let them get two puppies. The big day has finally arrived. Maggie and Martha are so excited that they get up very early. They still can’t believe that they will finally have a pet puppy that afternoon. After breakfast, the girls go to the pet store with their father. When they get there, they see a new family of brown and white puppies that they have never seen before, and the girls forget all about the other puppies in the store. The new puppies are very playful and friendly, with curly fur and very soft ears. When the girls play with them, one of the puppies licks both of their faces, wags her tail, and carries her toy ball back and forth between the two girls. It’s almost like the puppy is choosing them, so they both decide that this is the puppy for them. They name their new puppy Bella because she is so pretty, and they proudly walk her home.

THE VERY FULL BACKPACK

Jim has a large blue backpack filled with all the things he needs for school. In the biggest section, Jim keeps his books. He has books for every class, and even though they are thin, they take up a lot of space. Jim has two books for English, one for Greek, plus a math book, a science book, and a history book. He also has a book about secret agents that he took out from the library because Jim likes to read in his spare time. Of course, he also has notebooks for his subjects and a folder for his papers.

In the smaller section of his backpack, Jim keeps his pencil case. He has plenty of pens and pencils. He has correction tape, too. Since Jim likes to draw, he has colored pencils of every color as well: green, blue, purple, red, and yellow. He has a small sketchpad next to his pencil case, so he can draw cartoons. Jim has lots of other items in his backpack. He has a wallet, so he can buy a snack when he’s hungry. He has a cell phone, but he makes sure it’s off during school. On the long bus ride home though, Jim often listens to music to relax from the long day. Jim also has a couple of toys in his backpack. He has a small ball to play catch with, a yoyo, a whistle, and a harmonica.

SHOPPING FOR SUNDAY DINNER

Almost every Saturday, John and Maria go to the market with their parents to shop for Sunday dinner. They need to buy many things because they have a big family. Their grandparents—all four of them—come over for Sunday afternoon, and so do their aunts, uncles, and cousins. John and Maria have six cousins, and they are all between seven and eleven years old, so they play lots of games together. This Sunday is John’s birthday, so it will be a very special day. John’s favorite part of the market is the fish stand. It smells a lot, but he likes to look at all the different shapes and sizes of fish and seafood. He really likes the octopus because they look so strange. The family is going to have a barbecue, so they buy five medium sized white fish to put on the grill. Then, they go to the butcher to buy pork and chicken for souvlaki. While John and his mother are buying the fish and meat, Maria and her father are choosing the vegetables. «Άλλοσ» είναι αυτόσ που δεν είμαι εγϊ, αυτόσ που κατζχει ζνα ςϊμα και ζνα πνεφμα που δεν
