OAS and the President of Paraguay, Federico Franco, presented positive results from the civil registry campaign in border zones The Organization of American States (OAS) and the President of the Republic of Paraguay, Federico Franco, presented results obtained during the massive civil registry campaign in border zones, executed within the frame of initiatives for promoting the right to identity. The Project, which is developed with the support of German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Alto Paraguay and Boquerón Department in Paraguay, and has a focus on gender and an emphasis on indigenous communities, concluded to a productions of 8,184 registration and 3,701 submits of birth certificates; meaning 91 % fulfillment of established goal. During the Project, a strategic alliance was signed with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) for development of awareness works regarding to the subject, by this means were achieved four informative campaigns on registration processes and thirteen workshops for sensitization and communication about importance of having an identity. In addition, five commitment letters were signed between Alto Paraguay and Boquerón Department to facilitate information exchange and procedures, internally and externally. Also the first “Strategic plan for civil status registration of Paraguay” was elaborated and approved by institutional authorities. The presentation of results was attended by authorities of Executive Power and Judicial Power of Paraguay, Departmental Representatives of Alto Paraguay and Boquerón, as well as representatives from the cooperating agencies. From OAS, was attended by the Coordinator of the Universal Civil Identity Program in the Americas (PUICAOAS), from the Department for Effective Public Management, Steven Griner.
