Norrkping Art Museum is a place for coming face to face with art and with unexpected experiences.

The museum has one of Swedens foremost art collections, including Swedish modernism and contemporary art. Here you will also find one of the countrys largest collections of graphic art.

Displays during 2011 will include Consume More the worlds best shopping ex-hibition, focusing on how shopping and art reflect the value of things.

Then in the sum-mer this will be followed by Marie-Louise Ekman, an exhibition characterised by both humour and seriousness with a serial-type expression. In the autumn there will be an exhibition by Gsta Adrian-Nilsson (GAN) who during the breakthrough of industrialism depicted strength, movement and machinery through his paintings.

At the art museum, as well as the exhibi-tions, you can also attend lectures and other cultural programmes that both broaden and deepen your experiences in various ways.

At Anas Art Caf you can have a snack or eat a simple lunch, out in the museums pleasant sculpture park in the summer.

In the museum shop you will find unusual objects; gifts, books, jewellery and postcards, among other things.

20-RS jUbILEUM P ARbETETS MUSEUM This year the Museum of Work celebrates its 20th year, and together with two others in the same situation, weavers Bjrke vvstuga and spinners stergtland Ullspinneri, they are putting on an exhibition about work in the textile industry. Sit and knit or crochet for a while and then add your contribution to the textile garden that will grow during

the period of the exhibition. In the exhibition A Taste of Europe you

can find out why we eat what we do. Learn about trends and traditions concerning food in Europe.

This summer Bamse, the worlds strongest yet sweetest bear, will move into the EWK museum. And as usual there is a Summer Factory for those who like to make things, children and adults alike.

Take a break in Caf Strykjrnet while you watch people stroll by, or have lunch in Restaurant Laxholmen and enjoy the splendid views over the Industrial Landscape. Finish off with a visit to the museum shop and discover things you have never seen before.

THE MANCHESTER OF SWEDEN AT THE CITY MUSEUM Norrkping City Museum is located right in the centre of the Industrial Landscape by the bubbling waters of Motala Strm. The museums aim is to create the life and history of the city. In the weaving room you can experience the thump of the looms, the only ones left since Norrkping was known as the Manchester of Sweden a little over a century

ago. How loud is 200 decibels? At what point do you become deaf?

How much did people earn? Make sure you meet our textile technician Sofia Wallin; she knows all

the answers! In the same building you will find the exhibition Seals, pigs and glass beads, an exhibition about prehistoric times. Travel back to a time when your favourite meal would have been seal soup and hunting was a necessary chore. Or meet the little chimney sweep in Up and down the street - an exhibition with 40 or so jobs displayed over four enjoyable floors. This summers exhibition is Style icon Karin Larsson and sober peasant clothing.

In the museum shop, ranked one of the best in Sweden, you will find unusual gifts; new imprints of Erik Chamberts fabrics and rock carving jewellery that is available only here.

onCe upon a TiMe ...In stergt-land you can find history

under every stone, and the place is teeming with fascinating ancient monuments. The regions medieval heritage lives on strongly in palaces, castles and abbeys, and the towns that grew around them are still there, as monuments to days gone by: Sderkping, Sknninge, Vadstena.

The Middle AgesSknninge and Sderkping are stergtlands oldest towns. Back in the thirteenth century Sderkping became a trading centre and Sknninge grew as an important church centre. Linkping became a bishopric and the towns of Mjlby and Motala were already named in written documents. During the fifteenth century along came Vad-stena, which still retains clear traces of its medieval past to this day.The stergtland towns all have their own exciting history created by their present.

VadstenaIn the Middle Ages pilgrims came to Vadstena from many of the countries of the world. The destination for these visitors was of course Vadstena Abbey, with its relics of Saint Birgitta, and Birgittas monastery. The abbey, or Blue Church, which was built on the orders of Saint Birgitta, was inaugurated in 1430 and served as an abbey until the sixteenth century. Today it houses a unique collection of medieval ecclesiastical art, including Birgittas reliquary from the fourteenth century.

SknningeSknninge is one of Swedens oldest and most significant medieval towns. It was an important trading centre at an early point, with its strategic location on the fertile stergta plain. Today this is marked in Swedens biggest street market, the Sknninge Marken, which is held at the beginning of August.

During the thirteenth century, German traders had a great deal of influence over the town and commissioned the building of, among other things, the majestic Vrfrukyrkan Church in the typical north German style of the age. The church was completed by the beginning of the fourteenth century. Go for a stroll round the towns cultural landscape and visit the museums and the beautiful gardens.

And dont miss out on a visit to Bjlbo where the man who created the kingdom of Sweden Birger jarl was born.

es War einMal...MittelalterSknninge und Sderkping sind die ltesten Stdte stergt-lands. Bereits im 13. Jahrhundert wurde Sderkping zur Handelsstadt und Sknninge wuchs als ein wichtiges kirchliches Zentrum heran. Linkping wurde Bischofsstadt und die Drfer Mjlby und Motala sind bereits damals schriftlich erwhnt. Im 15. Jahrhundert entstand Vadstena, das noch heute deutliche Spuren aus dem Mittelalter trgt.Die Stdte stergtlands haben jede ihre eigene spannende Geschichte, die durch die damalige Zeit geschaffen wurde.

VadstenaNach Vadstena kamen im Mittelalter Pilger aus vielen Lndern der Welt. Das Ziel der Besucher war natrlich die Klosterkirche von Vadstena, mit den Reliquien der Heiligen Birgitta und dem Kloster Birgittas. Die Klosterkirche, die sog. Blaukirche, wurde nach einer Weisung der Heiligen Birgitta errichtet, 1430 eingeweiht und diente bis ins 16. Jahrhundert als Klosterkirche. Heute enthlt sie eine einzigartige Sammlung mittelalterlicher Kirchenkunst, nicht zuletzt den Reliquienschrein Birgittas aus dem 14. Jahrhundert.

SknningeSknninge ist eine der ltesten und bedeutendsten mittelalterlichen Stdte Schwedens und war mit seiner strategischen Lage auf der fruchtbaren Ebene stergtlands ein wichtiges Zentrum des Handels. Das merkt man noch heute am grten Jahrmarkt Schwedens, dem Sknninge Marken, der Anfang August stattfindet.

Deutsche Handelsleute hatten im 13. Jahrhundert groen Einfluss in der Stadt und lieen unter anderem die groe Vrfrukyrkan im zeittypischen norddeutschen Stil errichten. Die Kirche war Anfang des 14. Jahrhunderts fertig. Machen Sie einen Spaziergang durch das Kulturangebot der Stadt und besuchen Sie die Museen und die schnen Grten.

Verpassen Sie auch nicht einen Besuch in Bjlbo, wo der Bewohner stgtalands lebte, der Schweden zu einem Reich einte Birger jarl.

lively and Swedish, German and other languages could be heard

In Kanalhamnen, where the boats pass through the locks as

curious spectators watch, there are also shops, restaurants and

cafs. Out in St Anna Archipelago, islands with swimming bays

and natural harbours, sea eagles and seals await.

Most things in Sderkping are also fun for children. A

tour of the area in which the Madicken films were shot is like

stepping into Astrid Lindgrens stories, and if you listen carefully

you can hear the clattering of the hooves of the knights horses

along the cobbled streets. During Gstabudet (the Banquet of

Sderkping) on 9-11 September, the story comes to life and

you can become a knight for a while.

Ombergs highest point, Hjssan, offers a magnificent view over the village of Om-berg, and at the Vstra viewpoint the walls descend steeply into Lake Vttern, giving you a dizzying experience. Omberg also has the large eco park Ekopark Omberg, one of the countrys most popular natural areas, with a mosaic of woods and dramatic mountainsides. Combine your visit to Omberg with bird-watching at Tkern, northern Europes best-known birdlake.

SommenbygdTravelling in Sommenbygd is to make your way between stretches of water. Here, in the borderlands between Smland and stergtland, you are never far from sparkling lakes, waterfalls, or other enchanting bodies of water. In the heart of the district lies Lake Sommen. The hostel in Arksund is near a beach on the Vikbolandet peninsula. Perfect starting point for fi shing excursions and kayaking.

Enjoy the tranquillity of Bjrkfors. The lakes Bjrken and sunden offer excel-lent views and all rooms at the hostel in Rimforsa/Kalvudden have a great view of sunden.

At Omberg/Stocklycke and Borghamn near lake Vttern, experience the mythical mountain Omberg, with its hiking trails and fl oral splendor.

Our hostel near Borensberg/Glasbruket is in a true turn-of-the-century milieu between Gta Canal and Motala stream. Between the Brdtom locks and Norsholm/Kapten Billes, walk or bicycle along Gta Canal. At the Berg lock, stay by Gta Canals biggest lock fl ight.

If you hike the Birgittaleden trail, stop by the Freja/Vreta monastery.
