From Father Mike

Continuing from the last couple of weeks with the ideas presented by Fr. Paul

Colloton in a National Pastoral Musicians newsletter, he states that the liturgy is an

act of the church. The word “liturgy” means the work of the people, and our work

is to offer God praise and seek his grace as those he has saved through the

resurrection of his Son, Jesus Christ. We participate in this saving work because we

are the church, redeemed not merely as individuals but collectively as the living

Body of Christ. Just as Jesus offers himself as a sacrifice to the Father through the

Holy Spirit, so we are offering ourselves in sacrifice as members of his body. But

Mass is always more than those who are present at that particular time and place

but our participation in the continual offering of Christ himself to the Father. I

believe we experience the mystery of what it means to be a Catholic, someone

who is part of the Church, in a unique way at Mass. This is why it is so important to

be with others who are baptized each Sunday, the day of the Resurrection. When

Jesus says in today’s gospel, “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains

in me and I in him,” it is yet another reminder that the Body and Blood of Christ

keeps us connected to the Church as the Body of Christ herself. Also, another way

we experience the greater reality of the Church is to hear and support her mission

throughout the world, so I encourage you to read the enclosed materials on the

Precious Blood Fathers as we prepare to receive our annual missionary priest, Fr.

Steve Dos Santos, next weekend.

CONFESSIONS THIS WEEK
