Introduction When compared to conventional fixed or removable prosthetic options for tooth replacement, implant therapy is a biologically conservative treatment approach with the potential for achieving rewarding treatment outcomes for both the patient and dentist. In order to accomplish consistent and predictable dental implant treatment outcomes in general practice, an understanding of the fundamental principles of implant biomechanics, prosthetic, surgical and treatment planning considerations is required. Dr. Cecilia Aragon and Dr. Hoda Hosseini will put all of these factors into perspective through an understanding of the current literature and how this relates to clinical practice. The course will include a hands-on portion where the use of restorative components will be reviewed and executed on demo mandibles. This 35-hour Prosthetic, 16-hour Surgical Implant Therapy program is directed at the minimum educational requirement of the RCDSO Implant Guidelines for Restorative-phase Only Dentists. Dr. Cecilia Aragon is a board-certified Prosthodontist in Canada and the United States. She was awarded her DDS degree in 1997 in Lima, Peru. She completed a one-year internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Michigan in 2001. Dr. Aragon then received a Master’s degree and certificate in Prosthodontics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2004. She currently has a practice limited to Prosthodontics in London, ON. Dr. Aragon is also an adjunct clinical instructor at the Schulich School of Dentistry, and holds an appointment at the London Health Science Centre where she rehabilitates cancer patients and supervises the general practice residents. Dr. Aragon is a published researcher and an adjunct reviewer with the Journal Oral and Maxillofacial Implants and the Journal of Dental Education. She is a member of various different professional organizations, including the Ontario Dental Association, the Canadian Dental Association, the Association of Prosthodontics of Canada and the American College of Prosthodontics. Dr. Hoda Hosseini, DMD, MDent (Perio), FRCD(C) is a board certified periodontitist. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from the University of Manitoba in 2006. She worked as a general practitioner for several years before going back to University of Manitoba and obtaining her Master of Dentistry in Periodontology in 2012. Dr. Hosseini is a published author in the field of peri-implant disease and has lectured to audiences in Western Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan and was recognized as a young speaker in implant dentistry at the 2015 Key Opinion Leaders summit. Dr. Hosseini is a fellow of good standing with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and is also an active member of Canadian Academy of Periodontology, Ontario Dental Acossiation, Academy of Osseointegration and International Congress of Oral Implantology. Dr. Hosseini specializes in all aspects of periodontal therapy with special proficiencies in esthetic implant placement, implant site development and treatment of Peri-implant diseases. Dr. Hosseini currently maintains private practice in Saskatchewan and London, Ontario.
