e? This course focuses on developing the basic skills and understanding needed for working in the Uniformed Public Services. Skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership are all considered through practical activities.

There are two academic units which analyse where public services fit into our society. The course has direct relevance to those wishing to join the armed forces, emergency services or other uniformed public services.

The skills covered on this course are also of general relevance to employers and so this course may make a good second subject for those wanting to build a practical element into their study programme. It is strongly advised that students undertaking this course also do DofE Gold, as this will give greater opportunity to practice the trekking skills needed for the highest grades.

As part of the Post-16 Sports Offer, this course would complement BTEC Sport, HSLA, Leisure Studies, Elite Academies, Event Management and Volunteering.

Most students will have one of the following:

A BTEC Merit in a related BTEC First Diploma course, or a standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades C including English.

Students choosing this course will have a genuine interest in joining the uniformed public services or at least be open minded to it as a possible career. They will also be prepared to undertake strenuous physical activity in all conditions as part of the practical units.

You will need to have walking boots and a 3 season sleeping bag as part of Unit 9 and 10. Financial constraints can, in exceptional circumstances, be provided.
