Hello Members,
Well at the last AGM I have taken up the position of President once again. I would first of all
like to thank Sally Napper, Past President, for her efforts over the past 5 years, Sally and her
committee have worked hard to maintain the Association and have done a good job. The
association is in a great financial position still and hopefully will be for many years to come. I
would also like to thank the new Committee for offering their services again this year.
The Committee is focused this year on organising events for our members and other RASigs
members. This includes Anzac Day Lunch which will be held at the Strathmore Hotel North
Terrace Adelaide on the 25th April. Some renovations will be going on at the hotel; however
this will not affect us as we have been given a large area upstairs near the restaurant, where
Food and Drinks will be available at the same prices as normal. We also hope to have more
interaction with 144 Sig Sqn this year and hopefully can provide assistance in some social
events. The committee is planning a Formal Corps Dinner for the RASigs community in mid-
November.
A couple of other points of interest to do with the Corps, is the National Reunion to be held
next year in Townsville 17-23 June 2020. All the details are on the website under Reunion
www.rasigs.com please do your best to attend it is going to be a fantastic event. Also, the
Corps is in early planning for a major event to celebrate 100 years of the Corps (2025)
hopefully we are all around to celebrate such a milestone.

Diary Dates
ANZAC Day, Please note that the ANZAC Day Lunch will be held at the Strathmore Hotel, North Terrace,
Adelaide starting around 12 - 12.30pm on Thursday 25 April 2019. It is important that you let
us know that you are coming, because if you are not on the booking list we will ask you to
move as we can only make a booking based on the numbers we receive.
Please RSVP no later than Wednesday 10 April 2019 to the following email address:
At the time this Messenger was being prepared, RSL SA was still preparing the Order of
March. After speaking with Keith from RSL he indicated that they were still waiting on
Defence to get back to them as to who will be participating. He went on to say they now
have the dilemma of the tram line down King William Street as some of the signs are in the
way, but these will be temporarily moved. He said that we should still be roughly in the same
place, maybe a little closer as there are less older soldiers taking part or have passed on. He
suggested that we look at their webpage for more details as we get closer to the day, click
on the link: http://rslsa.org.au/anzac-day-2/ for details.
RASIGS Dinner/Reunion Please put the 16th November 2019 in your diary, negotiations are in progress as to venue and
time, it is hoped that it will be held at 144 SIG Squadron.
NATIONAL REUNION 17 - 23 JUNE 2020 IN TOWNSVILLE QUEENSLAND
SPECIAL AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION
For all participants in this next RASigs national reunion 17 - 23 June 2020 in Townsville
Queensland we have setup the RASigs website www.rasigs.com (click on the red reunion
sign top right of the home page) the reunion page has links to the proposed itinerary at the
reunion, as well as an attendance list, accommodation and things to do with contact
numbers.
Please check the attendance list for your name, if your name is not on it or you need to add
or wish to be deleted, please email [email protected] and advise me.
We really need your help now to make this event a success. We have borrowed money to
secure the hotel (the Ville, Townsville casino) for our formal dinner night, so we need a
deposit from everyone attending by 30 June 2019 of $50.00. We would then expect you to
make the final payment of $75.00 by 1st of March 2020.
This should help everyone to save up for the dinner and come and join us in a great night
with friends you may not have seen for a long time. The total cost for the formal dinner is
$125.00 per head, this includes a great meal and a 5 (five) hour drink package.
You can pay the full amount if you are able, payment should be made to the account
detailed at the bottom of the reunion page on the website.
Please use your surname and initial’s as the reference. As we have so many planning to
attend, first in gets a spot. We will have reunion polo shirts, caps and stubbie coolers
available to buy prior to the event; the details will be posted in the next couple of months.
Prices are shown of what we believe the cost will be, but that needs to be confirmed.
We ask you to please support this great event; it may be the last one for many of us and our
friends.
Further information will be posted to the website and on Facebook as it comes to hand.
Please remember we on the reunion committee are putting a lot of our time into organising
this and need your support to make it a success. Looking forward to seeing you all up in
Townsville.

Royal Australian Signals Museum – Simpson Barracks:
Where is this Memorial?
Who are the two Ex-Servicemen?
Among the many uncaptioned photographs in the Signals
Museum’s collection is this photograph of an obvious Signal
Corps monument. However, we do not know where it is, or the
background to its construction?
The Officer in uniform is Colonel Ray
Clark, RASigs, and the photograph
would have been taken when he
was Director of Communications
(1975 – 1977), Colonel
Commandant 3rd Military District or
Representative Colonel
Commandant (1986 – 1989).
Can anyone help the Museum
identify the two people in civilian clothing and provide
information on the background to the memorial’s erection and
its location?
If you are able to assist the RASigs Museum please email:
