About the Play -- After Rosalind falls in love with Orlando, she is banished by her
uncle, Duke Frederick. Rosalind, her cousin Celia, and Touchstone the Fool, escape to
the Forest of Arden where Rosalind disguises herself as a boy named Ganymede.
Orlando is also in the Forest, fleeing the wrath of his elder brother. Dressed as
“Ganymede,” Rosalind promises to teach Orlando how to win the heart of his true love—
Rosalind! (The seventeenth-century play is available to read free online at many web-
sites including Project Gutenberg, www.gutenberg.org )
