1.0 Scope This report deals with the 4th Quarterly sampling and analysis of surface water from the Derryclure Landfill facility located at Tullamore, Co. Offaly. Monitoring was as a result of requirements set out in Waste Licence Register No. W0029-04. Surface Water is required to be sampled at the following locations at the Derryclure Landfill facility; SW-7, SW-8, SW-9, SW-10, SW-11 and SW-12. Condition 4.2.2 of the Waste Licence sets trigger limits for BOD (25 mg/L) and Suspended Solids (60 mg/L) at surface water monitoring locations SW-7, SW-8, SW-9, SW-10, SW-11 and SW-12. 2.0 Methodology Grab samples of surface water were collected by Fitz Scientific personnel on the 23rd November 2015, and brought to the Fitz Scientific laboratory for analysis. The analytical methods used are from Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, 20th edition, 1998. The Certificates of Analyses (Referenced 1179/106/04–08) are attached to this Report. 3.0 Interpretation of Results SW7 is located to the south-west of the landfill, in close proximity to the landfill site entrance. It is a surface water drain located in a manhole. All parameters are within the Class A3 limit of the Surface Water Regulation. The trigger limits of 25 mg/L BOD and 60 mg/L Suspended Solids concentration as specified in Condition 4.2.2 of Waste Licence Register No. 0029-04 were not exceeded during this monitoring period. SW8 is located out of the landfill boundary. It is a stream to the west of the landfill. The trigger limit of 25 mg/L for BOD as specified in Condition 4.2.2 of Waste Licence Register No. 0029-04 was not exceeded during this monitoring period. The trigger limit of 60 mg/L for Suspended Solids was exceeded with a value of 213 mg/L. The result for COD was 48 mg/L during this sampling period and is outside the Class A3 limit of 40 mg/L. All parameters are within the Class A3 limit of the Surface Water Regulation. SW9 is located out of the landfill boundary. It is a stream to the west of the landfill. The result for Suspended Solids was 60 mg/L during this sampling period and was outside the Class A3 limit of 50 mg/L but within the trigger limit of 60 mg/L as specified in Condition 4.2.2 of Waste Licence Register No. 0029-04. The result for COD was 69 mg/L during this sampling period and is outside the Class A3 limit of 40 mg/L. All parameters are within the Class A3 limit of the Surface Water Regulation. SW10 is located out of the landfill boundary. SW10 is located out of the landfill boundary. It is a stream to the west of the landfill. The trigger limit of 25 mg/L for BOD as specified in Condition 4.2.2 of Waste Licence Register No. 0029-04 was not exceeded during this monitoring period. The trigger limit of 60 mg/L for Suspended Solids was exceeded with a value of 103 mg/L. The result for COD was 67 mg/L during this sampling period and is outside the Class A3 limit of 40 mg/L. All parameters are within the Class A3 limit of the Surface Water Regulation.
