Offense 1-4 high

Bloomington South 1-4 High Offense

BSHS runs 4 play entries out of the 1-4 offense and when the play has been run to completionthey go into 5 man motion.

They feel that teams get bored playing defense and will break down after several passes.

Note: South runs these four plays, and they can be run to either side of the court. As you will see, the plays have several different options, therefore can be hard to scout.

The first play they run is called #1, or corner.

#1 hits the wing and runs an inside cut to the ball side corner.

The ball side post, #5 screens away for the other post and then fills the point.

The back side post #4 uses the screen and rolls down to the ball side low post area.

If he is open, #3 should get him the ball in the low post area.

When #3 catches the ball, he has 3 passing options.

He can feed #4 in the post.

He can feed #5 at the point

His last look would be to #1 in the corner.

1

Offense If #3 feeds #4 in the post, #3 will run a give and go cut to the rim.

#5 will go down and set a screen for #1.

#1 will use the screen and run a post split.

If #3 does not get the ball on his give and go cut, #2 will down screen for him on the back side.

#4 can score, give the ball to #3 on the give and go, hand the ball off to #1 on the post split, or throw across the floor to #3 coming off the down screem. If a shot is not forthcoming the offense will flow into motion.

A pass from #3 out to #5 at the point, keys a shuffle cut by #3.

#5 will catch and immediately look to hit #2 on the back side wing.

On the pass from #5 to #2, #4 will back pick for #3 and #3 will run a shuffle cut to the rim.

As soon as #2 runs his shuffle cut, #4 and #5 will down screen for #1.

#1 will use the screens and cut hard to the point.

#4 may be able to slip the screen and get an easy lay up on the pass from #2.

2

Offense If #2 passes to #1 at the point, #4 and #5 will set a staggered double for #3.

#3 will cut on the baseline and try to free himself on the wing.

#5 will screen and then post hard in the low post position.

The pass from #1 to #3 cutting off the staggered double keys the end of the set play and the flow into motion.

If #3 makes a pass to #1 in the corner, #5 will step out and back screen for #3.

#3 will set the defense and cut to the rim. If he is open on this cut, #1 may get him the ball for a lay up.

If not, #5 will set a ball screen and run a screen and roll with #1.

#1 can dribble off the screen and get his shot, feed #5 rolling to the basket, or hit #3 coming off the staggered double screen set by #2 and #5.

Again, if a shot has not been taken, the offense will flow into motion.

The next play is #2.

#1 hits the wing, #2 and runs an "away" cut to the back side corner.

The ball side post, #4 will screen away for #5 and then fill the point.

#5 will use the screen and try to get open cutting off the screen. If he is open on the cut, #2 should get him the ball.

3

Offense If #2 does not make a pass to #5, #5 comes out and sets a ball screen for #2.

He can set it on the high side or on the baseline side of the defender.

As the screen is being set, #3 and #5 set a staggered double for #1.

#1 cuts hard out of the corner toward the point.

#3 may be able to slip the screen for a lay up.

"2 Down" Play entry.

The entry looks the same as play number 2, and if #4 is open on his cut off the screen set by #5, #2 should get him the ball.

#2dribbles down toward the baseline and #5 steps out to the wing area, clearing the way for a possible drive to the rim.

4

Offense If #2 cannot complete the drive to the rim, #2 will make a pass to #5.

#5 will pass to #4, then #4 will swing the ball on to #3.

#4 and #5 set a staggered double for #2 coming to the point and #1 will cross screen for #5

#1 will look for #2 at the point or #5 down on the block.

If #3 passes to #2, and #2 does not get a shot, he will look to #1 on the back side wing.

#1 fills the back side wing after receiving a down screen from #4.

#4 will screen down and post.

The pass from #2 over to #1 keys the end of the set play and the flow into motion offense.

"2 Up" Play entry.

This set begins exactly the same as play number "2," and play "2 down."

Again, if #5 is open on the cut off the screen set by #4, #2 should get him the ball.

5

Offense #2 passes the ball to #4 at the point.

On this pass, #3 goes down toward the baseline and then cross screens for #5.

At the same time, #1 sets his defender and replaces #3 on the wing.

#4 passes to #1 and then screens down for the screener #3.

#1 can feed #5 in the low post, or throw to #3 at the point.

The pass to #3 at the point keys the flow into the motion offense.

Play #3 entry.

#1 enters the ball to #5 at the high post.

On this post feed, #3 runs a back cut, and if he is open, #5 shuld drop him a bounce pass for a lay up.

After making the pass, #1 screens down for #4.

#4 does not accept the screen but cuts down the lane. If he is open, #5 can dump a bounce pass to him.

If neither #4 or #3 is open on their back cuts, #5 will run a dribble handoff with #1.

#1 will dribble off the hand off looking for a jump shot, and #3 will cross screen for #4. If #1 does not have a shot, he will look for #4 cutting to the ball side low post.

6

Offense The pass from #1 to #3 keys the end of the play and the flow into the motion game.

Same play, play number 3, but in this situation, #4 accepts the screen set by #1.

#1 makes the pass to #5 and #3 runs the back cut to the rim. If open, #5 should give him the ball.

After passing, #1 screens down for #4.

This time, #4 accepts the screen from #1 and fills the point.

If #3 is not open on the back cut, #5 will pass to #4 who has filled the point.

After making the pass to #4, #5 will set a screen for #1, and #1 will cut to the open wing.

7

Offense #4 will pass to #1 on the wing.

On this pass, #3 will set a back screen for #2.

#4 and #5 will then set a staggered double for #3.

#1 will look first to #2 down low and then to #3 cutting up to the point.

On the pass from #1 out to #3, #5 and #4 will set a second staggered double, this time for #2.

#2 will cut hard on the baseline and free himself at the back side wing.

#4 will post up on the ball side low post after screening.

The pass from #3 to #2 keys the end of the play and the flow into motion.

Play #4.

#1 enters the ball to #4 and receives a back screen from #5.

#1 runs a back cut to the basket and if open, #4 will give him a pass.

8

Offense If #1 is not open, #4 will make a pass to #5 who steps out after screening.

On the pass from #4 to #5, #1 wil back screen for #2 and then receive a down screen from #4.

#5 will look to #2 down low and then to #1 coming up toward the ball.

The pass from #5 to #1 ends the play and keys the flow into motion.
