About KEA
The three day conference focuses on the basic theme of ‘Migration, Development and Society’. The demographic transition which is well underway in Kerala is a unique experience whose wide ranging implications need deeper study and investigation. It is only relevant to revisit Kerala’s development experience on a wider canvass. The conference is another milestone in Kerala’s development trajectory.
&
Sub themes include:
• Social cost of migration

A small gathering of economists, research scholars, professors, professionals and policy planners met at Canara Bank Conference Hall, Thiruvananthapuram on 21
July 2013 and decided to form a forum for discussing economic issues and public policy matters, which will have farreaching implications for the development of the polity, society and economy of Kerala. As an outcome of this serious deliberations, the group stressed the need for a common and inclusive platform, which accommodates, researchers, professionals, practitioners, teachers and research scholars of economics in Kerala.
Kerala Economic Association successfully conducted its first annual conference in May 2015 at S.H. College, Thevara. In addition to the annual conference KEA conducted a series of programmes during the last year. A select list of the programmes is given below.
1. Prof. Salley Wallace delivered a lecture on Behavioural Economics in Public Finance in July 2015 at the Senate Chamber, University of Kerala.
2. Prof. Pinaki Chakravarthy delivered a lecture on Indian Fiscal Policy: Issues and Challenges, September 2015 at the Department of Economics, Govt. Women’s College, Thiruvananthapuram.

3. One Day Seminar on: World Development Report 2015 titled Mind society and Behaviour in August 2015 at Government Guest House Thycadu in association with Department of Economics Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram. Prof. M. A. Oommen presented the theme paper which was latter carried in the EPW.

5. Hon’ble Governor Justice P. Sathasivam honoured Prof. M.A. Oommen and released a book titled “Development Decentralization and Democracy” honouring Professor M A Oommen and conducted a National Seminar, October 2015.
6. National Seminar at Cochin College: “Community Participation in Development Initiatives-Contemporary Experiences and Challenges”, December 2015.
Now it has more than 500 life members. We are overwhelmed by the response to take the second annual conference forward. Prof. Sukhedo Thorat, Chairman ICSSR and President of the Indian Economic Association has agreed to inaugurate the Conference. We intend to invite eminent economists, policy makers, ministers of the union and the state.
We need to seek the whole hearted cooperation and association of business enterprises, industrial concerns, bankers and trade unions in Kerala for the successful conduct of this Conference.

The Structure and Design of the Conference
Farook College is the prime First Grade College to be established in the erstwhile Central Malabar. Since its inception it has been the flagship of educational renaissance in the region, especially benefiting backward and minority communities. Over the past 68 years it has grown into an educational complex and township, inspiring smaller endeavours elsewhere. Farook College is today the largest residential Postgraduate institution in the state of Kerala. The college was accredited at Five Star level and Re-accredited at ‘A’ Grade by the NAAC, Bangalore and adjudged by the Government of Kerala to recieve the R.Shankar Award for the best special grade (Private) college in the state of Kerala for two years. The college won the Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Literacy Award in 2004 for the meritorious service rendered by the institution to the backward minority community. The college has been identified as a college with Potential for Excellence (CPE) by the University Grants Commision since 2004. The college was also recognised as a Minority Educational Institution by the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions and Department of Science and Technology (DST). The Government of India has granted support to the college under its FIST Programme. With 20 U.G Programmes, 15 P.G Programmes and 8 Research Centres, the college has been conferred Autonomous Status in the Year 2015.
