Digital Smile Design (DSD) was developed by Dr. Christian Coachman. Dr. Coachman is both a dentist and certified dental technician, a leading expert in clinical as well as laboratory fields of dentistry. DSD is based on the analysis of the patient’s facial and dental proportions, utilising a

series of high quality digital photographs and videos to understand the relationship between teeth, gums, lips, smile with the facial features in motion and with emotion. Digital drawings are easily made on these pictures. A digital ruler enables precise communication with the dental technician when designing the smile. This also results in a clear, attractive and understandable treatment presentation for patients.

In our current era of dentistry, patients often seek more than just a mouth of biologically sound teeth. DSD bridges the gap between traditional dental health provision and esthetic solutions, by providing a systematic framework to design and create harmonised dental and facial esthetics which also complement each patient’s personality.

Importantly, DSD also involves the patient as a co-designer of their own smile, with interaction between clinician and patient greatly improved by the photos and videos taken across the treatment process.

Upon completing this course, clinicians will be certified as DSD dentists, and be well-equipped to approach future cases with the DSD protocol, including having access to the DSD planning centre.

Dr Yassmin graduated from Sydney University in 1993. Since then, his subsequent accreditation and training hascome from numerous institutions and world class clinicians. He completed the Implantology program at UCLA in 2010 and obtained his Masters in Dental Aesthetics from the prestigious King’s College London in 2014. There, he learnt the use of the most up-to-date cosmetic dental techniques to create more than just a traditional smile makeover. Harmony with the facial structure is emphasized, creating not only a beautiful smile, but also smoothing out the wrinkles and folds of the face to achieve a more youthful appearance.

Dr. Yassmin is an accomplished spokesperson on a number of dental health issues, often called upon to speak at various functions and as a spokesperson on a number of media outlets. Having always been dedicated to a high level of aesthetic dentistry, it was a clear synergy when he first studied digital smile design. Not only did he incorporate this in his daily practice but also furthered his passion by becoming a speaker and official instructor for DSD, to share his expertise with other dentists.

Carla was born in 1975, in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. She is a dental technician expert in DSD, provisionals and Lumineers. Carla specializes in customizing smiles

by attending patients’ appointments alongside dentists.

In 1994 she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she lived and made jewelry till 2003. Subsequently, she graduated from “Senac Sao Paulo –

Tiradentes” in 2007, where she took the dental technicians course, and was awarded the “Best Student Prize”.

She is the first technician in the world to become a DSD Instructor

Today, she wears many hats, from being a DoooX Advisory Team Member, DSD magazine reviewer, DSD

course coordinator in São Paulo, speaker at the DSD residency alongside Dr Christian Coachman, to teaching in the most prestigious dental technician schools (SENAC/APDESP) in São Paulo.

She also gives lectures internationally on DSD and is a key opinion leader in the field.

Dr Krishnan is internationally renowned as a pioneer in cosmetic tooth alignment, in which he pioneered revolutionary new concepts. He qualified from Dundee University, Scotland in 1993 and now lives and practices in Singapore. Dr Krishnan has published in many journals and authored the first book on cosmetic tooth alignment which is now into its second edition. He is on the board of the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry, the editorial board of Aesthetic Dentistry Today and Orthodontic Practice magazine. He strongly advocates Cosmetic Tooth Alignment as the missing piece in minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry. It is his belief that with occlusion-friendly appliances aimed at the general practitioner, pre-alignment of teeth before destructive enamel preparation should be the norm in all smile design cases.
